It has been confirmed that the new series of the popular television programme Safe House will be filmed in the Lake District.
The show, which stars Christopher Eccleston and Marsha Thomason, is an edgy thriller that sees a married couple turn their remote guest house in the Lake District into a police safe house.
As a result of the huge success of the first series, ITV has commissioned the second series to be filmed once again in the Lake District.
Those staying in nearby Ambleside holiday cottages in the coming months could see filming being done in the area. Like the first series, the second series will be filmed in the beautiful setting of Coniston which won high acclaim from some TV experts.
In the first series the four-part thriller was predominantly filmed in Coniston and around Coniston Water, taking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Other Cumbrian locations that were used in the first series were Honister Slate Mine, Lingholm Estate and a National Trust property near Derwentwater.
The second series of Safe House will once again be a four-part story that sees Robert (Christopher Eccleston) and wife Katy (Marsha Thomason) offer their remote guest house as a sanctuary to people in need of protection.
Speaking to ITV.com, Steve November, ITVs Director of Drama, said, We had a tremendous reaction from the audience to Safe House. From the gripping story and compelling performances, we were delighted with every aspect of the production.
With Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone writing the scripts and Jill and Paula producing we know the new series will be in safe hands.
