It was easy to find and when we got there it was very quiet, beautiful grounds.

the accommodation was fine and clean with everything you needed, plenty of places to visit and to eat . all information is in a folder to look at. overall very please with everything. Thanks.

We enjoyed our stay a lot.

The hook and eye locking device on the bathroom didn't appear to work, which could have been a problem with 4 adults sharing the space, but we just said "If the door is shut, someone is in there" but obviously a locking bathroom is preferable. Very comfortable settees and beds, although the duvet was super thick and very hot! Thank you for the lovely cheese etc. in the fridge. Very appreciated, as we arrived in the evening.

The Residence is a gem of place, the accommodation has a real Wow factor and you are made to feel at home from the first moment with a lovely and thoughtful welcome pack.

The rooms are luxurious and so warm and comfortable. The gardens are equally wonderful and great to spend time, either just reading, wandering around or having an impromptu picnic. Four legged friends made to feel very welcome. Can highly recommend The Residence. Our fourth year here, looking forward to next year already.

Very pleased we booked Residence property for our weeks stay in the lakes, the property was stunning set in lovely maintained gardens with very impressive sized rooms, very well equipped amenities and a lovely welcome pack on arrival.

20 mins drive to the coast you have beautiful sandy beaches and 20 mins drive to the lakes you are surrounded by mountains, walks and views to die for. We did not want to leave and would definitely return.

We really enjoyed our week here in this splendid building.

Large rooms, with good quality fittings, crockery and cutlery. Very quiet and tranquil location. Although there is nothing in the village, it is a good base for exploring the Cumbrian coast.

This is our third stay here and as usual everything was perfect.

We really appreciate the treats that Susan leaves for us. All I can do is highly recommend staying. We will be back.

A beautiful apartment within Ehen Hall.

It was really spacious with lovely grounds right next to Longlands lake. We had been left a delicious welcome pack and the kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms were so luxurious with beautiful bedding especially comfy pillows. We had a fantastic week there and we were lucky to be able to book it.

This is a gem.

Very different from what you may be used to. An apartment made in about a quarter of the mansion. Self contained, ample parking and grounds big enough to play with our little JRT girl at throw ball. Longlands lake minutes walk away which is a mile or so around the lake. Not everyone picks up their dog waste there though which was disappointing but not a reason to avoid it. You enter the apartment in t⁹he very well appliance filled kitchen. All you need to bring in is groceries and (in our case wine) First thing that struck us was the high ceilings. Walk down the hall which has wood panelling into the lounge. Extremely comfortable and tasteful furniture and decor with great external lighting into the evening. TV with freeview though we rarely used it. Upstairs onto the first floor (remember high ceilings mean more stairs) is a landing of which the master bedroom and (the only) bathroom. All very satisfactory in style and cleanliness. As my wife tells me I snore I was exiled to the second floor bedroom which was very spacious in the attic. Roof light could be closed with a handset and really blacked out the room. Definitely the best bedroom in my opinion. Overall its a magnificent place to stay. Very quiet, comfortable, relaxed. We couldn't help but feel like Lord and Lady of the Manor. We have dear friends who live locally who came round a couple of nights for dinner and can fit 6, or even 8 around the kitchen table. Best local amenities in Egremont co-op or large tesco and morrisons in Whitehaven. Perfect location for exploring West Cumbria including Ennerdale (Bridge...hare and hounds) St Bees, Ravenglass, Muncaster Castle, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Wastwater. Loved the whole feel of the area

We loved our stay at The Residence.

The grounds are beautiful and peaceful and there is a very pretty little lake that is an easy, gentle walk around it within just 5 minutes from the house and St Bees beach, around 15 mins drive away, is a lovely long sandy beach with a good cafe with great ice cream! The Residence itself is very well equipped and tastefully decorated with high quality features eg. Roberts radios in each room, quality bed linen, good crockery and cutlery etc. The property is very spacious and the bedrooms in particular are huge. The owner, Susan, responded immediately when I contacted her on our first morning there as we couldn’t find a hairdryer and she arrived within 15 minutes with one for us. The only minor improvement, for dog owners like ourselves, would be a bin for dog waste on the property itself as currently you need to walk down to the Lake to the bin there to dispose of it.

Wonderful stay in a peaceful location, near to the fells and lakes.

Very comfortable beds and a fabulous welcome pack, thank you so much. Weather was fantastic and we enjoyed a family reunion, Ravenglass "Laal" Ratty, Keswick, St Bees and the drama of Wasdale, the deepest lake. Getting out of the gate a bit hairy, installing a mirror there would be really good, if possible, of course

Third year at The Residence, heaven on earth.

Beautiful characteristic property surrounded by equally stunningly beautiful country. Fells, Lakes and Coastal beaches, high level, low level walks plus a myriad of excellent pubs serving top quality food. Best bit is that west Cumbria is so quiet compared to Keswick Ambleside etc. The Welcome pack that greeted us was lovely, locally sourced items and very much appreciated. The property gardens are beautifully maintained and a pleasure to spend time in. 10/10

Really enjoyed the long weekend away.

The house was perfect for the rest and recuperation I needed . I’ve never stayed any where so clean . Cooking in the kitchen was a pleasure as was spending time in the rest of the house . The grounds full of bluebells and wild garlic was a joy to walk around . The dog had the best time playing and you didn’t really need to leave everything was perfect . Will definitely book again when I visit my daughter next time .

A really luxurious property retaining the original features of the complete hall.

Furnishings were very luxurious and the property was well kitted out. The welcome treats were probably the best we have ever received, very generous and good quality. Located conveniently for exploring the Cumbrian coast and for striking inland to the Lakes. Would highly recommend.

Everything was of a very high quality.

The only thing we found was the cutlery being do far away from the cooking area and for older people like ourselves we found it hard going in such a extra large kitchen. Feel there was room under the window for a set of kitchen drawers and cupboards. The beds were wonderful and got a good night's sleep. A good place to stay.

The accommodation was spacious and very comfortable. The welcome package was excellent and much enjoyed. We would go back.

Best Christmas ever due to this wonderful property!

The pictures didn't do it justice. It was absolutely wonderful. The property was spotless and the owners had prepared it to be so welcoming as we walked in the door. A very generous welcoming pack and lamps switched on to welcomed us in. Our 27 yo. son who is not known to be effusive in his comments walked in and said "This is fantastic"!!!

We stayed a week and it was amazing honestly !

The property was beautiful, clean and cosy. The blankets, furniture and ornaments made the place feel homelike. Location was great for us and the recommendations in the book were great. If we had one constructive suggestion it would be a place to dispose of general waste as it told us to leave rubbish in the bin, we had a lot which we felt guilty to leave in such a beautiful place and not get rid of ourselves before departing. Thank you so much for our stay and making us feel welcome, we will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family.

Excellent place with loads of character

We had a lovely stay at The Residence and would certainly want to come back!

The Residence is a beautiful apartment, it has so much character, is super spacious and is in the most perfect setting, peaceful and relaxing.

It is clean and comfortable and so well equipped. The rooms are beautifully furnished, sympathetic to the age of the property and the hosts are helpful and friendly, very welcoming. We travelled with our dog who loved the freedom of the grounds. We would definitely recommend.

A great place to stay.

Tranquil yet next to a main road. A great base for the Western Lakes and the coast. We liked the little extras such as food, wine and beerLovely bed linen. All the utensils you require. Would definitely return.

Lovely old building with high ceiling rooms, large bedrooms, equipped with all you need including a fast wifi.

Very helpful hosts. Close to Whitehaven and the western lakes. A dog walk just 5 mins walk away. The shower cubicle is a bit small but the shower is powerful and refreshing. All in all a nice stay.

Had a fantastic weekend here with my dog.

The hosts were very friendly and left a lovely welcome gift of food and wine. The building and grounds are a bit tired looking in places but this didn’t bother me as I think it adds to the character of the place. It’s a very old property and feels like a stately home so if you want modern it’s not the place for you. Quiet private location but close to local town with all facilities. Lovely lake to walk round with your dog 5 minutes walk away. Perfect location for both seaside and lakes.

It’s difficult to put into words the experience of turning up to such a beautiful, historic house as but from the moment we arrived through the gates of Ehen Hall and up that driveway we felt it was a special place.

The house has been beautifully and tastefully restored, still maintaining so much of its history but with many modern comforts and every need well catered for. The cleanliness and attention to detail leaves you feeling instantly at home and relaxed and the owners couldn’t do enough to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Thank you and we will definitely be returning
