Rose Cottage

This was one of the best cottages we've stayed at.

Clean, comfortable, fantastic location, and the views from the hot tub were incredible. The cottage was very well equipped too. Clearly a lot of thought has gone in by the owners to provide guests with everything g they will need for a very enjoyable return.

Lovely place.

We love staying at Rose Cottage.

This is our 3rd, maybe 4th visit and it never disappoints. The stunning views, the well equipped cottage and the hot tub win every time. Always clean.

The cottage was lovely, warm and cosy, with a welcome bag of cake and jams, plus a bottle of wine, the owners were also very welcoming and helpful.

whilst we were there two calf's were born, which was lovely. the pub is in walking distance but those with mobility problems would find it difficult and the country lane is dark, so possibly need a torch. I think 5pm access is a bit late especially in winter, as we passed the cottage and got lost, just because we didn't know the area. so maybe in winter allow access before it goes dark.

Rose Cottage was the perfect venue for a weekend getaway for myself and my daughters.

We enjoyed sitting under the stars in the hot tub, cosy evenings by the fire and cooking a delicious roast dinner in the well equipped kitchen. The beds were very comfortable, crisp white linen and plenty of towels. The setting was magnificent. In better weather I would imagine there would be fantastic walking opportunities. The location was peaceful but in easy reach of tourist spots like Windermere. I would highly recommend the shopping experience of Chesters by the River at Ambleside and delicious hot chocolate at Choccobar at Bowness-on-Windermere.

Rose Cottage was perfect!

It was well equipped, beautiful, cosy, comfortable. The cottage felt very rural yet the pub was a very short walk and the village a short drive away. The log fire, views and beams were an amazing contrast to the hot tub and WiFi. There was even a lovely welcome pack with beautiful biscuits, fresh bread and milk, and tea bags , coffee, sugar which was fully appreciated and we were very grateful for! We were a multigenerational family group and I believe that no one wanted to leave and everyone is planning on when they can return.

We have stayed in a lot of holiday rents and this is one of the best.

It had everything you needed and was set in a beautiful landscape.

Comfortable beds and good sized rooms. Appreciated the inclusion of towels, bedding, milk and bread on arrival plus the wood bundle which we did take advantage of. Friendly locals and stunning location. Thanks for a wonderful break in the lakes!!

The cottage was beautiful, loved our stay.

The description doesn't do it justice! The views from the hot tub were amazing! It was a great base for our lake district exploration. We did Coniston, Eskdale tonguepot, Wastwater, Scafell pike and Ritsons force. Ideal for this area. Broughton is a picturesque village, looks like it probably did in 1950s! Very lovely. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The beds and sofas were so comfy. The blacksmiths arms down the road was very good, very nice food. All in all a fantastic time : )

We stayed at this stunning property for a week in July and we loved everything about it.

From the stunning log fire in the living area to the amazing views and not forgetting the hot tub. There is nothing that has been forgotten at this property - the kitchen had everything you needed. The beds were so comfy I nearly packed it in the car to bring it home. I always struggle to sleep when I am away from home but I spelt like a log at this place. The fact that this property is on a working farm just added to the whole experience. The owners were polite and very helpful with anything we asked them. The only thing I would suggest would be a mat for the bath, this didn’t really bother us but a member of our group has mobility issues and only the use of 1 arm so getting in made it a bit tricky and slippy but apart from that everything was absolutely amazing and we wanted to send a massive thank you to the owners from everyone in the Berrisford Family. We will be back!

Amazing stay.

Highly recommend. The cottage was beautiful and immaculate. The photos on the site need updated to reflect how stunning the place actually is that's my only feedback. I look forward to booking again.

Great stay.

Only downside was mobile signal which can’t be helped. Everything was clean and well kept.

Gorgeous cottage, very clean and comfy beds and settees.

Kitchen was well equipped with cafetiere, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Hairdryer in the bedroom and plenty of plug sockets which is a plus in an old cottage! The hot tub was fabulous, views were spectacular and the cottage was a lot quieter than we expected with it being on a working farm too. The steps up to the hot tub had a good handrail so was easy to navigate even in the dark. Would definitely come back if we return to that area of the Lakes.

Rose cottage is a hidden gem in the Lake District!

It is evident the owner/s care and are experienced in letting out their lovely property. Attention to detail was superb; for example, the fire was made up ready to light with a good supply of kindling, paper, logs and coal (not to forget lots of matches). The beds were firm yet comfy, with high quality linen. The shower was nice and hot and powerful (which is rare in such a period cottage). The original oak beams and flag stone flooring was carefully blended with modern touches. Constructive feedback: 1. The chemicals used in the hot tub were overpowering and made our eyes water and caused coughing on the first use (mitigated by leaving the cover off for 15 mins before use and not turning on the jets), this dissipated on repeated use over the next few days. That said the views from the hot tub were just stunning! 2. The curtains in the main bedroom would benefit from some blackout lining (or black out blinds) as the light streamed through them at sunrise. 3. Very minor: it would be helpful to provide salt for cooking, and a shaver plug/point would also be great (mainly because I forgot to bring them!). Summary This is a superb cottage, which I fully recommend. Its location and facilities were above expectations and I will definitely consider staying there again.

Fabulous cottage, was big enough for us and our two teenagers.

The furnishings are comfy with new sofas since the photos were taken. Everything you need kitchen wise and the hot tub was a lovely extra. There are steps up to the garden but these weren’t a problem for us. A great view from the patio and hot tub and such a lovely quieter area of the lakes, some nice walks from the door. The pub in the village serves lovely food and everyone was very friendly. We ate there twice on the week it’s only a 10/15 minute walk. The hosts are close by and were friendly and helpful.

Rose cottage was a delight every thing was well maintained and very clean.

The only criticism I can find is that the water pressure to the shower was very poor, I would recommend Rose cottage and look forward to arranging another visit in the future

We loved our stay here!

The photos haven’t been updated so it was such a nice surprise to see the huge bed in the main bedroom and also the new sofas. It had everything we needed, the views were stunning and we would definitely recommend. The pictures don’t do it justice.

Rose cottage was perfect.

It was so clean and well equipped, much more that I've experienced at previous locations. There was milk, tea and coffee, bread and biscuits when we arrived which was so welcome. Beautiful garden but only accessible via steps which was fine for us. The hot tub was clean and a great addition to the stay. A great location, very high standard, cannot recommend this cottage enough!

Our second visit and still a lovely well appointed property in an idyllic area.

We were not blessed with the best weather (obviously an expected occurrence in the Lake District) but were still able to keep children and adults occupied.

Amazing cottage.

Had everything you needed and catered for 6 people very well. Lovely location and the hot tub was brilliant. Perfect stay and would definitely recommend. Hosts were lovely and welcoming. Very clean property. About a 20 minute drive to Coniston water which was fab for paddle boarding. Would stay again!!

This cottage is truely stunning, the views are amazing and the interior has been so tastefully decorated.

Beds super comfy, just being tall the low ceilings werent ideal but its a cottage so thats part of charm. Fresh eggs just outside to buy and off road parking a bonus. Only issues for us was water pressure disappeared on 3rd day, the location is just so remote so having to drives miles for any kind of shop or bigger village town was very annoying. Roads are deadly single tracks for miles and miles. Also would be good to have or pay for a welcome pack (had this in other cottages) as no milk etc after travelling hours to then drive 9 miles to get milk was not good. Lastly a small welcome note to list cottage owner numbers and local recommendations is always a nice touch. Local village pub was lovely but just again super pricey! No signal for phones which yes is nice but we had a child on holiday and a sick relative so couldnt call or text anyone but thats just maybe us being too used to convience. The cottage and hot tub views 10/10.

A most enjoyable weekend!

Rose cottage is charming and very beautiful. Everything one can think of is supplied! Clean and extremely comfortable! The only problem for us was no direct access onto the secure garden. Being listed as dog friendly we took this to mean our dogs would be able to access the garden whenever nature called! Unfortunately, the access is only via the front door through an open patio garden and up rather steep steps and the wire fencing was large enough for our miniature pincher's to escape so they had to be leashed at all times.

Lovely to be back and the recent updates are lovely.

The new bed and sofas are super comfortable! Still reckon you have one of the best hot tub views in the UK. A lovely week and the Blacksmiths Arma continued to deliver lovely food.

A wonderful cottage for a weekend getaway.

Very comfortable, well equipped, and in very picturesque surroundings which would have been stunning except for the Lake District weather! Didn’t stop us getting in the hot-tub though, which we enjoyed. The Blacksmiths Arms 10 minutes down the lane is outstanding for food, but a booking for a table is a must. Will certainly look to book Rose Cottage again for sure, it was pretty much perfect.

We had a lovely stay at Rose Cottage.

It is a beautiful, peaceful location, perfectly clean, great amenities, such as washer, dryer and dishwasher. The owners are friendly and helpful. Situated directly next to a working farm, my toddler enjoyed watching the coming and going of sheep and tractors, but this is not at all noticeable when inside the cottage, it’s very private and quiet which is lovely as well. Hot tub is a lovely addition and the views are amazing. Pub a short walk down the lane is cosy and makes amazing food with veggie and vegan options catered for as well! Would book this cottage again in the future.

Beautiful property Quite remote, but suited us, drove past it, difficult to spot from direction of main road.

Should of took more groceries/drinks with us. Well kept property well furnished and equipped Lovely log burner which was ready to start, slight problem as only 1 match which went out before lighting, gas lighter maybe easier? Enough wood and coal supplied for 2/3 days which was good Great views from hot tub Would definitely stay there again when going to area

Lovely cottage in a quiet location.

View from hot tub is amazing and house has everything you need. Was difficult to find in the dark.. especially as satnav postcode does not take you to cottage...and depends on your approach..we came down hill towards it and could not see cottage as tucked away to the left behind a wall! People in blacksmiths arms are very friendly and helpful ..which is where satnav takes you but do not take your car down the road in front of the pub as you may get stuck!! Overall a lovely stay and now we know how to find it would definitely recommend to others!!

Rose Cottage is a lovely ‘home from home,’ it’s spotlessly clean and the beds are sooooo comfortable it’s difficult to drag yourself out of them to explore the beautiful Eskdale and Duddon Valleys.

Views from the hot tub are stunning. We will definitely go back. The Blacksmiths Arms pub which is a few minutes walk away is excellent too.

A lovely 2 night stay here.

Very remote but that is what we were hoping for. Very easy to access Coniston for paddle boarding. A nice pub along the road to the right about 5 minutes away. Lovely, picturesque setting. Hot tub was great for our stay and enjoyed by all. Dog friendly. High chair and booster seat available for dining chair. Travel cot was much appreciated too. Parking for 2 vehicles. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues wanting to access the garden frequently as the steps are quiet steep. There is a handrail. Not a problem for our party and the views from up there were amazing! A beautiful country cottage. Thank you

Very nice cottage and location.

Views are unreal from the hot tub. First cottage we’ve been to that only had 2 slots which was the only small thing that can be pointed out taking into account it sleeps 6 people. We arrived later than the scheduled check in and someone was doing their personal washing which was a little bit strange but seemed a nice guy. Possibly the owner or a relative. Would recommend this cottage.

Amazing property with fantastic views.

Cottage was beautiful inside with all the cleaning facilities. Hot tub was great relaxing feature but did become a bit smelly towards the end of the week (lack of chemicals) but still usable. Overall, exactly what we needed, a break from people. Great!

The kitchen well stocked with everything we could possibly need. All the rooms are a good size and beds very comfortable. The landscape is stunning, plenty of beautiful walks. Local pub charming and friendly too. Owner close by, helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend

My second visit and I will definitely be back if pricing can be kept around the £500 level (I know normally it starts higher and is sometimes reduced).

Location is remote, which for me is a big plus. Absolutely idyllic and the hot tub for star gazing is the clincher for me. Beds very comfortable. Just be aware the back bedroom with its sloping ceiling is not ideal for adults as it is very easy to bump your head on the two beams. I know they are there but still managed it three times, once causing a cut/bump, so moved into the front double when my friend left on the Tuesday. Well equipped kitchen and very comfortable lounge with great woodburner.

Rose Cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Situated on a country lane with amazing views & was so relaxing not having to hear any traffic. Loved the wood burner which we used every night & has great WiFi connection. Had a meal at the Blacksmiths Arms after reading previous reviews & wasn’t disappointed, the food was excellent. Will definitely return.

Fantastic cottage set on a working farm, we stayed for 4 days in March, very lucky with the weather, great for walking, with a pub just down the road serving wonderful food (advise to book) and finally the views when sitting in the hot tub.

Would i come back again ? Definitely.

Ideal for our 2 dogs. Great base to explore the Lake District from . The Blacksmiths arms is great for food and only a 5 min walk down the road . The Harrison family are very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be going back in the future.

Rose Cottage was perfect no complaints from me or my family, we had a very relaxing break and in spite of the mixed weather and fuel (petrol & diesel situation) we still got around and a lovely cottage to return home too in the evenings, couldn't ask for more.

Neighbours was very friendly too. The farmers next door sell very tasty eggs too a good way to start the day.

Great spot , nice quiet picturesque valley, an easy reach to the central areas of the Lake District if that's what you fancy 20-45 minutes away.

Pleasant small town 5-10 minutes drive away (great 45 minute walk through the local countryside) and a great little pub 5 minutes walk down the hill. Interesting fells in walking distance with a couple of summits to climb. I could have spent the whole week just investigating the local area. Very relaxing. Friendly hosts working the small hill side farm next door. Hope to come back one day. Thanks

possibly when driving some of the roads tend to be a tad narrow, and be aware of chickens etc near the farms.

The cottage was homely and very comfortable, with every touch considered.

We visited with my daughter and her friends and made some lovely memories. Welcome pack, friendly farmers next door and amazing service and food at the Blacksmiths Arms was such a treat. Together with Wilson Park and fab clock tower antiques in the village of Broughton in Furness.We all loved it, it just was not long enough.

We had a superb time in this beautiful cottage.

We were cosy and it was quite for a good rest. Great local walking and pub which has several open fires and great beer. The only problem was we needed another bathroom really or at least a loo. A manual would have been good about how to get the heating on and how to start the fire as we were useless. Recommend this charming place!

The cottage is in a gorgeous secluded valley - the Lickle valley, in the SW Lakes - Far less visited than the rest of the Lakes but just as majestic - Close enough to drive to many of the sites of the southern and western Lake District, the fells, the southern lakes and the Cumbrian coast for a bracing walk - try St Bees Head or Ravenglass.

The cottage is bigger inside than it looks with plenty of room for four or five people - plus we had two large dogs. The owners recently adapted the adjacent field into a communal garden and the dogs are welcome. This is accessed via an amazing new set of slate fronted steps beside the cottage - which the owners built themselves.The cottage is nestled amongst the old buildings of a working farm (c. 1746) - the owners live next door in the farm house and the adjacent cottage and sell fresh eggs and logs and kindling for the cottage's log burner. The cottage was renovated and upgraded by the family in the 1990s with traditional features restored. There's a photo album in the cottage cataloguing the restoration which is an interesting read and shows the care and effort involved. The cottage is really well equipped with a tumble drier and washer included - great for those who like to go out walking, rain or shine. There's a big kitchen table with 6 chairs - for family meals together. The shower is excellent as it has its own pump and although there is only one bathroom, as a group of four we had no problems with this. Rose cottage is located a couple of miles outside Broughton in Furness - one of a cluster of old country towns in the Furness peninsula - about 1/2 mile from the hamlet of Broughton Mills - When approaching the cottage on the road from Broughton in Furness look out for a 'logs and kindling for sale' sign on the left just as you come over the brow of the valley. On the map the location is called 'Lane End' and there is a sharp left hand turn off the road directly into the cottage's parking spot on the immediate left. You should recognise the view of the cottage straight away. The pub in Broughton Mills 10 mins walk further along the road is great - rustic and homely with four cosy rooms each with an open fire. The daughter of the cottage's owners works there amongst her many jobs and all of the staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent and we would all recommend the lamb rump and the lamb Henry. The chef recently appeared on 'Master-chef Professionals' and it showed in the quality and presentation. We would recommend that you bring supplies for the first few days - particularly if you plan to prepare evening meals as the local opportunities for food shopping are few and far between and all closed on Sundays - though we would highly recommend the bakery/café, grocers and butcher shops - all side by side on the main street in Broughton in Furness - 2 mls away. The nearest biggish shops are in Dalton in Furness (7 mls) and superstores in Barrow (12 mls away). The only issue we had with the cottage was that the beds were a bit on the soft side for us - obviously a personal preference - but the fresh air and the peace and quiet helped sleeping. The sofas in the living room were also too low and too soft and we all found them hard to get up from once seated. They could do with a refresh in our opinion. Overall, we really loved the cottage and location and would highly recommend it to those looking for a good base for outdoor activities - there are excellent walks straight from the door - or for a tranquil, 'get away from it all' experience. A lovely cottage set in beautiful surroundings.

This cottage is a real gem.

Fantastic location, very well appointed, and lovely biscuits on arrival (and milk too!). The owners were great and got the high chair, stairgate, and cot out for us, so we had a stress free first family holiday. Lots of fluffy towels, tea towels, dishcloths, so we didn't need to pack those either. Bonus tumble dryer too.

This is a well laid out cottage with us taking 2 dogs it was very helpful to have the enclosed garden .

Parking 2 large cars was a bit tight as one was stuck out a short way into the road .The cottage is situated in a very beautiful location and is well worth a visit with lovely local pubs and good food Nearby

Awesome place.

Meet the owner and friends at the local pub, the blacksmith arms. Food was incredible and tbe outside were great fun. While experience was perfect. That even left fresh milk, tea bags and biscuits for our arrival. Couldn't ask for a better service.
