“The location of the property was fantastic with just a 10 minute walk into the town centre.”

However, we were very disappointed that the property was looking very tired - many stains on the carpets, sofas smelt and hadn’t been moved to clean, cobwebs on stairs and skirtings suggesting only a surface clean had been done! Dirty and greasy pans in kitchen cupboard obviously hadn’t been checked, chipped crockery, chipped glass dishes that we were consequently unable to use. The quality of bedding and pillows provided were poor (there was a tear in bedsheet in the double room). We regularly visit Keswick so it was such a shame that this property did not meet the price we payed or standard outlined on the description.

We believe this review to be exaggerated, but within a week of the review being submitted, without visiting the property and to reassure future guests, we arranged for the carpets and sofas to be professionally cleaned. Upon arriving at Derwent Cottage we found stains on the carpet which had occurred in recent months. They have now been removed. Neither us or the specialist cleaner could find any smell on the sofas, but they were cleaned anyway. We found two chipped items of crockery out of more than 40 pieces. One Pyrex cooking dish was also chipped. We regret this but Derwent Cottage is well equipped so there were plenty of substitutes. The bedding is of good quality. The quilts are from Dorma and Fogarty and the linen is “hotel” quality from a supplier specialising in supplying hotels. The tear in the sheet was about 1cm in length and was not easy to see. We’ve had a meeting with our cleaners to ensure high standards are maintained and we’re confident they will be. To ensure guest comfort and to keep the cottage refreshed, in the last twelve months, the shower in the main bathroom has been completely refurbished and some mattresses replaced. We will continue to replace and upgrade items that need replacing. We want future guests to be assured that we are committed to maintaining high quality at Derwent Cottage and regret that the stained carpets created an impression of poor cleaning standards. The management company has a 24/7 contact number if any problems arise during your stay. Property Owner
