Gable End

This was a return visit to Gable End and we enjoyed the cottage very much.

A home from home and it was lovely and cool in the recent heatwave. We were very comfortable apart from the three green safety lights upstairs which were so bright it was difficult to sleep.

Great cottage ,clean and tidy, little extra like dishwasher tablets ,and secure parking behind gates hopefully will book next year

A great week away, in a great property, in an ideal location.

Hi, we had a lovely stay with just a few glitches.

We couldn't find the washing machine instructions and couldn't get the dry cycle to work. As weather was good we could use the drying rack. The extract fan in the ensuite is not working. There is a nail sticking up under the front bedroom carpet which is quite painful to stand on. There is a guy with a Highways truck who parks close to the parking area making it very difficult to get up the slope. Hope that feedback is help ful

Excellent position - in walking distance from two good pubs and a regular bus service.

We understand that the night spotlight in the bedroom was there for safety reasons but it was too bright for a good night's sleep. Otherwise the cottage was perfect for us.

This property is very nice but is 2.

Great cottage!

I will be back. It is very cosy with excellent facilities for a comfortable stay. I left the car and walked from the door almost every day.

Lovely cottage in a lovely village.

We spent 5 days there walking the nearby fells. The cottage was very well equipped, very well maintained and nice and warm and cozy. We were there during a very cold spell and it was lovely to come back to a nice warm cottage and sit in front of the fire each evening. The sofas and bed were super comfy. We had a minor issue with the smoke alarm going off and it was dealt with by the property maintenance chap really quickly and efficiently. I honestly cannot fault this place and I would definitely go back.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at Gable End and we will return again.

Great location, off street private parking and easy access to the fells from the front door.

Lovely, quiet place to stay.

Ideal for a couple or family of four. All you need, well kitted out. Comfy beds. Great parking 20yrds away, bus stop a few minutes walk and the Royal Oak 2 mins walk which has the best pie! Would definitely stay again!

We've stayed in Gable End a few times now and have always really enjoyed it.

The accommodation is perfect for us, just the right size and has everything we need. There's plenty of space in the kitchen/diner and the lounge is comfortable. The main bedroom is great with a very comfortable bed, it was very cold as the radiator doesn't work but we just added an extra blanket. The second bedroom would be better with just a single bed, as its difficult to sleep in a bunk bed as an adult, but appreciate this is more designed for children. It's a lovely quiet location with access to great walking in the fells. And having nearby private parking is an absolute bonus in this area. It's also fantastic for an easy walk into Keswick. We'll definitely stay again.

I am very grateful was able to get into the accommodation an hour early.

My only complaint was when I tried to phone the management to check how to use the dryer, I left a couple of messages but didn’t get a reply.

+ very cosy with all the creatures comforts catered for - The overwhelming sense of jeopardy that greets you when trying to use the oven that has no clear markings on the dials, and no instruction manual : will I burn the house down , or will I undercook it and give myself food poisoning!

Another really nice week at Gable End.

Braithwaite is a really pretty village to stay away from the hustle and bustle of town. We were very comfortable and cosy. Few cobwebs in the bedroom and we couldn't work out how to use the grill but otherwise everything was great. Will be booking again.

A well appointed clean cottage with all the amenities we required.

It is very close to the local pub, shop, café and hotels and is well served by public transport (bus) which we used to access or return from several walks. Keswick is walkable if you are feeling energetic. The dedicated parking spot was very useful (we didn't use the car all week) as was the garden area. It is ideally situated for accessing the numerous local walks. Would recommend a trip on the 77 bus through the Winlatter and Honnister passes, quite a journey. Would love to stay here again.

A lovely, cosy cottage in the heart of Braithwaite.

We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including the private parking space. The 'secret' garden was lovely although we didn't get chance to sit there, it would be lovely in warmer weather. Would definitely rebook.

Very comfortable house with very good cooking facilities.

Parking a real bonus and little garden a perfect oasis after a long walk on the surrounding hills. As it was a cold snap during our visit the fire was a great bonus when the heating wasn't required for the whole house. Only issue we had was bin day. The information said early Wednesday, but they arrived very early Tuesday, which we then missed. Can only imagine the people had the same issue the previous week as we arrived to an almost full bin. Maybe an update for this required? but this didn't detract from the enjoyment of the property. Great house, great holiday

Our Family of 4 had an amazing time at Gable End!

Facilities all as advertised, clean, tidy and a perfect base for the North of the lake district. Once found (follow instructions on the wall in the kitchen) the secure car and bike storage was very handy. A must try are the homemade cakes from the village shop/tea room. Local pubs and restaurants within 5 min walking distance very handy. And we especially enjoyed being able to walk to Cat Bells from the door. We had 1 issue spoke to the housekeeper who gave us advice and was very helpful. Thankyou again for a wonderful stay and would happily stay at Gable End in the future.

Thoroughly loved my few days back in Cumbria and can’t wait to come back.

This is the third time we have stayed in the cottage.

It is comfortable and always presented well. We love the position in Braithwaite village close to both hotels and ideal for walking out onto the fells leaving the car secure in the private parking area. The village has good bus services to Keswick and the villages of Borrowdale and Buttermere. We will definitely be back again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Gable End - a clean, warm and comfortable cottage.

Great walks from the door, 2 pubs and Jasper's coffee shop. Also on the bus route so convenient for public transport. Would strongly suggest that the owners provide more dishwasher tablets (not a sufficient supply for a week), washing tablets (none provided) and bin bags (none provided). This would help visitors keep the cottage clean and tidy. Alternatively advise visitors that they will need to provide their own.

Our stay at Gable End was excellent, lots of walks from the door and a very useful village shop two minutes away as well as two very good pubs.

The cottage is very comfortable and clean with a well equipped kitchen (maybe add a couple of pint glasses though) and plenty of space. The gas fire doesn't work but the central heating is all you need really, it would be more for effect. No problem to find the parking space but we only used the car once during the week anyway due to the location and access to many different fells. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Lovely property in a great location.

Brilliant runs and walks from the cottage plus only a few minutes drive from Skiddaw, Blencathra etc. Had everything we needed for our stay. We couldn't get the gas fire to light but it wasn't really needed so didn't worry us. Definitely a place we'd come back to.

A clean and well functioning house.

We had no problems throughout the stay. Nice main bedroom, with a pleasant green colour scheme. We couldn't work out how to use the tv.

Loved the bunk beds, comfy sofas and room to play. Would recommend.

Braithwaite is a lovely village and the cottage has a central location, handy for shop, pubs, coffee shop and village walks.

The cottage was well equipped and generously provisioned with toilet rolls, soap, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. It was clean and generally comfortable. The parking space was very useful although access to it was a little awkward. The garden area was nice, although we don’t think its distance from the cottage was made clear in the description. There were maintenance issues. The bathroom door handle jammed (luckily not locking anyone in). The owner fixed this but only after we contacted Sykes. There was nothing in the cottage to tell us who or where the owner or caretaker were - the only contact details were via Sykes. There were no instructions for the cooker (the markings had rubbed off) or washer dryer and the owner ignored a query from us about the latter. Two kitchen plinths fell off, potentially dangerously. The previous occupant had noted this in the visitors’ book. We told the owner (along with the bathroom door) but no action was taken on this. Recycling facilities are a complete mess. On arrival you are greeted by an array of full and over flowing bins. Instructions on recycling bear no relationship to the facilities available and the recycling calendar is out of date. Is it now Sykes policy to have no welcome pack, even milk?

Fantastic location, brilliant clean condition and had everything we hoped for.

Private parking was a nice bonus. Could not fault it.

We have stayed at Gable End 7 times so that says something.

The only disappointment is not have a garden directly outside where you can sit and enjoy the views (it does have the remote garden area but too far to carry a cup of tea and would have split most of it by the time you get there)! The only real grumble is that the bathroom mirror light has not fixed for years!

As always, it was lovely to be back at Gable End.

Fabulous stay.

The cottage had everything we needed. Very clean and very well equipped with extra cleaning products, soap, dishwasher tablets. The kitchen was very spacious and had every thing you would need. The living room was very comfortable and the smart tv very handy. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. We would 100% come stay again. Thank you very much

This is our second visit to Gable End and it is a wonderful property.

The decor and fittings have been upgraded since our previous visit and it is extremely comfortable. The parking area and garden with shed is a real bonus for storing bikes and sitting in the sunshine (when available!) However, we would highlight the following items that need attention- Front door lock sticks and will break soon. We gave up using it and used the back door which was easy to operate. The toe-board beneath the cooker unit is loose and kept falling down - noisily! The central heating installation needs clearer instructions. Fixing the above would greatly enhance the property. Braithwaite is a super place to stay - we will return.

Great property.

Clean and comfortable for 2 may be a bit cramped for 4. Garden and parking were a short walk away but this was not an issue. Did not use the garden as we were out most of the day but had plenty of space and seating. Stayed in Braithwaite a number of times and would not hesitate to book this cottage again in the future

This cottage is absolutely beautiful, not a thing out of place.

Very very clean and so cosy. Everything what you need is in the cottage. Lovely little village too. Beautiful little garden to sit in too just across the road. Couldn’t ask for anything more, we have really enjoyed our little break and will definitely be booking to stay at this cosy cottage in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at Gable End cottage, it was the perfect size for us and our two young children.

Very well presented and maintained. The little garden was a welcome surprise and we used it every day to have ice creams from the village shop after returning from our days out. It would be worth adding pictures of the garden to the listing. We would definitely return

Could not control the heating to the radiators.

Seemed like the thermostat in the living room wasn't talking to the boiler in the bedroom.

Our sixth stay at Gable End.

The soft furnishings have been tastefully improved, however many things need attention. External doors and key safe need oil, bathroom mirror light has not worked in years, two bulbs gone in main bedroom. I fixed the left hand roller blind which has never fully rolled up to the top - it does now!

Front door mechanism needs oiled and adjusted.

The light in the cooker hood did not work. The toilet seat in the bathroom would not stay up. The shed door has dropped slightly and is difficult to lock. No hair dryer. No slotted spoon in kitchen or tongues. These are all minor points that should be addressed. We have stayed in Gable End several times and will do so again as it is a delightful little cottage in a beautiful village.

Great little cottage and perfect base for surrounding fells and exploring further.

Clean and fairly well equipped, slight niggle that all the dials have worn off on the oven and grill - can be worked out but I’m sure this would be an easy and cheap fix to make it easier for people. Only complaint would be the early checkout time, I fully appreciate why these were in place for the last couple of years but not any more more, it really does spoil the end to a good holiday having to leave before 9 am!

Lovely cottage, very cosy.

Fully equipped with everything you need. Just a couple of things- no deep bowls for things like porridge and soup and the front door was very draughty. Have you thought about a curtain for the front door? Other than that we had a lovely, comfortable stay in the cottage. Will definitely return. Thank you.

The kitchen is well equipped and it’s a cosy cottage in an absolutely fabulous location. The village shop is a great amenity to have on the doorstep too.

Wonderful little cottage in a great location.

Great walks on the doorstep and 40 minutes walk or 5 minute drive from Keswick made this an ideal place for myslef and my family. Great little shop on the doorstep and two very cosy pubs 2 to 3 minutes walk. Cottage had everything we need and more very cosy at night and always warm on return from our walks. Will definitely be booking in mear future

Brilliant location, close to Keswick which has lots of pubs and shops. Great walks from the door, really good village shop which stocks lots of essentials and local produce. Didn't want to leave, will definitely be back. Thank you.

There were several instructions regarding waste bins and collection days and these conflicted with each other.

It subject needs reviewed, simplified and rewritten.

We had a slight issue with the central heating on the first evening.

I sent an email that night and someone from Sykes Cottages called me early the next morning. They got hold of the owner and it was fixed the same day whilst we were out walking. It was very efficient and we needed no further help during our stay. We had an excellent few days in this lovely cosy cottage. Location is fabulous as there are a number of good walks from the doorstep and very close by. The village shop is excellent and it was also useful being So close to Keswick.
