“Afton is perfectly located in Ambleside with easy access to town and plenty on offer in Ambleside.”

This was our second visit as we were so pleased with our first visit August 2023. This time we had upstairs 'neighbours' who put their TV on from the moment they got up, after they returned from their walks through to bed time - which they are perfectly entitled to do, however, the permanent noise from their TV was most offputting and disturbed the peace we wanted. We left a day early as a result. The 'Smart' TV in Afton was awful to use and most of the time we gave up - not that we watch ...

This time we had upstairs 'neighbours' who put their TV on from the moment they got up, after they returned from their walks through to bed time - which they are perfectly entitled to do, however, the permanent noise from their TV was most offputting and disturbed the peace we wanted. We left a day early as a result. The 'Smart' TV in Afton was awful to use and most of the time we gave up - not that we watch much TV - just a couple of hours after dinner in the evening. Due to disturbance from Afton View, sadly we would not risk a return visit.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and we’re genuinely sorry to hear that your second stay didn’t match the enjoyment of your first visit in 2023, Although your comments in our guest book from your last stay when you couldn’t find the iron or ironing board and the knives weren’t sharp enough suggested you didnt enjoy that stay either. We truly value returning guests, so it’s disappointing to learn that this stay fell short for you. Regarding the noise from the neighbouring apartment, we do understand how frustrating it can be when another guest’s routine doesn’t align with your own preference for quiet. Unfortunately, as you noted, they were using their TV at normal hours and within reasonable expectations for a holiday apartment. We wish we had been given the opportunity during your stay to try to find a solution for you before you decided to leave early. As for the Smart TV in Afton, it is the same model and setup used successfully by many guests, including during your own previous stay. We do provide instructions in the welcome folder, and we’re always happy to assist if anything seems unclear. Had we known you were having difficulty, we would have gladly helped resolve it. While we’re grateful for your repeat custom, we’re also confident that the apartment’s cleanliness, facilities, and accuracy remain exactly as advertised, and feedback from other guests consistently reflects this but sad that these didnt meet your expectations due to you marking us down in all areas. We’re sorry this visit didn’t meet your expectations, but we appreciate your thoughts and wish you the very best in your future travels and finding somewhere more peaceful in Ambleside. The property

Afton, a charming ground-floor apartment in the Cumbrian town of Ambleside, is situated in a peaceful area and can accommodate two visitors. The apartment provides the perfect base for a couple's retreat, surrounded by hidden gems and nature-filled walking trails.

It enjoys a rural setting within the Lake District National Park and is only a short distance from Lake Windermere. After pulling up in the private driveway and parking in your own large dedicated space, enter through the private side entrance and directly into the handy utility, an ideal space to dry your wet clothes, featuring space to hang your outdoor gear, with a handy separate WC on your right. Enter the warm kitchen to satisfy your self catering demands, here you will discover a variety of cooking appliances such as a double electric oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer and a welcome gift box full of local products.

The large homey living and dining area offers the ideal place to unwind after a day of hiking and touring, with plush recliner sofas, a gas fireplace, a Smart TV, and a dining table for two.

Gather around the table and make plans for your next day of adventures using the array of plentiful walking maps and books provided. Venture outside for some fresh air, also designed for alfresco dining, while admiring the tranquil surroundings.

Afterward, come inside for a refresh in the spacious en-suite bathroom, which includes a large walk-in shower and a double ended bath, where you can soak away those aching muscles, making use of the complimentary toiletries before retiring to the king-sized bedroom, awakening to a packed itinerary of sights, including the possibility to hike up Wansfell Pike, explore Rydal Cave, go to Stock Ghyll Force, or learn about the history of The Bridge House. As you approach Grasmere, take some time to see Wordsworth Grasmere, the former residence of the celebrated poet William Wordsworth, or take a tour of the National Trust's Allan Bank and Grasmere, a Grade II-listed Georgian palace rich in opulence and history. Reaching Lake Windermere, take advantage of the busy, tourist-filled region to visit the Hill Top Beatrix Potter House, climb Claife Heights, or choose to spend a cultural afternoon at the National Trust - Wray Castle. Keswick is another interesting location that is advised for travellers to stop by; here, you may tour the Keswick Museum and Derwent Pencil Museum or visit the stunning Derwent Water Jetties. Make Afton your home base whilst exploring Cumbria.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
