The Potting Shed

This is a lovely cosy cottage with every comfort you need.

Lovely hosts. We would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting some peace and quiet but then it's close to local amenities. We would certainly have no hesitation returning when we are visiting the Lakes area again. There are a lot of places to visit within a short drive and the number 555 bus from Lancaster to Kendal passes just down the road. Well worth a visit. Thank you to the lovely hosts who ensure everything is perfect for their guests.

Our second visit to this 'hideaway' accommodation which once again provided exceptionally well presented facilities and comfort.

Very quiet with nice outside sitting/ dining space which in such good weather was much appreciated. Very convenient to a local shop and Pub Restaurant and from the door walks. There is a regular bus Service just a very short distance (5 mins) to Lancaster or Kendal with so many places to stop off without having to pay Lakeland Parking Charges ! Kirkby Lonsdale is five Miles away for bigger shopping requirements We had a great Week..

Accommodation is first class.

Everything one would hope for. Very clean and comfortable.

This is a quality accommodation, spotlessly clean with attention to detail.

The outdoor space in particular is so very peaceful and sheltered for a 'dining out' alfresco. It is central to the lovely area south of the lake district. In the 25 years we have stayed in cottages this is 'up there' with the very best.

We had a great time and the Potting Shed has everything you need for a comfortable holiday, The property is much nicer than the current photos suggest and bigger than it looks.

It is in a lovely location, ideal for exploring the Lake District, and also convenient for part of the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire. The description of the property doesn't really do it justice, as we found it to be more spacious than the pictures showed. We intend to visit this property again.

Lovely holiday home tucked away behind the owner’s property.

Plenty of space for two, and well equipped. Really enjoyed exploring the area, as great location for the coast, hills and lower Lake District. Property is accessed via a security gate and longish gravel path, but wheeled trolley provided by owner to help transport baggage from the parking area.

This was our first visit to The Potting Shed.

We really enjoyed our stay and found the cottage to be of excellent quality with everything that you would need. We received a nice welcome from Steve and appreciated the welcome cake etc. In the village it is worth a visit to The Royal Oak lunch was very good. Lovely holiday home, modern fixtures & fittings, plenty of space for two.

It had everything we wanted and needed. Quiet and remote property with lots of privacy, but easily accessible to plenty of lovely towns and beaches (all within 20mins drive). We’d definitely recommend and come again.

Our 3rd visit and we will be back. A pleasant village with reasonable facilities and a good bus service.

We were very impressed with the property, it was very clean, well maintained and private and the owner was friendly but also not intrusive.

Location is ideal for The Lakes and for the Yorkshire Dales. We have rented many properties over the years and this was undoubtedly in our top 3 and we plan to return in 2026

Alison and Steve provided everything that we needed for a perfect breakaway.

The cottage is comfortable in a quiet location and perfect for exploring the area.

There were only two very minor 'quibbles'. A set of kitchen scales would have been handy and perhaps a grab rail in the shower.

The cottage was very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

It was great having 2 sofas which you don’t often get in cottages for two! Furnishings we’re of good quality and it was obvious that the owners had actually lived in it to make sure it was a pleasant and well thought out space. It is well placed for trips out to the Southern Lakes and we also made use of the local bus and train service.

We had a lovely stay at the Potting Shed.

The cottage provided a a lovely space for relaxing, whist being in a great position to explore from. We didn't meet Steve and Allison which in itself speaks volumes for how smoothly they run this little gem of a place. We found the cottage warm, welcoming and comfortable. The information provided before and on arrival was extremely helpful!

Beautifully converted, very comfortable, a credit to the owners.

This is the second time we have stayed at The Potting Shed.

The property is well laid out and spotlessly clean. There is outside space with a table and chairs which catches the sun from mid afternoon. Lovely to sit out with a glass on wine! When we arrived there was milk in the fridge and a super cake. The welcome pack was sent to us by email a couple of days before we arrived which is very useful. There is walking from the door and an OS map available for guests to use. The property is situated up a quiet lane not far from the bus route ( No 555) with an hourly service to the lake district. Steve the owner is very helpful if there are any queries.

We love the Potting Shed, clean, relaxing & secure.

The potting shed was great very quiet and peaceful perfect to chill out it's on the doorstep for the lakes yorkshire dales loads of great walks locally without the hustle of the Lakes Warton Crag & Arnside Knot ideal for the less energetic Steve & Annabel on site & most obliging if there's any problems i would defernetly recommend the potting shed to family & friends & i'm looking forward to my next visit very soon Best regards John

A very enjoyable stay.

Everything was spot on .

High standard in all areas. Lovely watching birds on feeder and also had squirrel and pheasant appear. Steve was there for any query and made us feel welcome. Will certainly be back as The Potting Shed is possibly the best self catering property we have stayed at

Extremely comfortable & private little cottage.

Steve is on hand if you need him & was very helpfull. Everything inside has been given so much thought & is of great quality. Super comfy bed. Take bird food fill up the feeders.I saw so many birds & by the end of second week a nut hatch had appeared!! If everyone that stays fills the feeders there will be constant birds visiting. 10 out of 10 for the Potting Shed.

The cottage was beautiful.

Inside was gorgeous. Everything so clean. The only issue I had was outside of the cottage could have been tidied up a little ie the outside plants could have been tidied up We spoke to Steve and Alison a lovely couple. The cottage was so lovely. No issues whatsoever. Gorgeous bedding and a lovely sleep. Enjoyed every minute

What a beautiful comfortable accommodation.

It is light and airy and everything has been thought through. It has a lovely feel to it. The kitchen is very well stocked with good quality items. The outdoor sitting area so quiet and sheltered. The Potting Shed is in a good location for visiting the Lakes/Morecambe Bay etc. plus walking from the door. The owner sent information about the cottage on an email a couple of days before arrival which we found very useful. Thank you Steve and Allison, you have a gem of a place and we hope to return.

The cottage was great.

clean tidy with everything you needed We were just annoyed that it was only after booking we were informed that it was a sykes cotrage.we keep away from sykes as during covid we lost a lot of money when they wouldnt refund even though the rules said they should when they had cancelled. The fact cottage bookings are by sykes shoul be made clearer

Everything was perfect.

Excellent stay at the Potting Shed even though me and my husband were unwell for a couple of days but that didnt stop us having a good mooch around the area, everything you need is in the cottage, they have thought of everything, tucked away at the bottom of the owners garden but also very private, GEM of a place, will deffo be going back in the near future.

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Potting Shed and would thoroughly rec it.

Lovely secluded location, we were lucky with the weather and the outside patio was well used. Will definitely recommend.

The potting shed is a lovely ground floor apartment tucked away, completely private, behind a flowering hedge at the bottom of the owners garden in the village of Burton in Kendal.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We enjoyed several walks from the doorstep while we were there including a walk along the Lancaster canal not far away. We love this part of the world and highly recommend it.

The cottage was excellent.

We loved the privacy particularly the private patio where we enjoyed much wine! The cleanliness was spot on and the equipment provided was more than adequate. We would have preferred a firmer mattress. Parking arrangements were great. The location was superb for exploring the Lakes and the Dales.

We found the bed too soft for our liking, but appreciate this is a very personal thing and you cannot provide a bed to suit all people :) Well furnished and great place for a break away.

Everything was thought out in terms of what was provided at the accommodation. Great location touring.

Both Alison and Steve were really friendly and approachable.

We were left to our own devices but they made it clear that if we did need anything they would be there to help. Steve even text me on the day I was arriving to let me know about the local roadworks and told me the best way to get to the cottage to avoid any hassle. The cottage is in an ideal location for access to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes. It was very peaceful and quiet, would definitely recommend.

Upon arrival the cottage was clean, warm and exactly as advertised. we enjoyed a lovely stay over Christmas and the cottage was 0wrfect for our needs and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area. We bought a bird feeder along with us (as we had seen a previous comment about lack of a feeder and we are avid bird lovers ) and it was over run with bird life, so maybe this is something the owner could add but apart from that it was faultless. thank you Steve and Allison.

A fantastic little cottage which is very well equipped.

Warm, cosy and inviting, we looked forward to returning each evening.

Our stay at the potting shed was excellent, lovely cottage and area, an added bonus that a very good bus service only 5 minutes walk away.

The pub in the village serving very good food.. Shame there wasn't any bird feeders outside patio doors as there was an abundance of birds In the garden.Enjoyed our stay, just a shame about the awful weather, but did not keep us in. Would and have recommended the potting shed.

The cottage is lovely in a really quiet spot.

I would definitely recommend this cottage We did eat at the local pub but we weren't very impressed. The staff were very nice but the food wasn't really up to standard. However there are some lovely places to eat in Kirkby Lonsdale which is only 20 minutes away by car.

It certainly deserves a 5 star rating. The owners deserve 5 stars also. My husband took unwell midweek and the owners went out of their way to take him to the nearest doctor and waited and brought him back. Even managed a visit to a pharmacy. Kindness itself. No problem in recommending this lovely cottage.

Extremely comfortable bed, the cottage is spotlessly clean, very well equipped and ideal for exploring the Lake District. Would recommend this cottage and would definitely book again if staying in the area.

We like to eat in and thought there was not enough crockery and cutlery with out putting the dishwasher on twice a day.

Shame it was a Friday to Friday booking, as due to nature of our jobs we will always have to forfeit a night .

.. this is common for a lot of Sykes cottages. We would prefer Saturday to Saturday rentals. Overall lovely cottage, very comfortable, modern and clean. Great to come back to after a busy day out walking. Location good for a range of activities including Lakes.
