A proper home from home. Quality beds and linen. Fully equipped kitchen. The house was clean and tidy. Excellent use of soft lighting in the bedrooms and living room. No smart TV but a large selection of over 200 DVD’s that cater for everyone’s taste. Excellent welcome book / information pack with instructions for all appliances and walking routes around the local area. Warm, comfortable and cosy. We had good weather and made use of the garden which is well tended. The steepness could be an issue for people with limited mobility / agility. Very peaceful location and a great base to explore from. The only question I’d ask is why is no front door key provided ? In the event of a fire in the kitchen, there is no alternative escape route. This really need’s addressing. However we had an excellent stay and look forward to our return visit in November. Highly recommended.

Thank you David for your extensive and very positive review, it's so heartening to hear you've completely enjoyed your stay at Ling Fell. Concerning the front door key, this is a mystery that I will look into tomorrow. Normally there are 3 keys, back door, kitchen and front door, which are also duplicated in the back up set in the second lock up outside. I am a facility manager and take fire safety precautions seriously, rest assured the keys will be in place by tomorrow. Best wishes René Property Owner

About the location

BACKBARROW

Newby Bridge 1 mile; Bowness-on-Windermere 10 miles.

The small village of Backbarrow sits by the banks of the River Leven and the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The famous Haverthwaite Steam Railway runs close by the village between Haverthwaite and Lakeside. Enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or visit the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, and the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District, close to the fringe of Windermere, this attractive village makes an inspiring choice from which to forage further into a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely gorse clad moors.
