The property

Violet Cottage is a wonderful mid-terrace cottage nestled in Ambleside, Cumbria.

Violet Cottage is an excellent option for two people or a small family because of its convenient location in the Lake District National Park, just a few feet from the shore of the world-famous Lake Windermere.

On the inside, you'll discover a inviting sitting area with a TV, a woodburning stove, and plush seating, perfect for unwinding after a long day; a well-appointed kitchen, where you can whip up your favourite foods; and a dining area with space for four.

You can unwind with a bath at the end of the day or get a quick rinse under the overhead shower in the sleek bathroom located on the second floor.

There are two bedrooms available, two doubles, both of which are attractively designed and feature front and rear views. Make use of the lovely rear patio garden area, perfect for relaxing with a drink after a day of wandering the fells.

There is also a bench to the front, where you can sit and enjoy the view across Ambleside and to the mountains beyond. Check out Fellinis, Copper Pot, and The Old Stamp House for some tasty eats; stop by the convenience store, the Armitt Library and Museum, and the breathtaking 70-foot Stock Ghyll Force; and learn about Roman occupation in the area at the interesting Roman Fort, which dates back to the 2nd-century.

Nearby, you may also explore Rydal, where you can climb through the breath-taking manmade Rydal Cave and visit Rydal Mount & Gardens, or continue on to Grasmere, where you can tour the former home of William Wordsworth.

The next destination is Windermere, where you can try your hand at a range of watersports on Lake Windermere, take in the scenery from atop Queen Adelaide's Hill, play a round of golf at the world-class Windermere Golf Club, and dine on fresh seafood at Hooked.

You can also visit Keswick, which is home to the Derwent Pencil Museum and the Theatre By The Lake, as well as the Keswick Museum.

Violet Cottage has this and much more in store for you.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Please note: The property features steps down to the Kitchen and up onto the first floor. The main staircase is curved and features tapering style steps which may be suitable for those with limited mobility.
