Description
Throstlegarth is a well-equipped, pet-friendly house in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, enjoying an elevated setting with far-reaching views across the bay towards Grange-over-Sands, making it a great choice for families and groups of friends looking to spend time within reach of both the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Arrive and park on the private driveway before stepping out to take in the surroundings, where the front garden opens out with a lawn and seating, offering a lovely spot to pause and admire the wide countryside outlook.
Make your way to the entrance and step inside to start your stay, heading into the bright sitting room where large windows draw in plenty of natural light and frame views of the garden and nearby hills, inviting you to relax on the sofa, switch on the Smart TV, and enjoy the warmth from the gas fire.
Nearby, the snug provides a quieter space, where you can settle back with a book or enjoy a selection of games for an easygoing evening.
Continue through to the dining room, where a woodburning stove sits within a brick fireplace, creating an inviting place to gather for meals, before opening the doors to let in fresh air and move easily out into the garden.
The kitchen follows, where underfloor heating adds comfort while you prepare meals using the gas hob and electric oven, with a dishwasher and microwave helping with the routine, and the fridge and freezer storing everything you need.
The ground floor also features a shower room, complete with underfloor heating, offering a handy space to freshen up after a day out, along with a washing machine for keeping on top of outdoor gear.
Head upstairs via the carpeted staircase, where a stairgate provides added reassurance, and discover the bedrooms, each enjoying their own outlook, with the king-size room looking out towards Grange-over-Sands, the double capturing impressive countryside views, one single overlooking a nearby footpath and tower, and the second single offering further rural views along with useful storage.
The bathroom on this floor includes a bath with a shower over and basin, while a separate WC adds extra convenience for the group.
Step back outside to enjoy the front and rear seating areas, including a terrace accessed from the dining room that is ideal for dining outdoors or simply taking in the setting, while steps with handrails lead through the garden and down towards a private footpath for further exploration.
A shop and pub can be reached with a short walk, and a nearby river offers an easy option for time outdoors.
Venture into the Lake District National Park and spend time around Windermere, enjoying boat trips on the water, walking scenic lakeside paths, and exploring charming towns filled with independent cafés and shops, or head to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to take in limestone landscapes, follow routes through wide valleys lined with dry stone walls, and visit traditional market towns.
Closer to home, Arnside and Silverdale provide rewarding days out, where you can take in views from Arnside Knott, spot wildlife in local nature reserves, and follow coastal trails along the shoreline.
With stunning countryside views, walks from the doorstep, and both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales within easy reach, Throstlegarth is a great base for exploring Cumbria.

Perfect Score Award This property is highly rated by our customers!
The property was immaculate, it catered for every eventuality.
Throws were left out t cover furniture, although we had brought our own because we have 2 dogs. Every room had a waste bin. All rooms comfy and warm. The gardens were enclosed and great for our dogs. Owners were on hand in case of any problem and answered text messages promptly. Had a great and comfortable stay, would definitely like to return.
We had a wonderful stay at Throstlegarth and would happily return.
The house was exceptionally clean, comfortable and exactly as described. All the facilities were perfect for us, and the welcome gifts of Prosecco, nuts, scones, jam and cookies were very much appreciated. We were left to enjoy the property in peace, although I also had a lovely chat with Andrew, the owner, one morning. The secure garden was perfect for our dogs, with comfortable furniture where we could sit in the late-afternoon and evening sunshine, looking towards the hills. The views from the front master bedroom are even better. The location is excellent. Milnthorpe’s Booths supermarket, two pubs, Indian restaurant and several takeaways are only about three minutes away by car. The town is a ten-minute walk, although the route follows a busy road, so we preferred to drive. The house is well set back and elevated behind bushes, so we didn’t find the road noise particularly troublesome, although guests accustomed to somewhere very quiet may notice it more. We especially loved driving ten minutes to Arnside each evening to walk the dogs on the beach, watch the sunset and enjoy a pint at The Albion. Visitors should, of course, take the warnings about Arnside’s fast tides and quicksand seriously. Throstlegarth is also a superb base for exploring, with Windermere and the Lake District in one direction and the Yorkshire Dales in the other. We had fabulous days out in both. Another highlight was parking at Arnside and taking the train along the beautiful coastal railway to Ulverston, stopping at Grange-over-Sands on our return. The layout would be particularly good for a young family, with two single bedrooms, a small double and a lovely king-size master bedroom. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and an easy 5/5 from us.
We recently spent a week at Throstlegarth and couldn’t recommend it enough.
Very clean, comfortable and has everything you could possibly need for a week home from home. We spent many days and evenings in the beautiful garden and the views from the master bedroom are beautiful. If you choose to stay here make sure you go across the road and up into the field to watch the spectacular sunset! All in all we highly recommend Throstlegarth and it’s a brilliant base to explore The Lakes and surrounding areas.
