Well situated.

Good off road car parking. Very comfortable accomodation. Great neighbours!

Every thing was as described , but a much bigger tv than we expected from the photo.

Great location close to town centre and shops with own parking space. Appleby is a lovely town . Easy access for Lakes and North Yorks too but we found lots of interesting places close by such as castles, gardens and Neolithic stones. We enjoyed Kirby Stephen and Sedbergh too. This area is not like Windermere with its shopping areas. We found lots of small business selling interesting goods and crafts closed early or looked like they never opened…

Great location comfortable cottage Appleby is a lovely friendly place

Cottage was perfect for our 3 night stay - very well equipped, especially nice to have tea, biscuits and milk waiting for us on arrival.

The property was very clean, well located for a wander around Appleby and so useful to have our own parking space. The weather didn't lend itself to using the outside space but looked very inviting!

Blacksmith cottage was a pleasant little cottage for a short stay in Appleby.

Although small it was very clean and cosy and the outside seating area and garden gave extra space to enjoy in the good weather. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

There was an unpleasant smell in the lounge and also in the kitchen.

The furnishings looked as though they were cast-offs and they overfilled the small lounge. The bathroom was the only positive to this property.

Very well equipped. Comfy bed, hot shower, WiFi, dog friendly garden. Small things, like accessible sockets, coat hooks, plenty of clothes hangers (because some of us don't pack lightly

Absolutely wonderful cottage to stay at thanks to all of the attention to detail and care put in by the owners.

It's easy to get to, has convenient offroad parking and the town centre is within walking distance. There's such a friendly atmosphere in Appleby too! As a return visitor I can highly recommend the cottage (and it's owners) to anyone looking for a great retreat.

Great place to stay very comfortable had all our needs.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage.

We travelled up by train and the cottage is only a short distance from the station. Well placed for all amenities and local walks, a lovely quiet spot with a pretty garden. My partner wants me to mention the quality of the kitchen knives ,he finds it rare to find this standard of kitchen equipment - not forgetting the supporting role of an exceptional frying pan, so it made his stay!

The cottage was as described. We had lovely weather for the time of year. Gill & Andy where lovely hosts very informative and friendly people. The only minor concern was no lighting on the concrete steps. We will definitely be going again for a short break.

It has everything we need and a recent installation of a walk in shower only made it better. Not a complaint but a grab rail in the shower would help people a little less steady on their feet. I repeat not complaining. great value, great location, a very attractive village full of friendly people. Plenty to entertain you in the area, just get out there.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

The owners have made it a cosy haven which gives you everything you need for a perfect getaway. Appleby is a friendly town and the cottage is very handy for walks along the river. Easy access to the lakes and dales gives you the best of both worlds. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Clean, comfy and well equipped cottage in a quiet but central location.

Superb newly installed walk in shower in bathroom. Nice garden and seating area. Pleasant and friendly owners. Appleby has a variety of pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops including two good butchers. Would recommend without hesitation.

We enjoyed our stay at Blacksmith Cottage.

It was clean, cosy and very comfortable, the bed being one of the most comfortable we've slept in. It is well equipped with everything we needed and had the added bonus of it's own off road parking space which we noticed many of the other cottages we looked at hadn't. It's well located just off the centre of town so only a few minute walk to all the amenities. Gill and Andy, the owners, live next door and were very friendly, there if we needed help but at the same time respected our privacy. We loved the town of Appleby-in-Westmoorland and hope to return.

Nice cottage, good location.

Very clean, nice secure garden for our dog( Sprockerpoo…Dylan ) with ample seating area. Appleby has lots of good local walks, the amenities are also good, the locals are very friendly. Easy access to the lakes and North Yorkshire moors. *****

One of the cleanest cottages we have stayed in, it was spotless and well equipped, welcome pack on arrival is a nice touch, lots of information not rules, very well placed for walking into the village and surrounding areas, had a lovely week, everyone in the village is friendly too.

I don't usually write reviews but I thought the Blacksmith Cottage deserved some praise.

I stayed here a week and was totally relaxed and comfortable the whole time. Andy and Gill are brilliant hosts attentive and friendIy. I found the king-sized bed very comfortable and the cottage had everything I needed for my stay. The smart TV worked well and I even used my5 to catch up on some missed episodes of Dalgliesh. Phone signal into the cottage was just enough to make voice calls but not for internet use. However the broadband in the cottage was excellent with good fast speeds. I made use of the thoughtfully provided tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and milk. All super clean and nothing seemed too much trouble to ask of these excellent hosts. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it.

We were very much looking forward to a break away and Blacksmith Cottage provided everything we needed.

Clean, cosy and comfortable, lovely hosts who were very welcoming and unobtrusive. Appleby is a delightful place and we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Would return without a doubt.

Great time lovely place

This is my third visit to Blacksmith's Cottage and it is a wonderful and comfortable property.

Brilliantly situated a few yards from the town centre and close to some great walks with the dog, it is a great place to relax and recharge the batteries. Andy and Gill are great hosts - they are friendly and approachable but not at all intrusive. Appleby had nice pubs and restaurants, a great place to stay. I will be back.

We enjoyed our stay very much.

Met Andy on arrival and was friendly but not intrusive.The cottage is comfortable and everything catered for. It is very much near the centre of Appleby with plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and a tourist information centre too. Local walks around about as well as being on boarders with Lake District and Yorkshire for walks and exploring further afield by car, bus or train. It was a lovely relaxing break, very picturesque and we hope to return again. Thank you

Location in the town had everything you needed within walking distance, and cottage was spacious and well equipped.

Owner very friendly and non-intrusive. Unfortunately there was constant road noise at night and early in the mornings (car doors banging, people walking by and 6.20am Saturday had scaffolding being taken down by builders across the road). This was mainly due to single glazing and the bedrooms at the front of the property, which disturbed our sleep greatly. The cottage should have double glazing which would block out a lot of the noise.

Situated in the heart of Appleby for all amenities and lovey walks without having to use your car. Also central for the North Lakes, Yorkshire and Boarders.

The next door owners are lovely and there if needed but not intrusive. The garden was ideal and our little dog enjoyed it too. Would recommend.

In a nutshell, a lovely cottage with all the homely comforts & facilities you'd require and situated in a picturesque, laid-back town on the banks of the Eden.

The hosts were very welcoming & laid the base for a gorgeous week in Cumbria, exploring dale, lakes & coast, all within easy proximity. The town itself offers a number of eating & drinking options all close at hand. We will be booking again.

This cottage is a hidden gem, most people looking for a cottage would swip past this one as at first glance it's a mid terrace rendered cottage.

However once you pull into the street that is lined with graid 2 listed buildings you get the feeling your in a lovely relaxing place. The cottage has space for parking your car outside the door. Once inside you have a comfortable, clean 2 bed cottage that has everything you will need for your stay. If you want to stay in and cook you will find everything you need from whipping up an omelette to creating a 3 course evening meal. A lot of properties say they are dog friendly when they actually just put a dog bowl out and think that's enough. The owners have their own dog and have really made this a holiday for your fury friend aswell. The garden is a stunning terrace, you step out on to a covered section then a set of steps takes you to the first level where you have a table and chairs and a swinging seat. Venture up to the second level your met with a lovely small green lawn and a stunning Japanese maple leaf tree. The garden is west facing so when the sun comes out its a little slice of heaven. Venture out into the village of Appleby your met with stunning architecture and walks, lovely shops, coffee shops and a couple of very nice pubs. The location of Appleby is ideal to explore Cumbria and the lakes. The owner lives next-door, there a lovely salt of the earth couple that gave us a very warm welcome, we have saved this one in our favourite list so are planning on a return visit. Thanks to Andy and Gill for a lovely relaxing break.

Wonderful from start - great welcome with tea, coffee, cake plus milk & water in fridge.

Cottage contained everything for a very comfortable stay. Owners always available if needed. Great base camp with train station close by. Definitely worth a stay.

An excellent little cottage and the property owners were very friendly and helpful.

Everything you need is provided and the cottage is in a lovely location with a variety of pubs/hotels serving delicious food nearby. Our cocker spaniel loved his stay with plenty of walks close to the cottage. I would thoroughly recommend the cottage and would visit again.

The Blacksmiths Cottage is well located and has everything you need to enjoy your stay, the garden is a virtual suntrap.

A very nice clean little cottage, a well kept garden which was used when the sun came out of hiding very useful being able to park so close to the property.

All in all a very comfortable stay and would recommend.

Lots of nice little extras The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble not that we needed anything anyway. The town is lovely as we're the 2 pubs we went in. The food was very good at the Crown and Cushion especially Sunday lunch. It's a great base for visits to Ulswater and Penrith. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Our son found the spare bed a bit small for him but he's a six foot 18 yr old so no surprise lol .

Excellent location away from the crowds of main Lake District resorts.

Cottage very comfortable with all amenities expected and perfect for a couple with a dog. Owners (and their little dog) live in adjoining property and have fenced off pleasant garden area for use with this cottage. Very short walk to park to exercise dog off lead, riverside walk and to Crown and Cushion which is dog friendly with good pub quality food. Would recommend a visit to Hutton in the Forest which is dog friendly (on lead) with shady walk through woodland.

Third visit to this cottage in appleby, will be going again.

Quiet location, lovely garden, 2 minutes from high street, pubs, butchers, grocers, spar, etc. Still plenty to see and do, there is a gym and swimming pool, amazing scenery all round. Looking forward to next year. Gill and Andy are friendly and have great local knowledge, buddy the dog is pretty nice too! My dog likes him.

Very convieniently situated 2 minutes walk ftom the town.

Cleanliness was of the highest standard and the cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Off road parking was important as there are parking restrictions in Doomgate. Good walks from the property particularly along the Rive Eden. Good local shops and plenty of pubs and eateries. Owners live next door and were always on hand if needed without being intrusive. Would gladly use Blacksmith's cottage again.

Close to nature reserve and castles. Short drive from the lakes. Owners were friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful week even if the weather didn’t want to be kind.. hoping to return next year. Clean, comfortable all I could wish for.

Everything was better than expected.

Location was great just a short stroll from the town & the riverside walks. Comfortable inside, not the biggest down stairs space but enough, for 3 people. Kitchen well equipped and everything worked./ Outside the raised garden area & patio area with table & chairs plus a swing seat were great. Friendly owners next door, none intrusive but there if anything needed Excellent stay, we will hope to stay again

Very comfortable cottage in a stunning little town, conveniently placed for shops, pubs and a beautiful scenic walk around the river.

The cottage had everything we required and the owners, ( next door), were friendly and available if required but not intrusive. We would certainly go back!

Lovely cosy little cottage more than adequate for a couple.

Very handy for the centre of Appleby and easy walk to the local hostelries . Short walk along the river and back just right for our

owners welcoming but not intrusive and the cottage was immaculate.

One double room and one single and huge bathroom . The tiered rear garden was lovely but has steps to reach it river was a 5 min walk away with one bank having a tarmac path which leads to the town and the other bank to a wooded area. The surrounding country side is gorgeous. We would recommend this cottage and will certainly add it to our "return to" list of cottages wall family stayed 11-14 October 2019

Everything you need to make your week complete. Second time we've stayed at this cottage and definitely go back again. Central for the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District.

This cottage is very central for all amenities and very well equipped, The owners very very helpful.

My wife is disabled and uses a motorbility scooter, there is a covered area at the back of house for storage which we found very helpful and every pavement in the town had slopes for easy access. The walks around the river are very good or picnics and well preserved, would recommend.

Beautiful garden to sit out. Handy for being near town centre for the shops and pubs but a quiet little haven back at the cottage.

We felt at home straight away. Will definitely be back next year. There are lots of villages close by to discover with cafes and pubs that accept dogs and serve good food. The walk along the river is so peaceful, otters if your very lucky. A couple of very good butchers, greengrocers and of course the bakery.

The location to the town was just right away from the hubbub.

Garden was very well tended. Shops in town excellent good variety. Owners very friendly, nice cake! Easy access to the surrounding areas. In fact so good we're going again can't wait.

I lost my beautiful Doberman, Toby, aged 10 years 9 months, on 27th December, to lymphoma while staying at the cottage.

The owner, Mr Forrester, who lives next door, was a marvelous man who's help and kindness during this awful event will be remembered all my life.

It has everything you need. We were there during the Beast from the East, so cold, but the cottage was warm and snug. We would love to go back in the summer.

We had a wonderful holiday in Blacksmiths Cottage.

The cottage was extremely clean and very cosy. We had everything we needed, and the owners of the cottage, who live next door, made sure we knew that if we needed any assistance, they were on hand to help. The owners weren’t at all intrusive though - we saw them on the day we arrived and the day we left. They are very friendly and approachable. Appleby is a lovely town, with a historic church which is well worth a visit. There are local shops for anything you need, including a Spar and a Co-op. The local chip shop is very good, as is the local bakery. Lowther Castle is well worth a visit (about half an hour away), and the waterfall at Rutter Force is beautiful. If you have a dog, there is a great circular walk down by the river Eden. We even spotted a couple of red squirrels (which we don’t have in Scotland). All in all, a perfect cottage and a great wee holiday. We would highly recommend it.
