Good points - good location, easy walk in to town, private parking, spacious house with garden, fridge freezer and all utilities, quick internet Bad points - forget using the facilities for cooking as the pots were filthy as were the cupboards in which they were stored, toasty machine still had previous users food on it, rubbish strewn over the drive from overfilled bin which I had to clean upon arrival filling 2 black bags in the process, bed mattresses need replacing, springs can be clearly and uncomfortably felt in the main bedroom, broken shower fitting, bird poop all over windows clearly been there a while, cobwebs everywhere.

Musty smell throughout the house. Such a shame as could be a gem with just a little money spent and properly cleaned

Great location if you want to be near the lake for any paddleboarding or kayaking.

Nice short walk round the lake to bowness.

The property was fabulous.

Very spacious and had everything you needed. It was just excellent. The only thing was the shower in the family bathroom was very hot. So, everyone used the shower in the downstairs bedroom. This was not an issue for us, just letting you know. Also there was an iron mark on the carpet in front of the TV. On the whole an excellent cottage and an amazing holiday. Thanks

Beautiful house, exactly as in the pictures.

Amazing garden with outdoor furniture and bbq to enjoy alfresco dining. Was lovely to sit outside in the sun in the morning, pity we didn’t get the same in an evening due to the shade of some very tall trees. Very comfortable beds and large comfortable sofa. The kitchen had everything you could need. Great location with a lovely short walk into Bowness. We celebrated a birthday there and had a fabulous week.

A great little house, perfect as a base to explore Bowness and surrounding hiking regions with a 15min level walk to the centre of Bowness.

Property was clean and tidy, with a lovely kitchen and garden. Fixtures and fittings in the house were a little tired, but nothing of concern - quite normal for a rental. Overall we would stay here again.

Clean house and pretty well appointed overall; fantastic location; off street parking for 3 cars is a real bonus.

Easy to access front door key, but no second key as advertised. Small garden well kept but mostly shaded and quite overlooked. Some of the pillows were lumpy, a shame as the beds were otherwise comfortable. Downstairs ensuite bathroom was fine; upstairs bathroom shower was woefully inadequate - shower curtain badly positioned, so water would spray over whole bathroom.

We were cautious due to past reviews on this listing.

I emailed Sykes Cottages to check these out as it was a holiday for our elderly parents who need a lot of care and have specific needs. Other than some cobwebs in different rooms and needing a slightly better clean (eg down the side of the bed in the single room, behind furniture, under beds and washer having dirty water in it) the accommodation was perfect! Had we gone on reviews alone, we would not have booked and would have missed out on what was a really homely, spacious, comfortable cottage in an idyllic location near the Lake! The beds were well dressed, there was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, the kitchen was well equipped and clean, the lounge spacious with large comfy, space for two cars outside and handy downstairs toilet/shower with seat (great for disabled access) and new, clean bathroom upstairs. The garden was large and well maintained, perfect for this beautiful weather we’ve just had. Highly recommend.

So this is our 3rd stay at this cottage we love the location so much!

There was a big improvement this time round when you walked through the door there was no smell of mould and the place was much cleaner than previous stays so that was a big bonus!! Another enjoyable stay and we will be back the living room is a little tired and furniture dated but the couch is very comfy and huge it accommodated everyone! I do like the place and will be booking again soon!!

I've booked this cottage several times now- and am used to the smell of damp, which does go quickly.

But, the cobwebs throughout the property just keep growing ...and the windows in the dining area are disgustingly dirty. BUT, the real issue was the stench of urine for the whole week! There's clearly been a leak from the cistern in the downstairs en suite and the base has been recently sealed, so whether the stench is from soaked floorboards or the fact that remedial repairs haven't been done, is unclear. But clearly you don't inspect the properties or manage them. Totally unacceptable ... quite how I'm supposed to recommend you or this property is beyond my comprehension!

The property itself was well presented and welcoming.

At first sight, we were very happy with the property. After checking in, we stepped out for a walk and came back to the property to realise heating didn't work and there was no hot water. We were two families with young kids having to brave the cold whole night in freezing temperatures. It was just unacceptable. It wasn't a pleasant 1st day experience on a family holiday. We complained to the owner and the Lakelovers team but it wasn't fixed until 11:45 the next morning which also meant half a day gone wasted. We stepped out to enjoy the lake and came back in the evening to find out again the heating didn't work. We complained to the owner and the Lakelovers team as we didn't want to go through one more night of hell in extremely cold conditions. Whilst the owner and the Laklovers team were apologetic, we didn’t feel the urgency to fix the issue. I would have expected to be fixed on an emergency basis as it was second day in running the issue had occurred. To our misery, we had to go through another nightmare night of freezing cold conditions. It was again fixed temporarily in the morning around 11 AM so that we can get some hot water with a promise that a Boiler Engineer would come and fix it. Eventually it got fixed and rest of our stay felt a lot more comfortable as we didn’t face heating or hot water problems. For us, first 2 days was a nightmare and very stressful with young kids who couldn't bear the cold. My youngest was Eczema prone and it became worse too. We should not have gone through this experience on a holiday after paying a bomb. The heating is something the owner or the Lakelovers team should have ensured beforehand and not let the guests go through a horrendous time during their holiday.

So this was my second stay at the cottage it’s really homely comfortable cottage my biggest complaint was the cottage next is currently getting totally renovated it’s like a building site so was very noisy skips getting delivered filled etc from very early in the morning it spoilt our trip we was woken up from 7am every day of the trip and also the house isn’t cleaned very well a lot cobwebs an dust around I actually got the Henry hoover out an cleaned up better myself!

U should make guests aware about the building site next door?

There was no soups and no kleenex and not enough toilet paper The cleaning was not so good But the place was comfortable and the garden was very nice

We had a lovely week in the cottage.

It was clean and comfortable. The issue with the fire alarms was dealt witth quickly.

A lovely well equipped property in an excellent location with walking access into Bowness.

The property does have an obvious smell of damp on entering but it was very warm and cosy and suited us as a family for the duration of our stay. It would be handy to have access to the heating controls as during the day the heating wasn’t on and we stayed indoors on several days due to the adverse weather conditions. Nice and spacious and lovely upstairs bedrooms and bathroom, beautiful garden but we didn’t use due to the weather. Overall a nice property.

We had a fantastic holiday in and around Lake Windermere.

Fir Trees was comfortable but heating from the radiators was very random despite various comments from previous customers to leave heating instructions out. Still not done. The house is damp, smells musty and has cobwebs and spiders.Not able to open any windows downstairs apart from the kitchen window. Not much ventilation. Afraid to leave the patio door open because the squirrel might come in. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of lounging space for everyone. The shower curtain upstairs does not run the whole length of the bath so very awkward. Good kitchen facilities.Don't know about the dishwasher- never used one in my life.

Great cottage, very clean and tidy, the kitchen was well equipped, very pretty garden, and great location, shops, pubs, restaurants all within a 5 minute walk, we had a great stay.

There are issues with this property as mentioned in previous reviews.

There were several cobwebs, the smell of damp is obvious as soon as you open the door. There is no control over the central heating, which made the evenings very chilly. The location is excellent, the kitchen is very well equipped. The garden is lovely, and we were fortunate to be able to sit outside as the weather was great.

I am afraid there were a number of dissapointing things at Fir Trees.

We found the kitchen area very difficult as the owner had occupied 4 of the cupboards 2 which were locked and 2 which contained d.i.y equipment, paint ect. which shouldn't be in a kitchen.Especially with small children around. The cloth by the sink looked like a floor cloth surely if you can't offer a clean one don't leave one at all. The downstairs bedroom had an unpleasant smell which we think was coming from the bedding,it didn't help not being able to open a window in there.My only positive feed back would be the garden is very pretty.

Probably one of the dirtiest properties we’ve stayed in, never seen so many cobwebs, which isn’t great when it should be thoroughly cleaned due to Covid.

I’ve given 3 stars because of the local and beautiful garden. It’s a gorgeous house in desperate need of a deep clean and some updating.

The accommodation was extremely tasteful and well equipped.

It’s situation was perfect for staying local or touring. Lovely well kept garden too.
