Kirkstones

We have stayed twice at Kirkstones and found it a quiet, well equipped apartment with wonderful views of Keswick and the surrounding fells.

However we were much more aware on the second occasion that it is an apartment not a house, there being two properties in the building, and the noise from upstairs was intrusive, even though I don't believe the occupants were doing anything more than just walking around. It may be that the ceiling between floors was insufficiently soundproofed when the restructure took place, but it is something we would need to consider before booking again, along with the fact that the patio area is closely overlooked by the balcony of the upper property. It's a lovely place to have a break, but maybe better if upstairs isn't occupied.

The property was perfect.

Comfortable Beds. Kitchen was more than adequately stocked with utensils and crockery .Spotlessly clean everywhere. There was a slight musty smell in both bathrooms but that could be due to being closed up. It disappeared after an airing and when windows open where possible. The view was incredible and the property certainly under sells this point. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace 3 mornings out of 4. We also encountered a Hedgehog one evening in the Hedge at the back

We have visited this lovely, comfortable, clean and extremely well equipped property on numerous occasionsns.

It is always the one we look for first now when visiting the Keswick area. The spectacular views from the patio are an added bonus in this quiet and restful location. We also saw rabbits and a roe deer in the grounds. My only wish would have been for a room fan to be available and a lighter summer weight duvet but we did visit in a heatwave!

, and it didn't disappoint. The apartment is beautifully furnished, everything we needed was supplied, plus many extra's too. We are booked to come again in October and are looking at dates for next year too. Thanks Neil and Judith for the added extras too.

This cottage was outstanding and I can’t say enough good about it.

The fabulous view is what drew me to it in the first place, but the interior was exceptional. One of the best places we have stayed.

The views were fantastic. We would visit again. The only negative issue is the mattress in the main bedroom, it was too soft.

Everything from the booking to the arrival went well. The apartment was very clean and very well equipped. Really enjoyed our stay. Two years ago we came to Kirkstone and we have seen major improvements in that time.

All good. Clean and warm house. We had excellent weather, watched the rabbits but did not see the squirrel this time.

The property was lovely and extremely well equipped with plenty of kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery.

The views from the patio were outstanding, even when it rained! We would definitely consider coming back in the future.

This a lovely holiday flat with stupendous views over the fells.

This is a lovely, spacious, well equipped apartment with a terrace that gets sun most of the day and has amazing views (although you can hear the main road.

) It's a converted house with an apartment upstairs which does mean you can hear your neighbour's quite clearly and we were asked not to 'slam doors in the middle of the night' when we closed our bedroom and bathroom door at 11pm to go to bed.

The only complaint we have is that we should have booked two weeks instead of one!

Kirkstones is the perfect Lakeland retreat for exploring and unwinding.

It is by far the best accommodation we have used. The apartment is spotless, comfy and everything we could need and so much more is there. We cannot wait to return again in October. We appreciate the gifts left for us from Neil and Judith.

All furnishings were high standard and maintained to a high level of cleanliness. Very well equipped..even had egg cups which we rarely find in holiday accommodation! Stunning views from the patio. We had a very pleasant and comfortable few days at Kirkstones.

The cottage itself was so lovely. Sparkling clean, well furnished and comfortable. Importantly for me not "fussy". The situation was majestic overlooking Skiddaw and every day we sat on the terrace. Looking at the views Would definitely recommend this cottage.

What a delightful property !

We absolutely loved it, especially the patio - fab view which we made the most of because the weather mostly allowed us to do so. Initially we were surprised how much traffic noise we could hear but we soon got accustomed to it and heard the birdsong much more clearly. Great facilities - kitchen a delight to use and the drying area in the boiler cupboard was very useful. Double bed extremely comfortable.

Our 2nd time staying here in 18 months and still as perfect as first time.

It’s one of the most relaxing,spacious and clean cottages that we have stayed in.Updates(although not needed)have been made since our last stay so you have ensured everything is perfect for your guests stay,thankyou.

Each year there has been improvements made. It's a great place to stay. We will definitely be back next year.

Ground floor with patio overlooking Skiddaw. Access to the property via the narrow lanes was quite tricky, involving a 3 point turn, but you soon learn the route options Very quiet location with just the 2 apartments (upstairs and downstairs).

We have rented holiday homes for many years.

There is usually something about the accommodation that has a downside, not so this property. It is 100% in every aspect. Beautifully furnished, cosy and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen, we cook most evenings and I could not find a single item that I needed missing. Very comfortable beds with high quality bedding. We loved the fantastic views and will definitely return.

A beautiful property situated in a quiet, rural area with wonderful views.

The accommodation is fully equipped with everything you need, warm and cosy and great for walking. This property will not disappoint and was a little gem of a find.

The info book stated you could use the shed for bikes and use the garden cushions. There was no key!! I telephoned one of the numbers left and asked where the key was. A lady just said I don’t know where it is. Not at all helpful which was a shame. Won’t be staying at kirkstones again or recommending it to our family and friends. Janet

Excellent location.

Very clean and tidy all the facilities you need was there. Excellent views. Absolutely perfect.

The holiday cottage itself was superb with stunning views towards Skiddaw, I have only knocked 1 star off because I nearly burnt the clutch out on the car driving up the small steep section of dirt track leading up to the hotel drive which itself wasn't sign posted as it looked like the hotel is now shut, consequently we had to drive back around and up the short section of steep dirt track again, after we had got our bearings we found it better to come up to the holiday cottage from the other direction avoiding the dirt track altogether.

A lovely little cottage,in beautiful surroundings with everything you could want,beautifully clean and comfortable.

Beautiful spacious cottage,2 of us went but would be ideal for a family of 4 or 2 couples with having 2 bathrooms.

We have stayed in many cottages but this is now one of our favourites.Extremely comfortable, clean,quiet and gorgeous views. We met the gentleman who has the cottage above and he was really nice.Will definitely return,thankyou

A favourite place of ours.

This was our 2nd time at Kirkstones and would like to stay again. Owner was very helpful.

This is our second visit to Kirkstones and once again we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

From booking to arriving at the property it was so easy. Heart of the Lakes is our go to Company when staying n the Lakes. The cleanliness of the home is excellent , the facilities provided are just like being at home especially the fully equipped kitchen. Beds are very comfortable - we certainly slept well. The place is in a very quiet location but amenities are only a short drive away in Keswick or there is a local shop, within walking distance to Braithwaite. Plenty of nearby walks and the A66 is just down the road so travelling out is no problem. The owners of this property definitely know how to make you feel welcome and have a comfortable stay. We cannot think of anything negative to say - even the weather was kind to us !!!

The property has many thoughtful touches.

High quality linens, new and comfortable beds, usable cool wear with knives that have an edge etc. gorgeous views of the scenery. Quiet but very close to town and outdoor adventure.

This should have been a fantastic holiday full of rest and relaxation.

The property is very well furnished very comfortable and kitted out to a high standard. The view is wonderful and very uplifting. Five stars for that. BUT we were there when the owners were there and we felt uncomfortable. We felt they were very on top of us, as their flat is directly above. We chose this place to get away from the noise of others. Sadly with the owners directly above this was not the case. Could have been a fantastic getaway but ended up being stressful. Two stars taken away. My advice is check when the owners will be there before booking.

We have had a wonderful week in the Lake District - No rain and wall to wall sunshine for 4 days.

Thorntwaite was a perfect location and Kirkstones the perfect property for us.

The cottage had the most amazing views, had not expected it to be so quiet and in a fantastic location for all the walking and sightseeing.

Very comfortable, great showers, bed and kitchen - cannot fault this property at all.

There was a dishwasher missing from the advertised facilities list which was a welcome bonus. The family bathroom has also had a wonderful refit since the photos in the listing. The kitchen was very well equipped so we were able to cook for ourselves rather than eat out all the time, although the art gallery in the village does lovely food too. Short walk to a bus stop to get into nearby Keswick, with a service every 30mins. Recommend, but maybe not for younger children as the garden slopes are precipitous!

Very pleased with our visit to Kirkstones.

Quiet location with great views from the sun terrace. Easy access to the North lakes & coast, and walks down to Bassenthwaite & up into Whinlatter from the front door.

Fabulous views from every window.

Breakfast on the patio with the sun streaming over the mountains. Inside everything was well appointed and thought out. The bathrooms were particularly impressive with a big bath and fantastic shower. The welcoming bottle of prosecco was a lovely addition, especially when enjoyed outside, surrounded by daffodils and wildlife. This is a very special place.
