The Courtyard

Absolutely lovely accommodation, would recommend getting some curtains for the large windows in kitchen/living room, and maybe a coffee table.

Otherwise a lovely stay in a unique setting perfect for getting away and unplugging.

We have stayed at The Courtyard on several occasions.

It's a unique find with its peaceful and beautiful setting, whilst close to Carlisle and other places of interest.. Kirklinton Hall has such an interesting history and watching it's restoration gradually taking place is fascinating. The Courtyard is comfortable and cosy, with a great woodburner. The extensive grounds are a delight to walk around. Jess and George the owners are great hosts and always on hand if needed. Can't wait until our next visit!

The only slight improvement to be made is we felt we could have done with more crockery etc in the kitchen.

Also a hand towel as well as the bath towel would be nice. Otherwise the Courtyard was warm and cosy and a delight to stay in.

Absolutely stunning property, a real gem of a find!

Would recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat whilst still being close to Carlisle. Visits to Vindolanda,the Roman fort museum, Carlisle Cathedral, Silloth, The Sill (with a lovely walk to the Sycamore Gap - new growth spotted YAY!). Then a trip on the Carlisle to Settle railway where we really enjoyed the Flowerpot Festival. Will definitely be returning as there is so much to see and do. A lovely place to sit and paint and improve my photography. We loved our morning visits from Inca and hope to see Nala bouncing around next time! Next time we will be exploring the lovely gardens more and hopping over the borders into Scotland.

We had such a lovely stay at the Courtyard.

The accommodation was beautiful, as were the grounds. I have to say, the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in! It was perfect having the little cafe nearby and we enjoyed a fabulous lunch there. I would absolutely recommend a stay here and we hope to return again in the future.

Hosts Jess and George are doing a fantastic job renovating the hall, and the Courtyard is a good example of the top notch accomodation they provide.

We stayed in this beautiful cottage for 3 nights whilst attending a wedding at Hidden River Barn, the location was perfect for us being only 10 minutes from the venue, but overall we loved the cottage and found the area itself so lovely too!

We would come back to this cottage if we were coming this way again! Such a friendly place to stay and it all felt very homely. We had our dogs with us and had very easy access to the gardens and did some walks around the local area with them, there aren’t many public footpaths near by but the roads were quiet enough to walk along most of the time!

Amazing property in an absolutely stunning location.

Felt very private when we stayed. Lovely welcome pack provided on arrival. Comfortable bedrooms and log burner in the living room making the place lovely and cosy. Only downside for us was not being walking distance to many amenities as we had the baby and dog with us, which is the only reason we wouldn’t stay again. But good location for driving to local sight seeing / towns.

Gorgeous cottage and gardens.

We had everything we needed and were very comfortable. Jess and George were on hand to answer any questions. Lovely welcome treats were a nice surprise. Our dog fell in love with resident lab, Inka. Onsite coffee shop 30 seconds from front door was an added bonus with scones and cakes to die for. We look forward to visiting again in the future and to see the renovations.

No secure garden just for this cottage, therefore could not let the dog out unattended or our little boy.

We could hear the people next door in there holiday cottage the first 2 days which when I booked I got the impression it was in its own, the cottage was clean and well looked after but to far from the lakes for future holidays.

Absolutely stunning place to stay.

The accommodation was beautiful, it had all the essentials we needed. It’s a perfect location for visiting the lakes, Scotland & Northumberland. We were up & out early every day so didn’t have as much time in the cottage as we’d of liked, we’ll definitely be back!

We loved staying in the courtyard, is a very welcoming home and the surroundings are beautiful.

The house was well equipped with essential things including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, salt and pepper and other. They left us a welcome pack, really thoughtful and a very nice gesture. The owners were always very attentive and very quick to respond to any queries. We loved the courtyard, just a few amazing days away with our small baby.

An absolutely delightful cottage in beautiful grounds which the kids and the dog loved.

Everything has been done to a very high standard and it feels quite luxurious. The owners are lovely and Jess is so helpful and really went out of her way to make our stay perfect. The onsite cafe is excellent - you have to try the scones they are the best I’ve ever had! The owners have lots of plans for the place and are so passionate about restoring the ruin we can’t wait to see how they get on. I can’t recommend this cottage highly enough. Just perfect.

Stunning setting, cottage was lovely, bright & airy, everything you might need in a stunning kitchen area.

Hosts George & Jessica, (not forgetting Inca the lovely retriever) around if needed & it was lovely to read about the plans they have for the future. Very tranquil & quiet and beautiful sunsets, the silence at night was perfect, coming from living under the flight path of Stansted airport it was a real treat. Thank you for your hospitality & good luck with the project.

Excellent accommodation finished to a high standard within the grounds of the ruins of a country house.

The accommodation itself had everything you could need and the welcome hamper was a nice touch. The owners and their family were extremely welcoming and friendly as was Inca the dog. Would definitely recommend.

The Courtyard in Kirklington was without doubt the best place I've ever stayed it.

It was clean, tidy, had a fabulous welcome pack. Had everything you could possibly need. It's in such a beautiful setting and just stunning. It is somewhere I'd have loved to live. Highly recommend ☆☆☆☆☆

This is a gorgeous place to stay, set in an amazing grounds of a stunning old property which is carefully being renovated!

It’s really relaxing, has fantastic fixtures and furnishings with underfloor heating and genuinely has everything you need for a lovely break :-) Will definitely come back :-)

The holiday was perfect in every way.

Peace and tranquility. Spotless accommodation. Very comfortable beds and surroundings, which were spacious and yet cosy. The hosts could not have been better, being very friendly and professional. The private grounds were a major asset especially with being dog owners. There was an unexpected welcome pack of tasty treats. The immediate location is superb. The strategic location is superb being between 4 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We found that we could do as little or as much as we wished. It’s just like something out of a magazine and it’s so peaceful where the surrounding grounds are private. Perfect for escaping everyday life and soaking in a bit of the countryside.

Very comfortable. Peaceful. We had very good nights of sleep. The owners were very friendly and we were welcomed with lovely treats and wine on our arrival. Spotlessly clean. Stunning property in a fabulous setting.

I wished I had taken my art “stuff” with me it was so inspiring. It was super quiet too. The hosts were very warm and welcoming. They are happy to share their journey with this Grade II project - I was so impressed. The cottage was spacious and warm - everything high spec and everything you need provided for. It has touches of old with the modern - wonderful conversion - stunning. My only con would be it was approx 5 miles from a pub/ restaurant etc. Our labradoodle loved his morning walks down to the river straight out of the front door. We will definitely want to return next year if not sooner.

We found the property to be cosy yet spacious and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds very comfy. The grounds were lovely too, the girls loved walking down to the woods to play. We loved our stay, thank you!

Immaculate Cottage, beautifully furnished, very comfortable and in a perfect location to just chill out or explore the area.

The Hosts attention to detail and friendly welcome (including their young daughter and lovely dog) added to the enjoyment of our stay. We were sorry when we had to leave and will definitely be booking again in the very near future.

Such a warm and cosy stay!

The attention to detail was wonderful. The grounds are so quiet, it felt like we were the only ones there. The bed was unbelievably comfortable - I need to know what pillows are used! The bath was stunning. We had planned a few walks and meals out but we ended up mainly staying in as we were so relaxed. Will absolutely be back.

A wonderful cosy and stylish home, with lovely luxury touches (gorgeous sheets, beautiful fire and delicious welcome treats!

) Perfect place to unwind and ideal for a family with a toddler as no stairs to worry about, with stunning little walks on site. Thoroughly recommend this spot to unwind. Host was really responsive when we had a question about the heating! Thankyou!

Everything perfect, what a gorgeous place.

We stayed Monday to Friday in Oct/Nov 2023 and would love to return. Clean, well equipped and nothing was too much trouble for the vendors.
