“Copilot said: We had a great holiday and would recommend the property to many guests.”

However, we felt the listing was somewhat misleading. We specifically searched for a property with a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom, and while the listing suggests this, access to the accommodation requires climbing a full flight of external stairs. As the property is situated above another accommodation, it feels more like a first- and second-floor property rather than a true ground-floor one. Although this was manageable for us, my wife found the stairs challenging, particularly when ...

Although this was manageable for us, my wife found the stairs challenging, particularly when accessing the car park. Guests with mobility issues or wheelchair users may wish to take this into consideration. Had the access arrangements been made clearer in the listing, we may have chosen a different property. Overall, it is a lovely place to stay, but we feel the description could be more accurate.

“Comfy, spacious and very clean cottage with lots of care & detail put into quality furnishings.”

Large enough for a big family. Parking limited to one vehicle and space is small, if you have a chunky car or 4WD. We were grateful for this beautiful holiday home looking out over the Ghyll as our party were 3 generations, eldest being 87 and the weather was against us. Steep walk down to Ambleside and back again for those less fit/able.

“Our stay was perfect at Beechside, a very comfortable stay in a clean, modern spacious house with everything you could possibly ask for even down to games to play in the evening and lots of information for things to in and around the surrounding areas.”

“We loved our stay at Beechwood.”

As a family of 5 the accommodation was spotless. It felt like it was newly decorated and new bathrooms. The kitchen had all you could need with all the little bits and pieces of cleaning implements that you would often forget to bring for a self catering holiday. We would definitely come back if visiting Lake District again as also the location is so good too. Just a short walk into Ambleside town. The lovely sound of the ghyll water flowing nearby also loved and found very therapeutic.

“We have stayed in many rental properties over the years and this one was one of the very best.”

The quality of the furnishings was excellent and the home felt very well cared for. We had a very comfortable week and will hopefully return in the future. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to our friends. The location is very peaceful with a lovely outlook from the lounge and being just a few minutes walk from Ambleside centre was a real bonus - despite the steep hill! We did not need to use the car at anytime during our stay, plenty of walks direct from the property or within a short bus ride - we loved it

Nothing has been overlooked. The owners provided the best selection of maps and walking guides I have experienced in holiday accommodation. Beechside is ideally located in a quiet spot next to the ghyll but only a short stroll takes you into the centre of Ambleside. I will definitely return to this accommodation.

“Absolutely first class in every respect.”

Incredibly well furnished & equipped, they've thought of everything - even the snow shovel got some use after our unexpected blizzard! The quality of furnishings & equipment is excellent - from the appliances to the crockery, from the sofas to the toilet roll. Everything & everywhere was spotlessly clean too so you literally could just "make yourself at home" as they encourage you to do. We've stayed in many holiday lets & without doubt, this is the best we've stayed in quality wise. The owners even got in touch to make sure we were OK after the blizzard hit. Little things like that go a long way and it was very much appreciated. Thank you Beechside & see you again!

“Beechside is a fabulous property.”

Extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. I have stayed in many holiday properties but this has to be one of the very best. An extremely good selection of kitchen tools and equipment along with cleaning goods which makes keeping on top of chores a breeze. A lovely welcome pack. All the rooms were warm and comfortable. Shower in the downstairs ensuite was incredible. This is a well-maintained and very comfortable home from home. We loved our stay and would love to come back for another stay.

“Enjoyed our stay at Beechside, providing us with everything we needed.”

Although we ate out most evenings the kitchen was well equipped. The beds were comfortable as was showers. The upstairs hose on shower had a slight spilt. Some of the doors were nit closing probably and we had trouble with front door lock, kept turning and not locking so had to keep fiddling with it until it did. One of the dining chairs had a slight mark to the front of it and we noticed a staple of some kind started to come through the leather, this may need looking at to avoid anyone getting injured. Also one of the mugs had a chip to the handled. We had a lovely time.

Very clean, modern with great facilities. It is obvious that much thought has gone into providing guests with very simple but useful little touches in order to make the stay so comfortable and enjoyable, and not even the unfortunate collapse of the single bed my son was using would make us drop out ratings. When the bed problem arose we had instant communication and help from Lakelovers. We will certainly recommend to others and we will be back!

The property

Beautifully converted in the former bobbin mill, on the banks of Stock Ghyll Waterfalls, Beechside is a deceptively spacious property that has been finished to a very high standard to create a high quality and luxurious retreat in one of the Lake District's most popular locations.

Relax on the riverside balcony with the noise of the cascading river in the background, enjoy an evening drink on the veranda as you watch the sunset over the Lakeland Fells.

Access via stairs from the car park, the accommodation is over two levels.

The bright and welcoming lounge, with its high vaulted ceiling is a great place to relax and socialise and is complemented by a unique mezzanine level reading room complete with the owners' very own Lakeland Library to help you plan your next walk or to learn more about the rich history or literary heritage the area has to offer.

The bustling town centre offers a great selection of local bars, restaurants and cafes along with a great range of local shops, many selling local produce.

Returning to Beechside you will find a well-appointed kitchen that is the perfect place to prepare everything from a great Lakeland breakfast to a fantastic dinner to share with family or friends.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District there are a myriad of walks from the door, follow in the footsteps of William Wordsworth and enjoy an afternoon stroll to Grasmere, the more adventurous might head out onto Fairfield Horseshoe a favourite of many a Lakeland Fell walker and if you believe a little effort deserves a reward why not watch the sunset from the top of the nearby Wansfell!

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
