    “Gatesgarth was lovely the moment you walk in the front door, once you slide the barn door out the way and are greeted by a very well appointed open plan house with some very lovely architectural details, very nice furniture and the fixtures and fitting were great, loved the Quooker tap, lots of Smeg appliances, all very top tier.”

    All the rooms had individual thermostats but the rooms never actually got warm, it was a little disappointing we never actually felt cosy in there and when we got in bed it was freezing. Also as a side not the pillows could do with being changed, there were some quite well used ones in the downstairs room by the driveway. Overall I would stay there again if the heating was tweaked. Oh and it would be good to note the driveway is very tricky to get in and out of, luckily we came in an ...

CONISTON

Hawkshead 4 miles; Ambleside 8 miles.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin. Nearby attractions include the award-winning village of Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country and Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing.
