    “The house was just as described and was well maintained.”

    There was everything required for a perfect stay. Great touches like Door hooks & places to dry wet clothes, plus an outside porch with a seat. We really enjoyed our stay. The bed was cosy & very big. We struggled a bit to open the garage door as it is getting a bit old. Our Audi A3 fitted in ok, it was a bit tight to get out of the car though. We would definitely visit again. The location is great & the directions were very clear. An easy walk into Ambleside, a bit uphill on the return. The ...

The things listed on other reviews were all there, e.g. Washing up liquid. The fantastic house information guide was excellent. The bins were not emptied during our visit, so maybe the instructions were not quite clear.

The property

Merry Bank is an attractive and contemporary townhouse with restful Scandinavian styling, situated in the beautiful lake and river-side town of Ambleside; a fantastically convenient location for walkers, cyclists, swimmers and sailors.

The house has been decorated and equipped to maximize comfort and convenience.

It offers a garage for one car, a front lawn with bench and an enclosed patio to the rear for al fresco dining.

Merry Bank is in a very quiet and slightly elevated location but remarkably it is only a 5 minute leisurely stroll alongside the lovely Stock Ghyll into the heart of Ambleside with its many options for eating, shopping and cultural activities.

This property is ideal for friends, or two couples looking for a base in the heart of the Lake District.

There are multiple classic walks that can be undertaken from the front door- climb to Wansfell Pike and loop down to Lake Windermere via Troutbeck, venture up to Red Screes or walk through Ambleside to Rydal Water or over Loughrigg fell to the beautiful and secluded Loughrigg Tarn or down to Grasmere.

You really don’t need your car once you are here!

After a day of adventure return home and step into the light and airy open-plan living space, with large comfortable sofa seating, stylish dining table and modern kitchen fully equipped for all your cooking or baking needs.

Relax after supper for a movie marathon or game of Lake District Monopoly.

When sleep calls, freshen up in the bathroom with a warm soak in the tub or a relaxing shower, before settling down into one of the two well-presented bedrooms.

Choose between two luxurious Hypnos bed options - one a super-king-size which can be set up as a twin on request, and the other a regular king-size.

The bedrooms have plenty of storage for all your belongings.

If you fancy a low-key day then Ambleside has a plethora of delightful independent shops to browse at your leisure, handy convenience stores, and excellent restaurants, cafés, and pubs for delightful meals out.

In addition to the local hikes and cycle routes available, Ambleside is on Lake Windermere, which offers kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding and wild swimming spots as well as boat tours.

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
