Blissful Locations

If you’re looking to embrace the informalities of country life, a remote location like Troutbeck may appeal. You can walk from of our secluded Troutbeck Cottages up onto Wansfell, along to the village shop, tearoom or popular village pub, the Mortal Man Inn. Take to horseback to explore the historic valley at a trot or experience a bygone era at the National trust owned 17th Century farmhouse, Townend.

Put your ‘out of office’ on and make your home a snug cottage for two in the majestic Langdale Valley. Browse our remote Langdale Cottages and find yourself perched on a fell side, where you can stock up in Ambleside up on the way and not venture further than the sublime surrounding scenery on your doorstep for the rest of your holiday.

Ditch the car and playing ‘taxi’ for the week and opt for a family friendly cottage, with conveniences like relaxed restaurants, shop, cinema and theatres a stroll away. Have a look at our rural escapes in Ambleside and Keswick for secluded properties with local conveniences nearby.

If after a few days hiding away some members of your party want to dress up for an impromptu evening of cocktails or a spot of theatre, then the hotpots of Keswick, Ambleside and Bowness have super day and evening entertainment and have superb local transport links so can be enjoyed from one of our rural cottages.

Whilst it’s nice to escape the 24-hour living of urban life, we don’t want you to miss home from home conveniences when enjoying one of our secluded Lake District cottages. Fear not, you don’t need to be concerned about being too cut off. Most of our properties have WiFi so you can still share holiday snaps and plan trips out. We have gold award cottages with state-of-the-art entertainment systems, including Sky and Freeview, surround sound, HD and curved wall-mounted screens, plus additional smart TVs in bedroom and bathroom suites. Don’t forget the excellent service that Lakelovers are proud of includes free towels, welcome packs as well as inclusive leisure facility passes for some properties, for when you really want some pampering ‘me time’.

The woodlands, rivers and mountains of our rural escapes in the Lake District are also ideal retreats for pooch too and we remind you that with Lakelovers’ cottages that welcome pets, dog stay free!

Out and About on a Rural Escape in the Lakes

If you’re worried about keeping guests occupied when booking from our more isolated holiday cottages, but you’re keen to stay away from the crowds, here are some of the less crowded places to visit in the Lake District so you get the best of both worlds.

Holehird Gardens is close to Brockhole Visitor Centre, which is right on the shore of Lake Windermere and attracts the crowds from the popular Lake Windermere Steamers. This makes nearby Holehird, an extraordinary horticultural paradise, a great place to escape whilst still enjoying the wonder of Lake Windermere. The views from Holehird onto Windermere are all the better as they feel private.

When visiting a popular place like the National Trust’s Wray Castle, also on Windermere, it is worth getting behind the scenes and booking onto the tour where you can hear untold stories that the throng of daily visitor’s miss. A garden tour at Beatrix Potter’s house, Hill Top near Hawkshead, is also an alternative and quiet way to take in this national treasure.

Rather than Windermere or Ullswater Steamers, enjoy the Lake District’s famous clear waters from the smaller Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston, which is much quieter.

In the north Lakes, enjoy Bassenthwaite rather than the busier Derwentwater and Ullswater. On Bassenthwaite, you can visit a live Osprey’s watch, let off some steam at Whinlatter Forest’s GoApe or mountain bike trails, take in an up-close animal encounters at the Lake District Wildlife Park and eat at the upmarket Lakes Distillery.

Whilst a walk around Grasmere and Rydal water is a delight, why not head away from this Wordsworth trail towards the less busy 2-hour walk around Buttermere with enchanting views of Crummock Water and Loweswater.

For traditional county pub lunches enjoy a drive or bike ride in the quiet country lanes of the Lyth Valley, outside of bustling Windermere and Bowness. Our Lyth Valley Cottages are set in a working pastoral landscape dotted with 17th century farms. You’ll just as easily share a pint in one of the several upmarket village pubs with a local famer as you will with other holidaymakers.

The Lake District is a very seasonal holiday destination, with the hot spots of Windermere and Ambleside upbeat and vibrant over the summer months. With a little planning, you can enjoy these superb towns but without the crowds. Windermere bonfire is a well-organised community event and in November the beautiful boutiques of Bowness turn their attention to Christmas and so off-season can be a great time to visit the Lake District’s hot spots.

For your walking fix, avoid the pull of Scafell, Helvellyn or the Old Man of Coniston and head to the eastern fells. Haweswater is the perfect mix of beauty, views and has the bonus of being secluded. There’s an abundance of wildlife, making this spot a buzz of natural life, rather than chattering walkers.

Lakelovers remote holiday cottages in the Lake District deliver on peace and quiet and the rejuvenating quality of slowing down to the Lake District’s rhythm of tricking waterfalls and zig-zagging fell paths is like no other.

Whether your rural escape is a secret, surprise or simply a well-deserved break, we look forward to quietly welcoming you to a personalised and intimate escape to the Lake District.
