Thimble Hill
Description
Thimble Hill is a delightful cottage in the small village of Wreay just south of Carlisle, enjoying a scenic rural setting with off-road parking and far-reaching views over countryside and woodland. It’s the kind of place that encourages everyone to slow down, whether you’re stepping straight into the wraparound garden for fresh air and patio moments, or settling in with a book while the landscape does its quiet magic beyond the windows.
Inside, there’s a strong sense of space, making it well suited to family breaks and get-togethers with friends. The sitting room feels made for together-time, especially when the woodburning stove is glowing and the evening turns into a relaxed round of conversation and board games on the Smart TV. When the group wants options, the snug offers a second place to unwind, with patio doors that open the house out to the garden and let the outdoors become part of the day.
The kitchen/diner is set up for proper holiday cooking, anchored by an electric AGA oven and hob and supported by the essentials for self-catering. Gather at the dining table for unhurried breakfasts, picnic planning, and big shared suppers, then drift back outside if the weather calls for meals in the open air while the garden becomes a playground for children and a social hub for adults.
Sleeping arrangements are thoughtfully spread across four double bedrooms, including a ground-floor zip/link room that can be made into a twin on request. Upstairs, the main bedroom stands out with its TV, window seat looking out over the countryside, and en-suite featuring a roll-top bath, ideal for switching off after a busy day. A separate bathroom includes another roll-top bath and a walk-in shower, plus there’s a cloakroom for added ease. From the door, wander into Wreay to sample the village pub, then head into Carlisle for its wealth of amenities, a day at the racecourse, or a memorable journey on the Settle–Carlisle railway. Close by is The Miller's Way walking route, from where you can walk alongside the river to Wreay Woods. Wreay village features a medieval church and conveniently located close to the M6, a short drive from Carlisle Racecourse and 40 minutes from the Lake District, and with the beautiful Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall easily reached, there is much to explore. The vibrant city of Carlisle has the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, while younger visitors will be delighted with Walby Farm Park. For a memorable stay, choose Thimble Hill.

What a beautiful house and fabulous location!
From the stunning house itself to the super cute cows in the field. This house was magical. Not far from the idyllic Lake District and only a short drive to Scotland. We loved every second. The house was fabulous, a perfect place to rest and relax after a busy day on the paddleboards. Cant wait to return!
