The property

Silverhow Cottage is a traditional 18th century Lakeland terraced cottage, located a stone's throw from the heart of picturesque Ambleside village.

Entering through the front door, you will be welcomed by the warmth of the wooden interior with bespoke artwork to appreciate.

The living/dining room has a Smart TV and a selection of books to keep you entertained and toasty with the electric fire display, as you share some stories about the day around the dining room table.

The kitchen combines traditional and contemporary with the original stone floor and amenities like a dishwasher to ease your stay, you can open up the rustic stable doors to the quaint courtyard, and there is also access down to the cellar through the kitchen, (just mind your head on the way down) here you will find a table tennis table perfect for keeping children entertained.

Upstairs, you'll find even more captivating artwork, including pieces created by the owners themselves.

This level also features a well-appointed bathroom with both a shower and a bathtub, as well as a separate toilet and basin.

The bedrooms are bright and cosy, with a double room, twin and a sleek Scandinavian-style bunk bed to choose from.

There is a designated parking spot, so once the car is parked up you can visit Rydal Cave, it may entail some stepping-stones, climbing, and hiking, but the reward will be magical.

For a relaxing day, walk into the centre of the village to find excellent restaurants, cafés and pubs to dine in for an afternoon treat, or walk into beautiful Rothay Park and picnic by the river.

You will find The Golden Rule pub close by where you can enjoy a traditional Lakeland ale next to the open fire.

Pull on your boots and walk up nearby Todd Crag to be rewarded with panoramic views of Lake Windermere, or walk up to lovely Wansfell Pike and then onto the picturesque village of Troutbeck.

Challenge yourself to a hike around the acclaimed Fairfield Horseshoe, with plenty more choice of many wonderful trails whether it’s a low-level circular route or an adventurous hike up to the high fells.

Play tennis and bowls at the recreation ground next door, or head down to Waterhead and catch a cruise on gorgeous Lake Windermere taking in the stunning scenery from the waters.

If the weather isn’t ideal, then why not visit Lakes Aquarium with the option to take the scenic steam train there and enjoy seeing the adorable otters and the fascinating ant colony.

Silverhow Cottage provides a homely retreat to explore The Lakes.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside with its numerous shops makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips, and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and the lakeside at Waterhead with parkland offering lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach. A walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre. Ambleside has plenty of restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes from great fish & chips to its two Michelin Star restaurants and all tastes in between are catered for.
