Description
School Cottage is a charming and comfortable two-bedroom cottage built from Lakeland stone. It is set in a peaceful elevated position in Troutbeck Bridge, with lovely westerly views towards Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Pikes.
Formed from the old Victorian Sunday School, it is brimming with character. An oversized front door awaits you up a few steps from the front garden, leading to a generous entrance hall with plenty of space to hang your coats and boots.
The lounge features distinctive floor-to-ceiling, west-facing windows, which help to make this room so bright and cheerful and offer breathtaking views of the mountains.
The modern fitted kitchen has everything you need to prepare a bite to eat and enjoy it inside or outside in the pretty patio garden while you plan your next day’s adventures. And when the sun drops below the mountains you can light a fire and relax in front of the wood burning stove in the original stone fireplace.
Upstairs, the two bedrooms both feature beamed ceilings and attractive rooflines. The front double room has a deeply set feature window with even more spectacular mountain views, as well as an en-suite WC and basin. The rear bedroom is a comfortable twin with a velux window and a cosy cottage feel.
The generous sized bathroom includes a relaxing bath as well as a large walk-in corner shower cubicle.
School Cottage is ideally situated for a relaxing break, being just a short stroll to a well-stocked shop and a pub, and perfectly placed between Windermere and Ambleside for easy access to these two vibrant towns.
Walkers can quickly connect from the doorstep to any of the stunning trails in the area. Follow in Alfred Wainwright’s tracks by taking the easy but glorious route over Orrest Head to Windermere, keener walkers can head up through Troutbeck over Wansfell Pike and down into Ambleside.
There is private parking for two cars at the front of the cottage, but if you want to explore further without having to drive there is a nearby bus stop with regular services to both Windermere and Ambleside, with routes to Grasmere, the Langdale Valley, Coniston and even Ullswater and Keswick.

What guests are saying
One of the best equipped and comfortable cottages we've ever stayed in.
Amazing views was the icing on the cake.
This is our fourth consecutive year staying at School Cottage.
Right from the first time when we didn't know what to expect to this year the Cottage has always been extremely clean, has everything in it you need and more to make your holiday accommodation brilliant. The area is absolutely gorgeous and everyone who stays there remarks on the fantastic view from the bedroom window. It is in easy reach of Ambleside, Grasmere, Kendal, Keswick to name but a few also there are plenty of walks in the area. I would definitely recommend this Cottage for anyone of any age.
Lovely house with amazing views in a convenient position.
Everything we needed for a great family holiday.
