Gilcrux is a small farming village in west Cumbria which dates back to Norman times. The church built in 1199 was renovated in the 13th century. The village has a pub, trout farm / fishery a village green and children’s playground. The nearby towns of Cockermouth, with it’s connection to William Wordsworth has plenty of local independent shops, supermarkets and restaurants, and Maryport on the coast has an aquarium on the harbourside and links to The Titanic and The White Star Line. The Solway Coast with it’s long sandy beaches has links to Viking and Roman Britain with many interesting places to discover and is an area of protected outstanding natural beauty.
