Dove Cottage

A very nice property which has been extremely well renovated in a very quiet location.

We had no trouble parking on the narrow street but the hill was steeper than we had imagined

Four of us stayed at Dove Cottage and it was lovely, very clean, modern and was very well equipped.

We had a really nice time there. The only thing wrong, it needs a handrail on the basement stairs as we found this a bit dangerous and it would also be good to have a small coffee table in the sitting room. We would definitely go there again.

Dove cottage is in a wonderfully quiet part of Ambleside but less than 10 mins walk into town.

We didn’t use the car at all as there are walks from the doorstep and a great bus service. The cottage is newly renovated and has been done to a very high standard. Everything was immaculate and although it is small has everything you need. Lovely bathrooms and very comfortable beds. We had no problem parking which is a huge bonus so close to town. Highly recommended.

Nice house.

Be aware it is not very big. There were 3 of us, and this felt more than enough, especially regarding the kitchen table, living room, and number of mugs. Bedroom wardrobe still not mended. This was a concern, as the loose door was propped up in place and could potentially fall on someone. Parking was challenging, especially if you need the EV charging point (we didn’t). We parked further up the road all week. A teapot and a slotted spoon would have been good to have. If you want to use the coffee machine, take Vertuo capsules, as you can’t buy them locally. Tesco, Co-op, and Booths did not have them.

Dove Cottage is a fantastic place to stay.

The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard with quality products by the owners eg Hans Grohe taps and shower. The bathrooms/shower room are of a high standard with a very efficient heating system. The location of the cottage is equally good provided that you are mobile but you are rewarded given its elevation with beautiful views of Wansfell. The location is incredibly quiet and parking outside was not an issue. Generally it was a wonderful week and we would very much like to revisit. Whilst we did not use the kitchen facilities, it had everything there from cutlery, plates etc if you wished to cook. A special mention also for the beds and bed linen, again all of high quality. The owners have thought about everything to make one's stay as comfortable as possible. A home from home ! The only minuscule negative was in the upstairs bedroom there is no hanging space . There was however hanging space available in the basement bedroom. Also, as instructed in the welcome book, we formally recorded an issue ( more for the owners benefit) with the wardrobe doors on the top bedroom which had obviously come of the rails but despite acknowledging our e mail there was no follow up from Sykes despite telling us an agent would be in touch. This was not an issue but we just wanted to alert the owners to a problem for future guests. Thank you owners for a wonderful week in your beautiful cottage !

Beautiful, small but well appointed kitchen.

Lovely bedrooms. Gorgeous views down to lake Windermere.

My daughter and I had 5 nights in this lovely cottage in October 2025.

Having 2 spacious bedrooms was a treat. One in the basement and one upstairs, both with their own bathrooms (not ensuite). Beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows. The fixtures and fittings throughout were of high quality and the cottage was clean and comfortable. We did need to use the heating which kept it warm and cosy. Plenty of hot water. The kitchen and lounge might be snug for 4 adults, but still comfortable. Parking outside wasn't an issue. As mentioned in other reviews, it is a walk up hill to get home, but that is similar to many properties in Ambleside. The location was very convenient, a short walk to shops and restaurants. The addition of pocket torches provided in the kitchen was very welcomed as we hadn't brought any and the shoe drying rack was very effective in front of the radiator. The downstairs bedroom and kitchen have tiled floors so bring slippers. The only thing to note is no freezer. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider rebooking this property the next time we visit the Lake District.

Very clean, well equipped and appointed to a high standard. There was no rating on the booking website when we booked, I think due to it not having enough reviews yet. In our opinion it was 4.9 to 5 (out of 5). One of the best properties we have stayed at in Ambleside. Like many properties in Ambleside the location involves a hill, but if you are a walker then you will be fine.

We had a lovely long stay in August.

A really well equipped cottage with a great little outside area. The downstairs feels like a spa, the bathroom is fabulous. Both showers were excellent. The beds are extremely comfortable, the kitchen is really nice to cook in. Just a short walk in to the centre of Ambleside where there’s plenty of places to eat and get supplies. We had no trouble at all parking outside the cottage even though it’s on road parking. In summary lovely cottage, great location. We loved our stay.

A lovely traditional cottage from the outside, the interior is modern, fully and recently refurbished, with a well-equipped kitchen, smart TVs and fast broadband.

It is just a quiet 7 min walk to the centre of town and yes, uphill on the way back, but hills are why you are here, and the lane views more than compensate. The layout is excellent for sharers or a family – bedrooms are first floor and lower ground, allowing each privacy/separation, and each separately has a large modern bathroom, plus a storage/hanging area for the lower and a little desk/break-out room for the upper. On the ground floor between, the kitchen might be a little snug if four occupants suddenly wanted to cook at the same time, but the open lounge is plenty big enough for all (and has a Mere view!). The beds were very comfy with top quality bedding – this poor sleeper was out like the proverbial every night – zzz. If you haven’t had enough fresh air out walking, the lower ground floor opens onto a good-sized private patio with seating. There is no reserved parking, but this is a quiet lane away from the tourist hubbub - we got a space outside every day, and neighbours were friendly and accommodating. The cottage has an electric car charger – brilliant – there are not too many around Ambleside itself. Ambleside is, of course, fabulous, and this is a super cottage from which to enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Modern facilities combined with the charm you would expect from a traditional cottage. Maintained very well. Short walk into Ambleside centre. And on the walk to Sweden Bridge. Definitely worth staying and would highly recommend it.
