“We enjoyed our stay at Silver How; it was very spacious, comfy and had nearly everything we needed.”

It was well located for Ambleside and Waterhead, whilst being quiet and private. You do have to bring your own dishcloths, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, hand soap, tea towels and oven gloves. It was well located for Ambleside and Waterhead, whilst being quiet and private. You do have to bring your own dishcloths, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, hand soap, tea towels and oven gloves. Whilst most places we’ve stayed in suggest this is a possibility, they usually provide something to get you started so we thought this was a bit stingy. The information about what to do with rubbish, recycling etc. was out of date (there was an info pack from when it was listed with another company and was specific to their procedures) so I had to ring for more info. Some of the lightbulbs had gone and need replacing and there’s evidence of a leak from the ceiling onto the wall on the landing. There were also no keys for the windows; specifically, the one in the twin room above a window seat could be opened fully - which is not reassuring when you have children, so it would have been good to have some kind safety mechanism on there.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We're really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Silver How and appreciated the spacious layout, comfort, and peaceful location close to Ambleside and Waterhead — it's lovely to know the property met your expectations in so many ways. We’re sorry the Welcome Cleaning Pack may not have been provided during your visit. This is something we include as a starter pack, and we’ll be following up with our housekeeping manager to ensure its consistently in place. We understand that under self-catering stays guests bring their own supplies, but we aim to offer a few essentials to help get you started. Thank you also for pointing out the outdated rubbish and recycling information — this has will be updated. Your comments regarding maintenance and window safety have been noted for further investigation. We really appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

A traditional Lakeland House with two well-presented bedrooms sleeping up to four people, Silver How is one of five exclusive properties originally built in a Victorian hamlet and set in a tranquil location mid-way between Ambleside and Waterhead alongside Lake Windermere.

The property is furnished in a contemporary style with carefully chosen colours and fabrics and affords an exceptional feeling of opulence.

You will find your named parking space at the end of the long private drive, making your way to the covered entrance porch.

Hang your outdoor clothes in the entrance hall, then walk into your stunning L-shaped open-plan living space.

Relax in the stylish sitting area with exposed brickwork and grey sofas, catching up on a good book in a space filled with warmth and unique personality.

Discover an attractive dining room and modern, fully-equipped kitchen, ideal for cooking up a storm and enjoying a heart-warming meal, or alternatively take a drink onto the south facing patio to sit and unwind as you look out to the lovely scenery set before you in a garden ideal for an alfresco affair.

Two charming bedrooms encourage you to get cosy for the night, after refreshing in the family bathroom, with a choice between a king-size with a handy en-suite, and a twin bedroom.

Walk to the Ambleside and browse the independent shops and enjoy one of its excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs or set off in the opposite direction to Waterhead to enjoy a cruise on beautiful Lake Windermere.

From here guests can picnic on the shore, try out wild swimming or hire a boat to explore its secluded bays.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
