“We recently stayed here as a group of nine, and overall we had a lovely time, but there are definitely a few things that need addressing.”

The positives first: the location is fantastic, the views are absolutely beautiful, and the house itself is spacious. The bedrooms were all a good size, and the garden was great for adults and older children. However, it’s worth noting that it isn’t particularly toddler-friendly due to the very steep slope. Unfortunately, the cleanliness really let it down. The whole house felt grubby rather than clean, and it was obvious that it needs a proper deep clean rather than just a quick turnaround between guests. The sofas and upholstered chairs felt dirty, there were acrylic nails under one of the sofas, and the teapot and coffee pots hadn’t been cleaned properly. The bathrooms were particularly disappointing—they felt grubby and had a very strong damp smell. During heavy rain, there was also a leak in one of the bedrooms. Thankfully it wasn’t above a bed, so it didn’t have much impact on our stay, but we reported it to Sykes Cottages via WhatsApp with photos and unfortunately never received a response. One small thing that also surprised us was the lack of a coffee machine. For a property at this price point, it’s something we’d normally expect. This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting, with fantastic views and plenty of space. Sadly, the standard of cleaning really lets it down. The carpets, upholstery and bathrooms all need a thorough deep clean, and unfortunately the lack of cleanliness would stop us from staying again. It made the lounge feel quite unpleasant to relax in, which was a shame because it’s such a lovely space. If the cleanliness issues were properly addressed, this would be a fantastic place to stay.
