The property

Every corner of this romantic cottage is as pretty as a picture; delicately refurbished with leather furnishings and French-style painted furniture, but retaining the irreplaceable charm of old exposed beams and traditional feature fireplace. Buttonhole Cottage is a perfect retreat for couples; cosy up by the woodburning stove after an exhilarating day on the fells, dine-in in style or by candle light in the delightful patio area. Fall in love with the delightful cottage bedroom and pamper yourselves in the decadent bathroom. Only 3 minutes from the vibrant centre of Ambleside, Buttonhole Cottage is well-placed for any special occasion. Treat yourselves to a meal at the acclaimed Glass House restaurant, or take a romantic evening cruise from Waterhead Pier. You won't want to leave! == Accommodation in detail Entrance directly into the mood-lit lounge, with character beams, wooden floor, Milano leather furniture and woodburning stove. A couple of steps lead to the cottage kitchen and dining area, with Heritage French cream dining furniture and access to the candle-lit enclosed yard. Upstairs to the gorgeous cottage bedroom, with French-style king size bed and views to the Lakeland Fells. Separate walk-in wardrobe. Stylish bathroom with luxurious roll top bath and separate shower cubicle. Location Ambleside is a perfect location for a romantic cottage holiday in the Lake District. Amidst breathtaking scenery and on the shores of Lake Windermere, the vibrant village centre is a foodies delight - there are numerous cafes, high quality delicatessens and a selection of acclaimed Lake District restaurants for that special occasion. Not to mention the cosy traditional Lakeland pubs and lively bars! You'll also find a superb cinema, pizzeria and live jazz bar, Zeffirellis. Stroll a few minutes to the shore of Lake Windermere at Waterhead Pier, and you can catch a Windermere steamer to Bowness or Lakeside - two other popular Lake District self-catering destinations. Ambleside provides easy access to many other must-see areas of the Lake District. For example, follow the A591 road north past tranquil Rydal Water and you'll reach historic Grasmere; this magical village is surrounded by the landscapes that inspired the poet William Wordsworth. Follow the A593 only a short distance to the Langdale Valley (one of the most popular locations for photography in the Lake Ditsrict) then on to picturesque Coniston. For a romantic Sunday drive, head to the Kirkstone Pass road which leads between Windermere and Ullswater. The scenery is unforgettable, and the Queen's Head provides an indulgent Sunday lunch en-route.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
