Over Brow Cottage

Very nice stay in this comfortable Coniston cottage - "upside-down" with bedrooms on ground floor, and kitchen and lounge upstairs (with great view down to the lake).

Slightly narrow and bendy access drive to parking in front of cottage. Close to village centre - easy walk. And great access to Walna Scar Road and the old railway line footpath. Would have liked to have a cafetière in the otherwise well-equipped kitchen, and maybe an extra pair of pillows, but otherwise hard to fault. Would be more than happy to stay again, and recommend to others.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. It’s in a wonderful location, with Coniston and some of the Lake District’s best walks right on the doorstep. It was the perfect base for exploring the area while still feeling peaceful enough to completely switch off. One of the things we loved most was how convenient the location is. The village shops and pubs are only around a five-minute walk away, The Ship Inn is just a couple of minutes from the cottage, and the lakeside is only around a ten-minute stroll. Once we’d parked the van on arrival, we never needed to use it again. We spent our entire stay relaxing in and around Coniston. We travelled as a family with our two miniature schnauzers, one of whom had only recently become completely blind following surgery. We were a little apprehensive before arriving, but he settled in brilliantly and clearly enjoyed his holiday just as much as we did. Our son and his friend are keen hikers and spent a day climbing the Old Man of Coniston and visiting Goats Water. Despite returning absolutely soaked, they said it was one of the highlights of their trip! Jill was a wonderful host—friendly, thoughtful and clearly passionate about providing a great experience for her guests. Communication was excellent throughout, and it was lovely to receive such a personal message after our stay. Overall, Over Brow Cottage is a beautiful place to stay in an equally beautiful part of the Lake District. Whether you’re looking for a base to tackle the fells or simply somewhere peaceful to unwind, this cottage is ideal. We’d happily return and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Coniston.

Beautiful cottage in a great location, just a short walk into the centre of Coniston.

Perfect for a family holiday. A very steep driveway but you are rewarded with the most amazing views from the cottage and its garden. The owners and their dog are lovely, our own dog Rufus had the best time, and I’m sure we’ll return!

We fell in love with this place and didn't want to leave.

It's very clean, very pretty, has a fantastic view and is peaceful and quiet despite it being close to all the amenities. The inside was beautifully decorated with lovely detailing. We loved looking out over the lake and watching the swallows and swifts and our dog loved Bobbie who must be the worlds friendliest dog. We've been coming to the Lakes for over 30 years and this is the best place we have stayed. We will certainly be back.

We had a fabulous stay in this delightful cottage.

The view from the cottage inside and out is spectacular. It is within a short walking distance from the shops and pubs, it is up a steep hill but it is only short. The hill is worth it for the views. It is an amazing place, a very calming space to reset and relax. There was also a foot path at the back of the cottage which takes you to the copper mines if you enjoy walking. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of pots pans and cutlery if you fancy cooking. The owner was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be returning.
