Stanegarth

We found this to be one of the best places we have stayed when visiting Keswick (and we've been visiting for over 30 years).

We would be happy to return again to this property in the future. Great location, comfy beds and good facilities in the property. We really enjoyed our stay.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at Stanegarth, and it works really well for the six of us, so we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Overall, we had a good stay, although there were a few minor issues on this visit. We noticed some black marks on the bed sheets and pillowcases (they did appear clean), which was a little off-putting. There were also a few cleanliness details that could be improved, such as some cobwebs, sticky marks on surfaces, and piles of feathers near the sofas. We also found the kitchen and main/family bathroom to be quite cold during our stay, although we appreciate this coincided with particularly cold weather. If these small points were addressed, we would happily return, as it’s a great base for exploring and is conveniently close to the centre of Keswick.

A lovely property to stay in with the family for an autumn break, so convenient for all amenities in Keswick, loved the Christmas touch with decorations.

Only downside was the laundry, some of the sheets/pillowcase were marked, even though washed. Not impressed with standard of cleaning eg. toilet in bathroom also kitchen when tidying up on the last day found a pack of mouldy bread behind the microwave that still had its tag on dated August 2025!! Shame …. if these little things are addressed it’s a property we’d go back to.

This is our 10th stay at the property, it's far too big for the two of us but we like the layout and space it allows and the positioning in town is perfect, easy to walk in but far enough away not to be noisy.

We love having the proper fire on winter visits. When we've stayed for full weeks we've received lovely flowers through the post to display for the week.

The hob and work surface along side had not been wiped down after the last visitors.

The pillows on the first floor front double bed were the most uncomfortable I’ve ever come across. Both small problems easily rectified. The house itself was lovely and well equipped and we enjoyed our time at Stanegarth, we would definitely stay there again.

As a family of 4 with two young boys, this property was ideal. Its location is spot on - had we not have chosen to explore beyond Keswick, we wouldn't have needed our car at all - it's the perfect location for the town centre, but also for all of the popular walks - whether they be lake walks or mountains. The property itself was lovely and clean, and really comfortable, and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. We will definitely be staying again.

Gorgeous house, 5 minute walk from the centre of Keswick.

Facilities were good, had everything you would need. Nothing negative, except one comment. The mattress covers were stained & pillows could do with covers. That being said, everything else was perfect.

This is a very comfortable house in a quiet street, but within 5 minutes walk of the town centre. The house is well-equipped and has everything you need for a happy stay, and that's exactly what we had.

Great accommodation near to town.

Three bedrooms with comfy beds and three bathrooms. Great living room/dinning room and plenty of nice crockery and cooking utensil’s. The outside area is quite small. If there are six of you then you need to stagger your showers to ensure you all have hot water. TV upstairs didn’t connect to WIFI. We will recommend this accommodation to our friends and family.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay for our Christmas break after flying in from Australia.

Christmas decorations, log fire, super comfy beds and a 5 minute walk to the beautiful pubs and restaurants of Keswick. A trip to Booths to stock us up with deliciousness and we were in heaven. Can't wait to go back again.

Fabulous cottage in excellent location.

Comfortable, exceptionally clean, spacious and airy. Really well-equipped and generously provisioned with loo roll, washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs. The well-stocked welcome basket was indeed welcome! The patio is not the biggest, but it was perfect for a relaxed cuppa on a sunny afternoon. The property was much quieter at night than I expected, given location, and everything we needed was within easy walk. The automatic nightlights on the stairs were a very good idea, and we all loved the decor. The big family bathroom is gorgeous, and all the showers were efficient, with plenty of (very) hot water. Staying here was a real treat. Thank you!

Centrally located property ideal for families, well maintained and will stay there again.

We've been before last year, and enjoyed our stay again.

It is so close to the centre of Keswick that it makes everything accessible by just walking. The house is clean, comfortable and well furnished - you could be out for a day and come back and feel like your at home.

We had an issue with a window which we reported and didn’t receive a response.

The main problem was one with an adjoining property. One night they clearly returned from the pub with several mates and played loud music and sang from circa 23:30 until 02:30. Despite us asking them to turn it down as well as several other properties doing the same it was to no avail. It was impossible to sleep through it. The noise from the party as well as banging on the door by neighbours was unbearable.

We had a lovely stay in this property.

Very comfortable and had everything you needed. Decor is done to a very high standard. Loved the speaker touch in every room. The only disappointment was the fact that the super king bed as advertised was made into twin beds which is advertised as being done on request. I had not requested this so one couple was a little disappointed. Apart from that we had a fab stay.

The property was very comfortable and served my family's needs perfectly.

It was homely. The extras like the welcome basket, books and games were a lovely touch and helped us feel more at home. The kitchen was well equipped, which made cooking Christmas dinner a lot easier. A beautiful property in an ideal location

Fantastic, cute, cosy cottage!

The photos don’t do it justice. Great location, just a 5 minute walk into town, didn’t need to move the car once parked up. We even recommended it to a group that we met. Will definitely stay again!

Loved our stay at Stanegarth.

Very cosy and comfortable. Beautiful bedrooms and en suites. Compact kitchen but with everything you need. Little back yard which was great for our dogs and with a little seating area for warmer days. Only a ten minute walk into Keswick main street. We got parked outside the house but got the last space so were reluctant to move it. It was a bit better on the Monday but I would think it might be an issue in the busy summer months. All said, we all agreed we would definitely book again.

kitchen well equipped love the real log fire.Beds very comfy. Nicely set in Keswick a very short walk into Keswick so close to everything.Only a couple of issues some left rubbish under a Set of draws in one bedroom and cobwebs around the ceiling light in dining room I removed both as couldn’t help myself besides that a clean house and the plus of being dog friendly.maybe a cleaning check is needed. All in all would book again.

Had a really enjoyable stay.

The location was excellent, near the centre of Keswick, in easy walking distance (a few minutes) of the town centre, but also quiet. The house was clean, comfortable and well furnished. We all had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

The house was just lovely, very home-from-home.

Had everything you could need. Beds very comfortable House was very clean. Also in a great location, just five minutes from the centre and easy to get to nearby walks. Couldn't fault the house. Only for info, the yard is small but we didn't use. Parking outside could be a problem at busy times but we didn't have any issues. Loved the house and Keswick ( which is so dog friendly) we're planning our return trip in the Autumn.

Think it was actually better than the pictures , really central , cottage felt like it had just been refurbished.

We were two couples but think the cottage would be fabulous for families with teenagers, they could spend their time in the movie/computer games room on the top floor

The house was in a great location walking distance for the town, parking was difficult as was very busy but managed to get in front of the house when someone moved .

Stayed with friends so was great to have space to catch up and having 3 bathrooms was ideal. Everything you need in the house.

Stanegarth in Keswick is a wonder of a place!

The house has been so tastefully and cleverly renovated, to get maximum use from the gorgeous three floor space. It is beautifully decorated throughout and feels like a cosy home-from-home. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we were able to cook properly and well with all things provided. A great washing machine and dishwasher too – very good cleans form both! The living/dining room is extremely cosy and practical with good lighting. Having an open fire makes all the difference to a holiday in the autumn or winter, and was one of the main reasons that we chose the house – the fireplace is a lovely size, and we were able to get a few roaring fires going. They added a great sense of atmosphere to our stay! The bath and showers had great water pressure and always plenty of hot water, even with 5 of us staying! Super comfy beds topped everything off! The location is just perfect, a quieter side of Keswick but short walk to the centre! Such a wonderfully genuine and professional welcome, with a lovely selection of local goodies. Very thoughtful! We immediately felt relaxed and at home, and excited to be there. We would highly recommend this place, and hope to be back! Well done Stanegarth, five stars!

Excellent accommodation and great location

Brilliant cottage in centre of Keswick, and decorated to a high standard.

Cosy and very comfortable would definitely return.

Stayed August Bank holiday week 2023.

The house is inviting and comfortable. Good size lounge and dining area with well stocked kitchen. Small rear yard area that gets sun in the afternoon evening, with table and to relax. 3 good sized bedrooms with comfortable beds. 3 bathrooms. Nice cinema room on 2nd floor and watched a couple of movies. House was clean throughout which was good. Would be happy to return.

Great property in a fantastic location.

The house is really spacious and comfortable. The top floor snug is such a well thought out idea and a lovely little treat. The house was clean and tidy, plenty of books and games to keep us occupied. The kitchen is clean, modern and well stocked with everything you need. Nice touch in leaving some tea and biscuits, and Kendal mint cake which kept us going whilst out on the fells. I would love to stay here again.

Property was excellent.

Well decorated, modernised, and equipped. Fans were provided in all rooms which was a real bonus given the weather. Location was perfect 5-10 minutes walk to lakeside, riverside parks, and town centre. Specially enjoyed the square orange restaurant and the crafty bar, but all of the pubs/cafes were really welcoming and dog friendly. Few minor niggles.. Car parking was NOT as easy as suggested, and took 3 attempts until moved to outside property, as all surrounding streets were rammed. So we didnt move the car once parked outside, and someone keyed the side of the car at some point. Bolt on back yard was not secure, and blew open at some point. Not good if pet or child left unattended for a while Rubbish bins were all full on arrival, and only general waste was emptied during the week, so unable to recycle and again had to leave all bins full for next guests. Looked same for all properties on street. Obvs council and not owner issue. The guide to the property folder was a little tired and disorganised. Would have liked a guest book as would have liked to put some nice words in about how much we enjoyed our stay, and the property itself, and also to read other reviews and any tips Feel free to publish without 'niggles'

Second time at this property and i feel it is needing a bit of a freshen up.

On arrival the front door area full of weeds and dirt, the coir mat needs replacing and door cleaned. Not a great first impression. Paint work inside needs redoing in places. Back door dirt and dust at the carpet area. Corn kernels stuck to the filter in dishwasher. Crumbs inside cupboard to left of fridge. The fridge shelf on the door is broken in 2 places and didnt feel could safely put milk there. Fridge door didnt seem to shut with a tight seal. The house is spacious and plenty parking right outside. Central location. Comfy beds. It is a lovely house but just feel some things are being overlooked by cleaners and owners should perhaps look at sprucing it up here and there.

Fantastic location in Keswick.

Very busy as it was New Year but managed to park 2 cars very close to the property. Lovely house and amenities. Would not hesitate to stay again if staying in Keswick.

Excellent house with everything of a high standard .

Everything you needed and more. We had a lovely week . It is in a great location and easy to park even with 3 cars we had. We will definitely be booking for next year.

Suggest modifying the first floor en suite door to open outwards as the space gained would be really beneficial!

We really enjoyed our stay and the house was immaculate.

It had everything we needed and was really well located being only a short walk into the town centre. The space and the fact there were three showers meant the stay with our three teenage daughters was well catered for.

A wonderful place to stay, we were very pleased it was cool downstairs during the hottest summer temperature.

The property was beautiful and facilities fantastic.

Location is perfect and we will love to return! The bathrooms all have very powerful showers and there was everything you could need in the house. On road parking is easy around the area and beds very comfy! Unfortunately a couple of sour notes that tarnished the start and end to the holiday that I would like to note. On arrival the cot was nowhere to be found even though it was requested beforehand. We had a long journey and I had to read the house guide to find the cot and build it with a very tired baby. The high chair which was also requested was filthy and had to be thoroughly cleaned before it could be used. As stated in your guide the twin beds would be made as a king unless otherwise requested. These were left as two singles so had to be pushed together and used like this without the proper bedding for the week. On departure we spent time and care making sure all beds were stripped, washed up and emptied all bins etc as requested. With a baby and dog it takes time and at exactly 10am your cleaner barged through the front door with no introduction and was extremely rude. She left the front door and lounge door wide open and when asked if she could close it so we could safely take our dog out to the car on a lead, she replied she was too busy and was getting started. She then blocked the front door with her bags and made it very difficult to carry my baby out through the door. We asked her for 30 seconds to walk out with our last things and had a very rude comment in return. This left us feeling very sad at the end of our holiday and wished we hadn’t taken the due care to leave the house in an extremely neat and tidy condition. We will hope to return to Stanegarth for the beautiful conditions of the property but are disappointed with these points.

Stanegarth was exceptionally clean and everything was in excellent condtion.

Kitchen facilities were top notch! We had a very lovely Christmas here and needed nothing extra. Would love to return and highly recommend.

Absolutely fabulous place!

Spotlessly clean, toasty warm on arrival, lovely bathroom with great shower, everything you need in the kitchen, beds VERY comfy. We loved it so much I instantly booked a week for next September.

A really nice, homely base for exploring the fells and with the town centre nearby; couldn't have been better.

This was a very well appointed property.

Spacious. Quality fixtures and fittings. Loved the 2 lounges, the kids enjoyed the games upstairs and sat there at night. The duvets were very warm, could do with a lighter weight duvet but this is really nit picking. One kitchen blind fell down when we were there. Contacted Lakelovers who said would get someone out but I said just to leave it till the day we were leaving. Think the neighbours use the waste bin for themselves as was full a few days after it was emptied and the bags were not ours. This is in no way a criticism of the property, just more so you are aware. Close to town centre so handy for evening meals. Loads of walks from front door. Would absolutely come back to this property. We loved it.

We have just returned from Stanegarth.

We had a wonderful week in this property. It was lovely and clean, well equipped and the situation was great. It was plenty big enough for the 6 adults and 1 baby & dog in our group. There was plenty of hot water and heating if needed. Although there was no allocated parking, we had no trouble at all parking the 3 cars in our party. A great house that we would definitely stay in again. Note to owner or whoever: The 2 vacuum cleaners were not up to the job. We always like to hoover through during our holiday and on leaving but were left frustrated with the vacuums supplied. Our only complaint!

Lovely.

Clean. Central. Really enjoyed our stay at Stanegarth. The pictures that looked lovely were accurate! Very convenient. 5 minutes walk to centre of Keswick, and 2 mins walk to the Spar shop. Very clean. Lovely bath and shower rooms. TV room was a great bonus. Pricy but would definitely come again if we can still afford it. Points for improvement: 1. We would have appreciated an alternative to 13.5 tog duvets - great for winter but not a warm September. 2. The automatic bin lid was broken.

The cottage was clean, tidy and well appointed.

The TV/ games room was brilliant and gave us the opportunity to spread out in the evenings and undertake different activities. The hot water system requires tweaking in order to facilitate evening showers for six persons!! Parking in Keswick is always going to be difficult in peak season. We were only able to park outside the cottage on one occasion!

There are 4 x Sonos speakers throughout the property which you can easily connect to and play your music through - that was a nice.

Also there was a small hamper left and flowers arrived the day after we arrived -
