The gentle 9km walk around the petite waters of Grasmere and Rydal takes in two of Wordsworth’s homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount. As well as some of the famous Coffin Route and views of Loughrigg Fell.

The sweet and spicy smell of world-famous Grasmere Gingerbread has filled the air in Grasmere for over 150 years. It hints at the important spice trade heritage that once thrived in the Lake District.

During your short break in Grasmere, your taste buds can take a break from rushed family dinners and lunches grabbed whilst on the run, with lots of superb eateries within the village. Book a couple of hours at the Jumble Room and remind yourselves of the pleasure of a leisurely meal enjoyed in a warm and welcoming surrounding.

There’s culture at every corner in Grasmere, and so take your pick of visiting Dove Cottage, Allan Bank, St Oswald’s Church, the Wordsworth Museum. A walk along the River Rothay, through the heart of Grasmere village, is a delightful way to take in the sights, sounds and smells of this charming Lake District village set in the most beautiful landscape.

Helm Crag with its famous ‘Lion and the Lamb’ rock formations is a less than 2 hour walk straight from Grasmere village. Leave the picturesque Grasmere valley and header over the Langdale Pikes to enter the drama of the Langdale Valley and picturesque Elterwater. And for those looking for some hill bagging from your short break, take on Helvellyn from Thirlmere, avoiding the busier route of Striding Edge.

Once down from the fell tops, there are some excellent pubs in Grasmere for a well-deserved refreshment. Try Tweedies Bar or Faeryland Tearoom, which is a truly delightful place on Grasmere water.
