Bowness village is a popular Lake District holiday destination, on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere. It's a delightful place to spend a family holiday in the Lake District, and a convenient base if you would prefer not to use your car during your stay. You'll find contemporary shops, supermarkets, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs, all within walking distance. Bowness also has the Royalty Cinema, and the Old Laundry Theatre - perfect rainy day entertainment! Kids will love the World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness.
The shores of Lake Windermere are the real attraction in Bowness. Just a few steps from the village high street, you'll find hire boats in Bowness Bay and lake cruises on Lake Windermere. The famous Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside - a great way to explore these must-see locations without having to use your car. A car-ferry also crosses the lake from Bowness, providing your route to picturesque Hawkshead on the western side of Lake Windermere. Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to Crook and the Lyth Valley. Even if golf isn't your thing, we recommend a trip that way to explore the wealth of renowned Lake District country pubs.
