Set in an elevated position, just outside the popular market town of Keswick, One The Howe is a generously proportioned ground floor apartment, that benefits from beautiful views to the western fells and offers high quality accommodation in a stunning location. With all the accommodation on the ground floor, the owners have created a homely, welcoming and comfortable retreat ideal for couples or a family. The Howe was originally built as a fine Georgian residence that has been divided into three large, self-contained apartments. Many of the original Georgian features remain including tall picture windows, spacious rooms and high ceilings. The original grandeur is evident throughout. The spacious living accommodation with an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area is complemented by a large sunroom where, throughout the year and whatever the weather, guests can relax and enjoy the amazing views. There is a choice of two large and elegant bedrooms, both with generous en-suite facilities. Set within walking distance of the villages of Braithwaite and Portinscale, with popular country pubs, the bustling market town of Keswick is close by with its excellent choice of local shops, bars and restaurants, whilst the shores of Derwentwater are nearby for those wanting to take to the water. The popular mountain biking routes of Whinlatter Forest are just down the road and with the famous Lakes distillery just a ten-minute drive away, there really is something for everyone! Accommodation in Detail Arrive through the electric gates and pull up on the driveway right outside the front door. Walk into the large and private hallway which offers plenty of space for boots, coats and outdoor gear and enter the spacious and welcoming lounge, with its high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling picture window that allows light to flood the room. This warm and comfortable room has luxurious armchairs and sofa arranged around the fireplace where a ‘state of the art’ flame effect stove provides cosiness at the press of a button. There is a smartTV in the corner. The room continues into the open plan kitchen / diner with a family dining table. The well-appointed kitchen is equipped with an excellent inventory of crockery, cutlery and kitchenware along with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, electric hob and oven. This end of the room benefits from another large picture window where you can sit and looks out across the western fells. To enjoy the best of the views step into the sun room where a real treat awaits! A breath-taking panorama of the stunning Lakeland scenery is revealed and here you can relax and enjoy the superb surroundings. All you need is a good book or the weekend papers, a coffee or a glass of wine. A glazed door opens from the sun room onto the garden patio with bistro garden furniture. Choose from either of the two well-furnished and spacious bedrooms. To the front of the property, and benefiting from a large bay window with fabulous views, the first bedroom is presented with a superking bed and complemented by a smart en-suite shower room. The second bedroom can be presented with a choice of either a superking bed or twin beds (please specify on booking) and benefits from an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower over. Both en-suites also include basin and WC. A third cloakroom WC is located in the hallway. UTILITIES - Laundry Facilities - A washing machine and line is available inside the garage with a second outside line also available behind the garage. A small, private patio is located to the side of the property, just outside the sun room and to the front of the property. There is also a well-lit shared driveway with ample parking for two cars inside and in front of a large garage. Location The nearby market town of Keswick is one of the Lake District’s most popular destinations. This friendly town hosts the very popular twice weekly market that has recently won the coveted “Best Outdoor Market” in the Great British Market Awards. Keswick also offers a fantastic array of shops offering everything from craft bakeries and local produce, antiques, crafts, outdoor clothing and much, much more. If you are looking for somewhere to eat and drink, a week just won’t be long enough to sample the great range of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars! Or try Cottage in the Wood, only 10 minutes drive, one of the Lake District’s best restaurants and recently awarded a Michelin star. For a great evening out why not visit the 100 year old Alhambra offering first class cinema entertainment in traditional surroundings or enjoy an evening at “the most beautiful and friendly theatre in Britain”, the 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater. Enjoy a cruise on Derwentwater, walk onto the fells; - Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horeshoe and Blencathra are all nearby; head underground at Honister Slate Mines or take the Via Ferrata challenge; enjoy mountain biking or follow the walking trails and Go Ape in Whinlatter Forest. For steam train enthusiasts there is the little train at Threlkeld Mining museum or the L’al Ratty which heads up into the hills from Ravenglass on the West Coast. For day trips, Ullswater is a short drive away offering lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall and Buttermere and Crummock Water offer sublime scenery. Ashness Bridge and Surprise View, situated above the Borrowdale Valley, should not be missed and perhaps even a cup of tea and homemade cake in the unspoilt village of Watendlath. Shepherd’s Café at the foot of Shepherd’s Crag, a favourite venue for climbers, is a tearoom run on High Lodore farm serving delicious homemade lunches and teas, just 10 minutes walk from the launch jetty at Lodore and well worth a visit. For those interested in pampering, The Spa at Underscar is less than a mile away or the Spa at Armathwaite Hall is a 10 minute drive.
