An amazing cottage, we had a wonderful 5 days exploring the Lakes and this was a great base!

Owners were very welcoming and the cottage was spotless and cosy, the bed was super comfortable! The cakes and flapjacks were a lovely welcoming touch, we'd definitely recommend to all and will rebook if we come this way again!

The property was very clean and had all that you could need for a short or long stay. The owners are lovely and are on hand if needed. An ideal location for access to Windermere, Coniston, Ambleside and Kendal. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Your instructions to the cottage can be significantly improved if you indicate the approximate distances between different landmarks. Also we do not pass through anything we recognise as a farm on the way to the cottage.

Rusland View is a lovelly cottage, very comfortable and very nicely furnished, it really feels like home.

Every need is catered for, It was very clean. On arrival we found a welcome pack, milk, tea bags,coffee, sugar and some cake, what more could you want. The directions to get to the cottage were very clear and easy to follow. Ann & David are very welcoming and helpful. Hope to back sometime.

This is a lovely cottage nestled into the heart of the lake district.

Plenty to do and not far to drive for most of it. We went up Helvellyn, sliding edge and drove down to the Dungeon Ghyll old pub for a nice pint afterwards. Just fantastic all round. The owners of the cottage, Anne and David, are both lovely people. Nice to chat to. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely place to be in a beautiful area

Rusland View is a small self contained comfortable, very clean and traditionally furnished 1 bedroom cottage adjacent to the owners property (a former farm).

It is located in a quiet rural valley with good road access to Windermere, Coniston and the Furness Penninsula. It is extremely peaceful and secluded (the bird song there is a real joy). The owners Anne and David are very welcoming and are available to assist with any queries but not intrusive. It is a perfect site for walkers and those who wish to escape the busier areas of the Lake District. There is a fabulous area for sitting out on warmer evenings to the rear of the accommodation and a parking place directly by the entrance to the property. There is Internet connectivity but be aware this is a rural location so city connectivity speeds may not be achievable at all times. Larger supermarkets are in nearby Ulverston. Anne provided a generous welcome pack with home made cake, tea/coffee and toiletries in both the bathroom and downstairs toilet. This was exactly the type of property we enjoy staying in and we would be more than happy to make a return stay and recommend the property

Wonderful quiet location but easy access to anywhere in the Lakes. Great pubs nearby and lots of walking options. The property was very clean and had everything required. Would certainly return.

We had a wonderful stay in this superb property.

From the very start, our hosts Anne and David were so welcoming. They had provided milk and tea for our arrival, and some delicious homemade shortbread, plus some doggy treats for our ShihTzu Lady. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The living room was so cosy with its log burner. The bed was comfortable and the power shower was wonderful. We will be back next year Carol & Keith

The only problem I had was not having internet.

Yes my things stated "connected but without internet". I did tell the male that owned the place, but it did not ruin anything I just adapted.

Lovely property with great ownes on hand should you need them (we didn't apart from a chat).

We loved our week's stay in Rusland View - the location was very peaceful and quiet, the cottage was cosy and the kitchen very well-equipped.

We had a friendly welcome, and appreciated the welcome package especially the tasty cakes. The bed was really comfortable and we loved the log burner - thanks for the logs. Overall, we had a relaxing, comfortable and stress-free stay at the cottage. Thank you for your hospitality.

After a horrendous 7 hour journey we arrived at rusland view & were warmly greeted by Anne who kindly made us welcome with a nice cup of tea & allowed us to relax in the lovely garden while she finished making ready our accommodation ( we arrived early).

Very comfortable, clean & well equipped cottage. With lovely walks right on the doorstep & further afield with beautiful scenery & views. High dam in particular ( take your swimwear) The Internet was off more than it was on with a download speed at best of only 1.66 mbps, so very slow. This can be a problem if you are someone who likes browsing or streaming on their devices. This is the only reason we give it four stars & not five. All in all, we had a lovely relaxing week & would stay here again if we visit this area in the future.

Hosts went beyond the call of duty to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Little touches go a long way - i. e. fresh flowers on the dining table; homemade cake, mmmmm!We loved the cottage gardens/seating areas/ good variety of both bird and insect loving plants. A lot of thought has gone into these. Would definitely book this cottage again.

We felt very comfortable here, at home as soon as we arrived.

The location is beautiful. Some great walks directly from the cottage. They can be as strenuous or as easy as you like. I personally like making up my own routes. We would have liked a secure outdoor area for the dogs to mooch about in without us standing over them. If you need internet then WiFi can be a bit hit and miss. Our hosts, Anne and Dave left us to get on with what we were doing but were always on hand if needed.

Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings,clean, well equipped, lovely bedding and towels etc, WiFi hit and miss but it didn't spoil our break,weather perfect for walks with our dog who loved the countryside,the cakes and dog biscuits were a lovely touch, perfect little holiday

Beautiful cottage and ideally situated.

Very rural but at the same time, not too far to get to so many lovely destinations. This was our first visit to the Lake District and it didn't disappoint, and to have such a lovely cottage to come home to was perfect. It was very well stocked with everything you could need and the lovely cakes and flowers were a great welcome, and milk in the fridge. David was a friendly host and very willing to help out when needed.

We really enjoyed our stay at Rusland View, peaceful, quiet lanes and fields.

Ideally situated for getting around and plenty of walking or just browsing around the small towns and villages. Everything was supplied by the owners, the cottage has a homely feel and so close to Christmas it had table decs and a Christmas tree, plus Christmas cake.

Rusland View is a perfect haven of luxury in the beautiful and peaceful Rusland Valley .

It has everything you need including a cosy wood burning stove at the end of the day and a delightful welcome tea tray from the lovely owners.

The property was so beautiful and in such a lovely area with great views.

David and Anne made us very welcome and were available if we needed them. The special touches like the scones and jam and the lovely arrangement of flowers just added to our holiday. It was great to do both local walks from the cottage as well as going further afield. The cottage is situated in a lovely peaceful valley.

I booked this cottage for my mothers 70th birthday in July.

They found the cottage absolutely beautiful. The location, peacefulness and tranquility was something they said was most impressive. It is the best stay they have had in the lakes and would certainly go again.

The cottage exceeded all our expectations.

It was comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Theres was plenty of nearby walks for our dogs with Grizedale, Coniston and Windermere easy to reach. There are tight narrow lanes to navigate, so just take your time! July 24

A beautiful traditional cottage in rural setting in what was old Lancashire.

Beautifully maintained and comfortable. Very handy for the honey pots of the Lake District and many country walks from the cottage. Ideal for a couple and pet friendly. Will be returning without doubt. Congratulations to owner who we did not meet on this occasion. They have really excelled in amenities. Thankyou.

We were well looked after by Anne and Dave, the cottage was clean, well presented and well equipped. There was a very useful information file highlighting local walks and places to eat. To cap it all there were excellent home made cakes on arrival.

Lovely hidden away location, with wildlife by river and swifts flying high.

Lovely cottage, would definitely go back and stay again.

Great holiday in a lovely little well equipped cottage in a nice quiet spot in South Lakes, but still within easy reach of towns/villages and close to Lake Windermere and Coniston Water.

The owners are next door if needed but leave you to it. We have already booked to go back again.

We found the property well equipped, easy for parking on site and cosy.

Ideal for two people max. An excellent base for 'getting away from it all' and for walking in the southern Lakes. Loads of superb pub options for evening meals. Nearest shops etc around 15 mins drive away (Newby Bridge) down delightful country lanes. Would highly recommend a stay in this lovely setting.

Our second stay at Rusland and we were not disappointed.

The cottage is lovely and so well equipped. Anne and David are great and helpful if we needed anything. One comment is thanks for the clean oven again! So often I find in holdiaday cottages that the ovens are not clean and it is disappointing. So thank you for maintaing your high standards of cleanliness. We will be back again hopefully in 2025 as the cottage suits us very well.

A lovely property in a lovely location. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and the stay, though only for a few days, was relaxing and peaceful which was exactly what we were looking for. The dog enjoyed herself as well!

The owners were very helpful when there was an issue with the shower. Just don't attempt the lane right outside the cottage as short cut to Hawkshead....unless you have a 4x4 and nerves of steel! I would stay here again, a hidden corner of the Lakes. Would recommend the Greenwood trails walking leaflets in the cottage to explore further

We had a lovely stay at Rusland View.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable it has a lovely wood burner which we didn’t get to use because the weather was really warm for our stay but i can imagine on a winters night how cosy it would be. The owners who live next door were very pleasant and helpful. we live on the Yorkshire Wolds and are used to Rural but Rusland View is very Rural with very narrow roads leading to it. It wasn’t a problem for us because you just have to drive very carefully. and the area around the cottage was lovely we had some lovely walks. The only thing that would put us off staying again was the very poor wi-fi. I know if you’re on your holidays you shouldn’t need to rely on wi-fi but you absolutely do these days. we need to keep in touch with elderly relatives etc when we away. The wi-fi was so poor it wouldn’t even let us access emails at times so we had to make sure that was all done before we returned to the cottage at night. We did mention it to the owners who rebooted the modem at their end and it made it slightly better but nothing like we would expect. All in all it was excellent and apart from the wi-fi would be happy to give it 10 out of 10.

My husband , I and our dog stayed in this cosy little cottage for a week.

On arrival Anne showed us around explained how to work the showers and other things. Also Anne had left us some milk and home made cake and flapjack , which was delicious.We Loved the log burner which we lit on the wet day/night during our stay. The cottage was clean and tidy and very comfortable for the three of us. We enjoyed our trips out to the high dam ,bowness, Barrow and walney island. I did find the roads around the area a little tricky but would definitely go back

We thought the cottage was lovely and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

It was clean and tidy and well maintained. The shower is amazing and so powerful. The kitchen was full of all the utensils that you need for a self catering holiday we cooked every night with no issues. There was washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets which was great as that was something we forgot. The surroundings are beautiful and we walked in the local area which was lovely. Lovely touches like umbrellas all at the front door which again was great when letting the dog out. Cosy living room with wood burner we didn’t use this as was not needed. Internet was good for what we needed. The bedroom is a little tight but think that is due to the very large bed in the room. Very quiet throughout the day and the night absolutely silent have struggled to sleep at home now due to cars driving past but I am sure I will get used to that again. We didn’t meet Anne however David was friendly and asked how our stay was. The cakes tea and coffee and doggie trays are a lovely touch l. Thank you for a lovely place to stay!

Everything was on point.

Kitchen, cutlery, pans, full size fridge freezer worked for us. Bedroom very comfortable.shower was first class. Garden wasn’t enclosed for our dog, but because of the bad weather it didn’t matter, lovely walks on the doorstep. Some might not like a distance from shops bars etc but suited us just fine. The owners were so friendly and said they were on hand if we needed anything. A lovely stay and we would go back.

The cottage is more than spacious enough for two people and was spotlessly clean. It was extremely well equipped; anything you could ever need was there and having a wood burner to take off the spring evening chill was perfect. Anne and Dave are great hosts; we were delayed on the journey up, but this was not a problem. They had left tea, coffee, milk & homemade scones for us, which was a lovely gesture. We would not hesitate to recommend Rusland View as the perfect place to stay and use as a base for a holiday in the Lakes or surrounding area. Best wishes from a very happy Kerry and Jim.

We unfortunately had an unforeseen very long journey but Anne kept in contact and assured us our late arrival would not be a problem, she was on hand to welcome us and show us around. The cake went down a treat with a cup of tea too! The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped and so peaceful. We were in a perfect position to explore the area and we would recommend a walk up to Gummer’s How, which Anne recommended, the views were spectacular. All in all a lovely week in a lovely cottage in lovely surroundings! Perfect.

We didn't however appreciate the extremely patronising email from Sykes at the end of our stay telling us what state to leave the accommodation in. It makes us less inclined to book with you again.

The property that we stayed in was very good clean and spacious, We was given free tea , coffee, biscuits and logs for the log fire.

We highly recommend this cottage, The owners where very helpful and friendly, l can’t praise these owners and the cleanness of the property enough. We would go back to this place again if we come back to the Lake District. Thank you again to the owners of the place and to the company. Ian and Maureen and the two dogs.

It’s a charming cottage in an idyllic, peaceful location. Anne and Dave were really welcoming and helpful. The cottage is well fitted out, with a west-facing terrace so you can eat outside in the evening with the sun on your face, which is a real treat in the Lakes. It’s also nice and private. One thing we really appreciated after a long day walking was a proper shower - the number of times you go to a lovely cottage only to have to deal with some dribbling Triton thing, but not here. Altogether a lovely weekend.

High standards of cleanliness & comfort. Owners are lovely people too, willing to help & assist with anything. We couldn't;t really ask for more for a short break on our way home from Scotland.

We had an amazing time staying here. The cottage is in a beautiful location with lovely views from the windows. It was spotless and had that fresh, clean linen smell as soon as you get into bed from a tiring day exploring! Also had a lovely touch to enter into the cottage to fresh daffodils and homemade cakes. We loved having the fire on in the evenings and sitting outside listening to the owls. I'm unable to suggest any improvements as it was all spot on for us. Anne and David were also so friendly and informative. Thank you both so much for such a pleasant stay!

The cottage was warm, clean and cosy.

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome. Fresh cake waiting for us with a pint of milk, coffee and teabags was indeed very thoughtful. Shower was nice and hot. Bed was firm but very comfortable. Sofa was leather and if you've ever sat one it feels really cold, but a blanket solved that issue! Views over the hills changed daily which was so lovely to see from the dining table. Ideal central location albeit several miles down a lane! for discovering the whole area. Ann went out of her way to make my birthday special. At the request of my hubby via email to her, there was surprise flowers and balloons waiting for me ( obviously at extra expense ) but it was such a memorable moment

Excellent accommodation in great condition.

Clean throughout with rustic living room and bedroom and well kept, tidy kitchen with everything you need for a short stay. Location was good for access to walks locally and a short drive to windermere and hawkshead. Cakes and dog biscuits upon arrival were a lovely touch and the hosts were welcoming. Would love to go back in the summertime.

Great hosts, nothing too much trouble.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic surroundings. Ideally situated for the many walks in the area. Good drive away to local shops etc Local pub is a good hours walk away or drive (15mins) great pub food, warm welcome and dogs very welcome. The only thing I might suggest is some form of a gate at the bottom of the stairs to stop dogs going upstairs.

The pictures didn’t do it justice, it really was such a beautiful cottage we would love to come back to stay again. It was a little cold inside at times but with the time of year and it being an old cottage it is to be expected. The fire was a real treat too in the evenings. My partner absolutely loved the shower! Said it was the best she’s had in years! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook with, and we loved the views from all the rooms. Especially beautiful to wake up to in the morning. My partner literally laid at the bottom of the bed watching the clouds drift across the scenic views for ages with a cup of tea bought to her in bed. The walk up to High Dam was amazing, literally up the road which was lovely. The folder of things to do was helpful and we left a board game for other guests to use in the future. We bought cards with us but in the evening it’s nice to have a board game to play instead of the tv. Another lovely treat was the slices of cake waiting for us on arrival. Perfect with a cup of tea after a long journey. Couldn’t recommend this stay enough. Beautiful location, helpful, pleasant hosts. Thank you so much for the most perfect weekend.

We had an amazing time here, the cottage was lovely and it was so nice to come home after some incredible hikes and relax by the fire!

It was so nice to be able to take our dog as well so he could enjoy the Lake District. We will always love the area after this trip and definitely will want to come back and explore more!!!

Fantastic little cottage, larger than I expected and wonderfully helpful hosts next door.

Really relaxing to be able to light the fire when I got back late afternoon from a day out and the dogs and I could just sit down and chill in peace and quiet. Beautiful area too.

An amazing little cottage.

Beautiful inside and out. Almost every utensil can be found in the kitchen and there is a good array of guidance in the handbook. However, it would be useful if there was guidance for the fireplace (for those not experienced at lighting and maintaining wood fires) in the handbook and warning on the listing site about the roads leading into and away from the cottage which are narrow and can be unnerving in the dark especially (for drivers who aren't used to these scenic roads).

Enjoyed a week’s stay in this lovely, cosy cottage situated in a quiet hamlet in the Rusland valley south of Hawkshead.

A great base to explore from on foot on the many local footpaths or to venture wider afield. The cottage is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Would definitely recommend for those looking for some peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings.

Anne and David were welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. The cottage was very comfortable, ideal for two people. The kitchen/diner is much bigger than it appears in the photos and very well equipped. We enjoyed the log burner too, which made the living room very cosy. The area is very beautiful, unspoilt and quiet with nice walks and pubs nearby.

I recently spent a wonderful week at Rusland View with my 2 westies.

The owners were warm and welcoming and couldn’t have done more to make my stay a memorable one and this on the back of the whole area being without power for days following a storm. The cottage is ideally situated to explore the Lakes. Cosy, comfortable with all that you need for a relaxing stay in this beautiful part of the world. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again or recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxed stay.

The property was lovely and cosy and the hosts couldn’t do enough for us.

It was just unfortunate that due to the power cut our 50th birthday celebrations were ruined and we had to cut short our stay

A great base to explore the lakes and villages ect. Owners very nice, helpful and welcoming. The milk, cakes and biscuits also fresh flowers were nice touch when we arrived. Would highly recommend. We stayed in mid November and the cottage is very warm with the log burner lit, enjoyed this after long winter walks.

A beautiful cottage, in a beautiful place.

The cottage had everything we could have possibly needed, and the local walks are breathtaking. The homemade cakes, and fresh flowers that welcomed us on arrival were a lovely touch. The owners were brilliant, offering their knowledge of the local area, and were happy to lend us their rucksack, as we forgot to take ours with us ..... again! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.... its simply perfect.

Ideal place for a getaway stay

Had a wonderful holiday exploring the many quiet walks in and around the Rusland Valley.

The cottage was comfortable, relaxing and well equipped. Anne and Dave could not have been more friendly and helpful. Looking forward to another return visit!

The cottage was lovely and in a great location.

The owners were both really nice and made sure we were comfortable and happy with the cottage. The only thing that would stop me staying here again would be the lack of an enclosed garden for the dogs. Other than that, brilliant cottage and hosts.

If you want peace and quiet this is the place to go.

A beautiful cottage away from the crowds, it had everything we needed and more. David and Anne were very accommodating and the home-made cakes on arrival were a lovely treat after a long drive. We were so lucky with the weather, the walks in the forests were a great way to escape the heat! Will definitely be back.

Total relaxation, the cottage was everything we wanted for a complete getaway.

The facilities were second to none & the bed was so comfy . We will definitely be back.

Welcoming and very friendly owners in a stunning area of the Lake District. Ideal location for nature lovers and walkers like us who very much appreciated the peacefulness this perfect escape gave us. We shall be visiting again in the future and would highly recommend this idyllic getaway.

We booked here for a quick getaway before Xmas.

We spent a couple of days looking for somewhere that had everything we wanted and within our budget so when we are across this one it was put in the 'maybe' category with my only hesitation being the lack of reviews I could find so it felt a bit of a gamble. I needn't have worried though as the cottage was absolutely perfect and even better than we could have hoped. It was quiet, well appointed and with character and charm (as well as being much bigger than the photos suggest). The place was even decorated for Xmas which added to the charm. We were welcomed by the hosts who followed all Covid secure protocols and even had some freshly made shortbread waiting for us in the kitchen. The cottage is a bit out of the way, which was what we were looking for, but easy to find and with ample parking. It was easy enough to get to p,aces ,ike Ambleside and Windermere and close to some fantastic walks that we found in the books in the living room. Me, my partner and the dog had a brilliant time and would 100% book to go back again. Thanks for a perfect stay 10/10.
