The whisperings of the Christmas break are getting a little more excitable as we get closer to the holidays. And for us here at Lakelovers we know that a Christmas holiday is different for each and every one of our guests, so as the countdown starts, we look at five Christmas styles …whatever your style, we have a Christmas break for you here in the Lakes.

Keep reading for further inspiration on how you can spend Christmas and New Year in the Lake District…

Christmas and New Year Ideas

1. Festive Family Gathering

The goose is getting fat and if for you, Christmas is all about the bringing together of family and friends, you’re in good company and what better place than the Lake District for a luxury location. Book a large cottage and have your nearest and dearest all under one roof.

Here you can cook together, eat, drink and be merry. And, of course, you can take to the outdoors to walk off all that festive food or simply settle down in front of an open fire to play games and talk turkey. Added value comes in the shape of a stress-free Christmas as everyone can lend a helping hand to ensure a good time is had by all. 2. Modern and Minimalist

If you’re thinking of a quieter Christmas then a modern and minimalist approach, where traditions fine-tuned for contemporary living, may be the way to go. Here the emphasis is on a paired-back style and quality as opposed to an overindulgent and fussy Christmas. So, it’s out with the Douglas Fir and lots of colour and in with a more elegant contemporary tree. Out with sacs of stocking fillers and in with more mindful, understated gifts, such as experiences like a Lake District predator experience, or other unique Lake District things to doCalm, quiet and relaxed.

3. Romantic Noel

There may be a nip of frost in the air at Christmas time, but there’s also romance so get the most from your Christmas break by booking a cosy cottage for two. From here you can indulge in all things romantic like a candlelit dinner at a fine dining restaurant, followed by a visit to a Christmas market en route back to the cottage for a festive film in front of the fire.

Plenty of our Christmas cottages in the Lake District have entertainment packages like Sky Movies, that are perfect for home movie nights. A cheeseboard and some port and hopefully snow-capped fields, and you’re whisked away to a scene from the Holiday. Read our guide our blog on a  Weekend for Two in the Lake District for some romantic Christmas gift ideas.  Warm, intimate and intoxicating.

4. Homemade Yuletide

This is about spending some time in the lead up to Christmas making gifts for family, printing your own cards and wrapping paper. Sustainable style is what a homemade yuletide is all about; stay in a luxurious lodge or Christmas log cabin, forage for food and make the most of what the countryside has to offer. Decorate your Christmas tree with fir cone baubles and make holly wreaths. As Jack Frost nips outside, hibernate within the warmth of the kitchen making homemade cranberry-flavoured sausage rolls and sugar-dusted mince-pies. Make gifts that give all year long, such as 12-months of ‘dates’ like a trip to a Lake District stargazing tour.

5. Winter Spa

Get active and have a healthy Christmas. Whether it’s walking, cycling or running, the Lake District provides the perfect backdrop for a rejuvenating winter spa break. Many of our cottages come with access to spa facilities at a range of establishments and so after a little exercise, you can relax, detox and replenish in style. Alternatively, be well and prepared for 2020 by spending New Year with us. New Year is all about celebrating and what better way than in a large cottage in the tranquil Lake District lake and mountain setting. So that you can concentrate on relaxing, why not as us to arrange a private chef to take care of all your entertaining needs. We can also arrange in-house health and beauty treatments with our mobile spa partner Glo-Pamper, like massages and facials, where you don’t even have to leave your holiday home to feel taken care of. Health, hot tubs and happiness.
