Location This superb self-catering property is just a walk away from Lake Windermere and provides a very versatile base for a Lake District holiday with family or friends. If you're taking it easy, you'll never tire of the views and the atmosphere at Middlerigg. But if you're looking for entertainment and activities, you'll find yourselves within easy reach of boating activities on Lake Windermere, family attractions in Bowness and a cosmopolitan village life in Ambleside – there are so many possibilities. Only a stroll from Middlerigg, Brockhole Visitor Centre provides a wealth of family entertainment including the exciting Treetop Trek, where you can experience the exciting 35 treetop challenges, designed to make you swing, climb, balance and fly through an ancient oak woodland canopy. With grounds leading down to Lake Windermere, Brockhole has plenty of activities on offer for all the family to enjoy, it's a great place to have nearby - even if you just head there for a picnic! Ambleside is a sophisticated Lakeland village on the northern shores of Lake Windermere and Gateway to the Langdale Valley. It's a must-visit for foodies, lovers of Lakeland ale and even shopaholics – including a range of outdoor clothing shops. Ambleside is also a hub of outdoor activity; endless walking and cycling routes begin in and around the village, and advice is on hand in expert shops and the Ambleside tourist information centre. Our top tip for a scenic Lake District drive, is to go over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, via the Troutbeck Valley to Ullswater. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
