Fellcroft

We loved Fellcroft.

Beautiful location and views. All crockery, cutlery, bedding etc very clean. As we sadly had poor weather, better selection of games and books would be a good idea. I hope we can come again soon. Regarding Lakelovers. Online booking excellent, but when I had a small query it took some time to actually speak to an agent who then swiftly solved my pre-visit question. I would have appreciated a map showing exact location of property, and possibly of the surrounding area. However, a very enjoyable experience all round.

The property looks far, far better in person than it does in the pictures.

It's so spacious and everything is really well set up and thought out and also very nicely decorated and furnished throughout. This is in sight contrast to the pictures which I felt undersold it, giving it a slight air of being a bit tired -- which it wasn't at all! We've had many cherished stays in superb places in Ambleside and this was a cut-above the rest without being noticeably differently priced. Also, needless to say, the views from the windows over the town and mountains were absolutely breathtaking: the very best we've had. (And no photo could do it justice anyway!) The only mild criticism would be that when we arrived all of the soap dispensers had maybe one or two pumps of soap left. Whilst I know that soap isn't necessarily included in self catering places this is the first place we've found where this was actually the case and so came out a little off. (Especially considering the very high standard of absolutely everything else in the property).

The accommodation was excellent and well-maintained.

No complaints about that at all. One disappointment for us this time was that, after the water supply was cut off to this and many other local properties (United Utilities wa dealing with a leak at a local hotel), the local Lakelovers office was not able to give us any information about the situation, yet when we rang Unitied Utilities about it, they were able to give us a clearer idea about what was going on. The Ambleside Lakelovers staff said that they would bring water to our accommodation -- but they never did. We bought water from the local Tesco. Thankfully, the water supply returned later in the evening of the same day. There is one HUGE issue we have with Lakelovers. Your digital interface with customers is excellent; the website and the accommodation details are very clear. The problem is the almost complete lack of HUMAN INTERFACE with your cutomers. Trying to contact you by phone is almost impossible, and immensley frustrating. As the lady in the Ambleside office said to us after we tried to phone after the water-supply failure, the best thing to do is to come in person to the office -- but when customers have paid hundreds of pounds to you, this failure in communication is deeply discouraging and disappointing. The office staff cannot deal with bookings, or queries, or answer the phone, or help us in any way other than to arrange servicing for the accommodation. It is this failure of HUMAN INTERFACE with customers that makes us consider trying other holiday providers. We have phoned other Lake Distict holiday companies, and several have much better human interface than you do. When we have paid several hundred pounds, or over a thousand pounds, for a holiday in the Lakes, this leaves us feeling like sucker customers who are lttile more than fee-paying robots. In all other respects, we are very pleased with Lakelovers, and have been for years, but this failure in human interface makes us seriously consider changing provider.

Great location.

Easy to walk to Ambleside shops - but some would find it rather steep. Lovely to have the garden from which to enjoy the views over the hills and trees. Easy parking. Easy access to buses in all directions to save driving. Had everything in the house which I could need. Nice that a parking disc was also provided. A job for facilities was sorted the same morning. I enjoyed my stay.

Our family (2 adults 2 children) stayed here for a week and we were very pleased with Fellcroft.

The location was ideal as it was very close to the town but set back so that it was peaceful and there are amazing views from the living rooms and bedrooms. Great to have a parking space too. It was all very clean and comfortable, the shower was good and the kitchen appliances modern and draws well equipped. Only one suggestion that would have been appreciated based on experiences from other places we have stayed would be to provide some soap in the bathrooms.

Could not obtain "Freesat" but the normal TV worked using the Panasonic controller & on & off s/w was ok.

In the downstairs bedroom the socket outlet by the mirror was not working. We reported this to the Heart of the Lakes office & lack of Freesat. The weather was very hot & a TV in the downstairs lounge(cooler than upstairs) would have been most welcome. We had a great time & again have booked Fellcroft for next year.

Everything was as expected ,we came last year and it was just as good this year .

Everywhere was clean and tidy and the views were fantastic .It is so close to the town centre . althogh the short climb up from there is a bit steep . The cost was very reasonable for the accomodation we had . Many thanks for all your efforts Regards John R Mountford

Fellcroft is really well situated and has the most amazing views.

We have stayed twice now and will stay again for those reasons. However, it really needs a deep clean. There are splashes of dirt above both bathroom sinks upstairs. The window frames need cleaning. The valance on one of the single beds is incredibly dusty. The terrace at the back needs a good sweep. The shower upstairs has mould spots. The gap between the cushions on the sofa is full of crumbs. Some of the light bulbs didn't work. It's generally very grubby which is a real shame.

Great venue for exploring the central lakes.

Excellent access to Ambleside, even though it is up the hill! Brilliant venue, I am sure we will be back.

The TV did work best on "Free Sat" once we discovered that BBC1 was 101 on "Free Sat" BBC2 was 102 etc as described in the TV programme guide. 2. The position of the mirror & picture in upstairs bedroom should be reversed i.e with the mirror at lower level over top of drawers & the picture hung at the mirror's former position, for the convenience of the ladies.

Good property , position : v easy to get into Ambleside good parking, views excellent Linen ,towels ,kitchen ,bathroom all great Single beds very soft mattresses!

We had a lovely stay at Fellcroft, a home from home.

Excellent location, close to lots of walks and the town centre. Beautiful views as well.

The accomodation was first class , it was a short though steep climb back from the town centre .

The views through the windows were fantastic . The property is central for most walks and we walked the local area of Loughrigg and Rydal without using the car which saved the excessive parking fees . I would not hesitate to book this place again ,it certainly added to our holiday enjoyment . Regards J .R . Mountford .

Fellcroft is beautifully situated, extremely comfortable with all the facilities you would want.

The view from the lounge is simply stunning. We will return.

A nice relaxing break again Thank you to the guys who came out to repair the Sani flow pump.

The main bed mattresses (2 pushed together) right hand side was sloping inwards and the left mattress was slightly elevated upwards.

The Saniflow toilet downstairs also caused a minor sewage smell throughout. Location was great but comfort and cleanliness could be improved.

1) The downstairs bedroom did not have a mirror although there appeared to be a fixing for one.

2) The upstairs had one but it was not fixed to wall. 3) The television reception seemed to crack up @ times. 4) The main electrical switch in the cupboard for c/h & water heating was off was when we arrived. Difficult to see s/w because a mop bucket was concealing it.Once found & switched on heating water & radiators fine, once we discovered that the auto programme was no good & to select manual at the thermostat/programmer & then boiler mode @ the boiler in the cupboard.

Loved staying at Fellcroft with its fantastic views and proximity to the food shops.

A lovely place with fantastic views over Ambleside.

Perfect for a few days away from it all: nestled just above the town centre, with pubs, restaurants, shops and great walks on the doorstep.

We had a wonderful stay in this well equipped property.

Good to have lots of cutlery and crockery etc. to be able to run the dishwasher when full. The views are amazing, and we were lucky enough to have excellent weather for the full week! Rather steep walking back up to the property after walking the Fairfield Horseshoe! We will be back!

The house was great.

Great location close to town but yet quiet. The view from the windows are amazing. Beds were generally comfortable. It's bonus to have a separate shower room.

We have stayed many times at fellcroft and find it a gem of a holiday cottage but sadly this year we feel disappointed with heart of the lakes.

/ Sykes cottages Back in February we reported the tumble dryer wasn’t working to which we were reassured a new part would be ordered. However, arriving again in august we found the same problem with the dryer. The main office was contacted again to which we were informed ‘we will phone you straight back’. We didn’t get a return call so called in to the local office at Ambleside. The maintenance team said they would call to the property to which they did and left a message with another family member saying they had got the serial number for the washer dryer. However, we did not get another call from HOL during the holiday period. Being Avid swimmers we choose a cottage with the facilities of having a washer/dryer. Due to the unpredictable Lake District weather you cannot guarantee you can dry washing outside or have the facilities to do so. Fortunately for us we had an exceptional week of good weather to dry towels outside on the airer We are returning to the property in the Autumn and hope this issue will be rectified . If you advertise the property of having a washer /dryer then please make sure the facilities work . This is what we are paying for. Thank you

1) When first switching on the TV on channels BBC1 & 2 the digital picture kept breaking up.

It didn,t seem to happen on other channels & BBC1&2 eventually settled down.I tried to install the satellite system as per instructions but this seems not to be working. 2) The towl holder in the small toilet at the top of the stairs juts out too much & its quite easy to bump your head on it, I did it twice! 3) The Lakeside parking areas are a problem particularly the one nearest the entrance, regardless of the sign they invariably park in the entrance making a difficult entrance even more difficult! Do you really think there,s room for 3?

Brilliant!

We chose Fellcroft because of its location and because of the view from the window. The property met all our expetations, and the view out of the window was even better than we expected. There was plenty of room for parking. It is an easy short walk into the heart of Ambleside from the flat. The accommodation was everything we needed for a week's relaxing holiday. We'll be back!

Lovely property.

Very clean and welcoming. Great location and lovely views. Near to Ambleside and lots of walks but in a quiet location. No complaints at all. We did miss a hairdryer and had to bring out own wok, but. Other than that it was extremely well equipped.

Great place to stay Just a little point that the cleaning could be done a little better eg.

the dish washer was full and the we had to clean the inside of the lounge window as it was smeary

We've recently had a lovely week at Fellcroft.

The house is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped and well stocked with crockery, pans cutlery etc. The layout of the house is perfect for a family or 2 couples with a bath/shower room, bedroom and lounge on each floor. The location is excellent with a footpath at the end of the road you can walk into the centre of Ambleside in under 5 minutes. Finally, the views from the property are simply amazing. What a pleasure being in a lovely comfortable house with fantastic views of Ambleside and the fells.

Some confusion over the location - Troutbeck??

We really enjoyed our stay and the views are fabulous.

We have stayed there before and I feel the parking is now somewhat compromised by the decking area. We had two large cars so the front of one overhung the next door property slightly but luckily no-one complained. It would also be helpful if there was a bit more information about recycling as it seems like everything has to go in the one bin. We hope to return again before too long.

I love the view from the lounge window.

For us it was superb, couldn't be better.
