“We had a lovely stay in Wykefield.”

There is a lot of space for all the family. We took our 2 youngest sons, their partners and two grandchildren. Our 15 month old grandson absolutely loved having all that space to explore, he was so happy

The property

This gold star property is tucked away, approaching the cobbled courtyard entrance to Wykefield, the promise of what is to come will incite the prickle of goosebumps in even the most well-travelled guest. Surrender to the drama and majesty of this idyllic residence with a luxury self-catering break within the picturesque hamlet of Near Sawrey. It is less than a 5-minute stroll from Beatrix Potter's farmhouse, Hill Top, and the cosy pub, The Tower Bank Arms. The famous author holidayed twice at the house which Wykefield is part of and it was here that she made her final edits to her first little book, Peter Rabbit. Once you have fallen for this sympathetically combined Victorian and contemporary Lakeland abode, gazed out at the infinite views of breath-taking countryside and glimpses of lake, you'll find it hard to think you would rather be anywhere else in the world. Let this 'magical corner' of the Lake District lure you under its spell... This semi-detached Victorian residence has been lovingly developed by the current owners to create the highest standard of accommodation in a beautiful location and taking full advantage of the views across the valley. With four beautiful bedrooms, three luxury bathrooms, a sophisticated, welcoming lounge, a cosy snug and a stunning, south facing triple aspect social kitchen diner Wykefield offers a special place for friends and family to relax, socialize and enjoy the best the Lake District has to offer. == Accommodation in detail From the courtyard the front door opens to a splendid Victorian hallway that leads to the elegant and beautifully furnished lounge with floor to ceiling windows. The luxurious sofas are arranged so guests can not only enjoy the beautiful views but also in an evening to relax in front of the open fire and large screen TV. The large, triple aspect, kitchen diner is spacious and bright, with high ceilings and south facing bi-fold doors overlooking the garden to the glorious Lakeland countryside and Esthwaite Water beyond. Relax and enjoy the views whatever the weather by stepping out onto the terraces or back inside relaxing with a drink on the sofa. The large family dining table is the ideal place to socialise over dinner with family and friends and the high quality kitchen, with range cooker, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher is beautifully finished with stone worktops and a stunning island unit incorporating a breakfast bar. The hallway also opens to a welcoming clubroom style snug with log burning stove and large screen TV, sofa and high back arm chairs. Also on the ground floor there is a boot room with plenty of space for outdoor gear and includes a utility area with washer drier and beyond a downstairs WC. The stairs sweep up to the first floor where there are four high quality and well-furnished bedrooms, all beautifully decorated and each in a different style. Choose from two king sized bedrooms both with views over the garden and luxury ensuite shower rooms with basin and WC. The third bedroom can be made up as either a superking bed or twin beds (please specify when booking) and again offers lovely views. The final bedroom is a delightful twin room with views to the hills. The bedrooms are complemented with a superb family bathroom with walk in shower, a feature Victorian bath, basin and WC. Returning outside, the mature gardens frame the pastoral views across the valley with glimpses of Esthwaite Water and toward Grizedale Forest. From the patio a lawned garden leads down to the ha-ha that forms the link between the garden and the meadows and all this is beautifully framed by mature trees and shrubs, a spectacular copper beech tree and an amazing monkey puzzle tree. To the front of the property there is private parking for four cars. The owners of the property respectfully advise that extra care may be needed if there are small children in your party as there are significant drops within the grounds and the terrace is unfenced. Location Nestled on the edge of the hamlet of Near Sawrey, this self-catering Lake District country house is perfectly located for exploring the best of the Lakes. Standing between Hawkshead village and the western shores of Lake Windermere, the charming property provides easy access to both Hawkshead and Ambleside. Also, the supermarket, shops, restaurants and attractions of Bowness are easily accessible via the car ferry across the lake. Outdoor lovers will relish the chance to explore the walking routes that criss-cross the area. Near Sawrey will also entice Beatrix Potter fans who will be able to vist Miss Potter's former home at Hill Top which is now owned by the National Trust and open to the public. Hill Top is located just behind the Tower Bank Arms country pub, which featured in Beatrix Potter's 'Tales of Jemima Puddleduck'. Nearby Esthwaite Water is known as one of England's finest trout fishing lakes, also offering pike fishing, coarse fishing and roach fishing for all ages at Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery. Follow the B5285 to the west to arrive in Coniston, with its spectacular scenery and fine walking, including up the famous Coniston Old Man. Nearby Grizedale Forest is another popular spot for family fun, offering scenic wanders, cycle tracks, 'Go Ape' adventure attraction and sculpture trails.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
