The property

Holiday cottage accommodation rarely comes in a more picturesque setting. Riverbank is set within Stepping Stones House which is an historic country property, which was once owned by William Wordsworth's son and overlooks the famous stepping stones across the River Rothay. With beautiful views in every direction; this lovely location is amazingly within walking distance of the bustling village of Ambleside. It is also within a short drive both of Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere and the popular tourist villages of Bowness and Windermere. Within this 'picture postcard' rambling property are several holiday apartments. Each one is rated by Visit England as four star; having pretty comfortable interiors and each with their own front door leading into the garden and grounds. They offer a lovely and private home from home for you to enjoy your Ambleside cottage holiday. Conjure up your ideal Lakeland retreat - beautiful views, fantastic walks straight from your door, an abundance of local wildlife including ducks, red deer, the occasional otter and red squirrel, open fires, a myriad of local pubs and restauarants and much much more. Riverbank at Stepping Stones has it all. == Accommodation in detail The stunning views from this beautifully appointed cottage apartment will immediately help you relax into your Lakeland holiday. This romantic one bedroom accommodation overlooks the famous stepping stones across the River Rothay. Comfort and luxury are paramount here, with a lovely contemporary kitchen set against a Lakeland stone wall, incorporating a dishwasher washer/dryer and fridge/ freezer. The cosy lounge has tasteful soft furnishings together with an open fire to warm you on cooler evenings. After a comfortable nights sleep wake up again to the stunning views and if its early enough you might even catch a glimpse of deer crossing the river. Location Set in idyllic rural surroundings with a view that has hardly changed since the property was in the Wordsworth family, Stepping Stones is just minutes from Ambleside. Guests have a true getting away from it all experience in beautiful surroundings and surrounded by stunning scenery. There are many wonderful walks straight from the door, ranging from short walks to full day hikes. Alternatively a few minutes in the car takes you to the village of Ambleside known by locals as the jewel in Lakeland's crown. Ambleside offers plentiful eateries and vibrant shopping surrounded by endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits.Nearby too is Grasmere, a wonderful Lakeland village with views abounding. Grasmere has drawn poets, artists and painters for centuries and is famously the home of William Wordsworth in Dove Cottage, from 1799-1808. Bowness on Windermere is the most popular tourist destination in Cumbria; it is a hive of activity with plenty to see and do. Both young and old love to feed the ducks and swans at the water's edge and the many steamer cruises and boat hire are popular choices. There are cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and shops to help you while away the hours. The famous Beatrix Potter museum is well worth a visit too.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
