“Perfect little place and it would be a five star review, I came to get some peace and also do some work in the evenings.”

The internet connection was totally unusable though, took minutes to load a very basic web page. I'm aware this could just be the area, but I've stayed in rural homes before where it was at least usable! Couldn't really do any of the tasks I'd hoped to do as internet couldn't cut it. If you want a getaway which includes an escape from connectivity, this is the one for you! A beautiful cottage though and gorgeous surroundings.

The property

This spacious Grade II listed Lakeland barn is a real find in the breathtaking Lyth Valley. The interior is an eclectic blend of handcrafted rustic features and contemporary furnishings, while the dramatic vaulted beams of the original building create an exceptional space for holiday living. Spread out and relax in the lounge and dine together at the quirky woodcraft table. There's loads of breathing space here. Don't forget your camera to capture the overwhelming views of the surrounding Lyth Valley - this is a true picture postcard setting with wonderful walks in every direction. Explore the surrounding lanes and byways, drop in at the plethora of traditional local pubs, or take day-trips to nearby Bowness, Lake Windermere and beyond. == Accommodation in detail Private parking spaces for 2 cars. Enter through hall then upstairs to the open plan kitchen, living room and dining room with locally commissioned wrought ironwork fittings and wooden furniture set in lovely A-frame oak beams. Well-equipped kitchen with electric oven, induction hob and dishwasher. The bedroom is on the ground floor. Lovely separate bathroom with more rustic wood panelling and shower over bath. Small garden area with seating outside. Location This lovely self-catering cottage is located near the Lyth Valley village of Underbarrow. Underbarrow is a sleepy and attractive village, offering a peaceful contrast to the busier Lakeland towns and villages. The Lyth Valley is a gorgeous rural area, scattered with traditional Lake District country cottages and farms. Wonderful traditional pubs with good food and great ales abound, including the Punchbowl at nearby Crosthwaite. The surrounding Lyth valley is well-known for its Damson harvests, and is decked in brightly coloured Damson blossom in spring. Blissful! Great Walks start from your doorstep. You can choose from gentle strolls along winding paths and lanes to dramatic walks on Scout Scar and Whitbarrow Scar. The views across the Lakes and neighbouring counties from these bracing but manageable walks are stunning. Underbarrow lies between Kendal and Bowness, and is very easily accessible from the M6. The popular tourist town of Bowness and the shores of Lake Windermere are only a short drive away. Bowness has a range of sophisticated shops, useful supermarkets and delis, plus a range of family attractions including those on the lake itself. For evening entertainment, you'll find the Royalty Cinema, Old Laundry Theatre, pubs and good restaurants.

About the location

CROSTHWAITE

Bowness-on-Windermere 5 miles; Kendal 6 miles.

Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.
