Lovely week spent at the cottage.

It was extremely well equipped and comfortable. Thank you for the welcome and goodies on arrival Would certainly recommend a stay here to friends.

Home from home.

Nice quiet location but handy for access to central Lakes and Yorkshire Dales.

Lovely well maintained property which accurately reflected the description/pictures on the website.

The owner (David) who lives at the adjacent property was very welcoming, but not at all instrusive during our stay. Location is ideal if you have a car. Close enough to enjoy easy access to the 'South Lakes' and Kendal, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. Would highly recommend.

Durham Bridge Barn is beautifully appointed, well equipped and sparklingly clean.

The beds are really comfortable and the linen & towels are of very good quality so all in all we felt very well looked after. It's in a great position too and to be able to walk onto the fells straight from the property is a real bonus.

Durham Bridge Barn is very well tastefully decorated and furnished and spotlessly clean.

The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that you need for your stay. We found it lovely and warm and cosy - we found the sofa a little low and difficult to get up from but perhaps that is due to our ageing joints! The location is very quiet but equally it was very easy to get out and about with both Windermere and Kendal close by, Can honestly say this is probably one of the nicest properties we have stayed in and overall we were extremely happy with the experience - we would definitely recommend Durham Bridge Barn without hesitation!

Beautiful cottage, exceptionally well equipped in a lovely location.

Only thing that would improve it is the option to have a lightweight duvet as in summer the cottage is so well insulated the 10 tog duvet was a bit too warm. Overall would definitely return.

Durham Barn is a gem.

Everything had been done to a very high standard; the furnishings, the beds, the decor and the cleanliness. In addition, the owners were so friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. An added bonus was little Ollie the spaniel! We have already recommended Durham Bridge to our family!

The Barn and the surrounding countryside lived up to all our expectations .

. we had a lovely few days at Durham Bridge. The accommodation suited us well with a bedroom on the ground floor so no stairs to negotiate for our elderly father, we didn’t lack for anything and were made very welcome. This location means plenty of places of interest in easy reach and good eating out to choose from.

Of the many cottages we have stayed at in England, Scotland, and Wales, this is our favourite.

My wife puts it at No 1. I say top 2, so the owners stay on top of their game wondering how they can get rid of the 2! Durham Bridge Barn is well placed for the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Total peace, yet only 7 miles from Bowness, and 6 miles from Kendal. If I could afford it, I would buy it. Well done to all involved.

The surroundings were peaceful and the views lovely. The kitchen was very well equipped and lovely to have a welcome pack and milk and bread. The property was very clean and nice to have linen changed for our second week. We went on a lovely 4hr walk that started from the gate in the garden to woodland. We fell in love with Ollie the dog. We would definitely come back again. Lovely holiday

Fantastic cottage with amazing views and in an excellent position for Windermere etc.

The accommodation was spotless and it was kitted out with top quality equipment. The owners even left us milk, bread and a welcome box of goodies. I'd love to stay there again in the future.

We loved our stay at Durham Bridge Barn!

The house was immaculately clean and the master suite was incredibly comfortable. The kitchen was superbly equipped which made life so much easier. We were sorry to hear that the owner was unwell - but despite this a family member still came to welcome us and give us some bread and fresh eggs from the chickens - such a lovely gesture particularly given the circumstances. We brought out 10 month old son, and there was a cot and high chair provided which was great. There was a third small single bedroom upstairs next to the master suite which we used as him room - this worked perfectly. Even though it is really easy to access from the M6, and without any really windy roads, the barn is set back from the road and is wonderfully quiet. We left feeling very well rested!

Beautiful accommodation in a quiet part of the Lakes yet only 15 minutes from Bowness and Windermere.

Very clean and beautifully appointed. Excellent kitchen and comfortable beds. Very nice owner who was on site very helpful but not intrusive. We have already booked for next year.

We arrived to a warm welcome and a spotlessly clean, well appointed cottage in a good location for walks.

We were able to relax immediately into our few days break. Beds were very comfortable too. Excellent stay, thank you.

Durham Bridge Barn David and his daughter, Sarah, were the perfect hosts.

From the moment we arrived in this beautiful area of The Lake District, to leaving, they were always willing to help us in any way possible. This home-away-from-home is stunningly beautiful and absolutely pristine in cleanliness. PRISTINE! The kitchen is a dream and is stocked with everything you would ever need for a holiday. They even left us a gift box with an assortment of goodies - very much appreciated! Sarah also gave us some fresh farm eggs from her chickens! There are 3 bedrooms; two with large beds (and en-suite) and a small bedroom with a single bed. There is also a downstairs toilet - so convenient! The bed downstairs proved to be too hard for my old bones but Sarah came to the rescue! She provided another heavyweight duvet and with the one I had we folded them lengthwise to form a ‘cushion’ and from then on I slept really well! We did have a few hiccups with the heating but it was sorted and all worked out efficiently. We were within a short traveling distance of Windermere, Kendal, Keswick, Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston and The Lake District National Park…to name just a few! Such a beautiful part of the country. We definitely want to return - but only if we can stay at the barn! As ‘seniors’ we did find the seating in the lounge area a little bit difficult. The couch is very low, deep and comfortable - but too low to get up from easily. I sat in one of the chairs but my hubby sat on the couch. Once you’re ‘down’ - brilliant - but rising again..!? Whew! We had a few anxious moments at his antics. It wouldn’t stop us returning though. I cannot praise Durham Bridge Barn enough…we both loved staying there and were very sad to leave. You will not be disappointed - I promise!

On arrival we were met by the owners who were very helpful and immediately put us at our ease.

The property is absolutely superb, the very best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. There is plenty of information on places to go and where to experience the very best of pub food. The property is perfectly positioned for visiting Windermere, Bowness Ambleside, Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's home) and Wray Castle and, of course, many walks. We managed to fit in golf at the Backside golf course where the views from the course were stunning. Needless to say but should we return to the Lake District we will book Durham Bridge Barn, it really is perfect in every way.

Simply a brilliant place for a break.

Clean, and mostly tastefully decorated to a high quality.

Plenty of room and a lovely relaxed feel to it. A couple of Pyrex bowls would be useful and a measuring jug. A further seating area on a higher level would make a big difference as the area by the house doesn’t get the sun for long and you can’t see the surrounding views. I wouldn’t recommend wearing healed shoes when walking on the shale, which surrounds the entire cottage. Friendly owners and chickens. Definitely worth a stay.

A lovely cottage with everything we needed.

A fabulous property, very quiet, clean and comfortable and with excellent facilities with a lovely private seating area at the back.

The property has its own designated parking. A good base to visit the southern lakes and an excellent site to view the stars on a clear night. A welcome pack of local produce on arrival. Kendal supermarkets nearby for groceries and a useful list of local pubs to eat out provided by the owners. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay there again.

We thought the cottage was of a very high standard with all the facilities you could want for.

It is obvious the owners have given a great deal of thought as to what makes a first class holiday home. A real home from home which was very welcoming from the moment you arrived. The welcome hamper and fresh eggs were a nice touch. The location of the cottage is great surrounded by wonderful scenery and with numerous tourist places to visit close by. We would thoroughly recommend the property to anyone visiting the Lake District and am sure we will be looking to stay at the cottage again in the future.

First of all its very well situated, not far from Kendal and on the old road to Windermere.

Its close to (driving) a number of pubs that serve excellent food. Its very private and quiet with outstanding views. Its cosy and warm, well maintained and very clean. Very comfortable with luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is a dream to cook in the owners have provided everything you could want for a peaceful holiday. For a summer holiday there is a very nice private seating area. All in all 5 start accommodation.

The most fantastic property with an everything top quality.

I felt it wrapped me in a warm hug and I was so reluctant to leave. I slept the best I had in years. Storm Debi was raging while we were there but it didn’t spoil our stay at all.

We had a wonderful week at Durham Bridge Barn.

The cottage was a home from home. The bedrooms were light and airy and the beds were amazing to sleep in. The cottage as a whole was beautifully presented and impeccably clean. The location was perfect, just outside the main lakes in a quiet wooded area for a little walk. We highly recommend this cottage for your stay in the Lake District.

Had a really lovely holiday made all the better by a beautiful barn, with everything you could wish for in order to have a lovely stress free time.

A fantastic place to stay.

Really clean. Everything catered for. Such a quiet and secluded spot as well. Very, very relaxing. The only thing I would change, and it is really nitpicking, would be to move the upstairs shower door opening to the other side as you have to slide past the hose and other features in order to get in the shower. Not a problem for us, but others could struggle. We hope to book to come back again next year, which is highly unusual for us.

The barn was all that we wanted and needed. Providing the gift box and eggs was very thoughtful.The location is delightful, so quiet and peaceful but in easy distance to many interesting places and locations, including great pubs and restaurants. Being able to begin lovely walks from the property was really good, especially being able to chat with the chickens on route. We loved the wildlife. The bird song was extraordinary, which made having a cup of tea in the garden very special. Seeing deer wandering amongst the trees was a bonus. We were lucky with the weather, which enabled us to have extremely good views of the night sky. I have been visiting The Lakes for many years and Durham Bridge Barn is the best holiday home I have stayed in. Thank you again and love to Ollie. Pam and Bob Lambourne

We had a great week staying in the barn.

It's a beautiful property and in a great location for visiting lots of attractions in and around Lake Windermere. The property was very clean and the welcome hamper was lovely. Unfortunately we found the beds very hard and uncomfortable and none of us really got any sleep. They are not suitable if you have arthritis/any kind of muscle problems or injury. Having no control over the underfloor heating also meant we were also very hot in the evenings/at night. I can't imagine staying there if the weather is warmer! The sofas could also do with an update. We ended up out and about more because we didn't find the barn comfortable. The garden is beautiful, though. We loved being able to walk up in the woods behind the barn.

Home from home with everything you need for a self catering holiday.David and Sarah were so helpful when we had a problem with the hob!The cottage was immaculate and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it !

Very clean (important), stylish, all appliances good quality and fixtures and fittings, towels, bedding etc etc the same.

Set in the Lyth valley was just what we wanted as it was only a15 min drive to Windermere/Kendal on quiet country roads. Coming back "home" to this super accommodation. No hesitation in re-booking in the future. ✳️✳️✳️✳️✳️

All decoration and appliances were of a high standard and contributed to the cosy barn feel, we all found the beds really comfy and had better sleep than we do at home. The location was great, secluded and quiet in the area itself with lovely views, whilst only a short drive to Bowness and Kendal. My sister particularly liked saying hello to the chickens in their coop :) The whole family commented when we arrived that the barn is outstanding and we had a fabulous week staying there, thank you!

The cottage is so beautiful, clean and top quality, with every thought put in to it for your comfort. David and Sarah, the owners are exceptional. So friendly! Nothing is too much trouble.

Excellent hosts and property was amazing

Cosy cottage in a wonderful setting.

The cottage was beautifully presented, and ideally situated close to many of the local attractions.

We had a meal at The Punch Bowl, which was only a few minutes drive away, and it has one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We will certainly be back to stay here again in the future. Would highly recommend!

Had a lovely relaxing week at Durham bridge barn.

This was our 2nd stay here and the cottage is beautiful, very clean and lovely and warm. Our last night was the night of the storm and the power went off but the owner very quickly bought some candles round thankfully. Would highly recommend the cottage

The only thing we would mention was the fact that the property was one of the best we have ever stayed in in the lakes for over 30 years.

Can we buy it as a permanent home !!

Really enjoyed it.

House was very very hot so would suggest underfloor heating is an option to turn on rather than turn off, but that's being very nitpicky. It was a wonderful stay and the kids loved it

A beautiful cottage in the middle of the Lyth valley.

As we were in the middle of the pandemic, eating out was limited but, everything you needed was there at the cottage. Handy for Windermere, Bowness, Kendall all 15 mins away by car.

The cottage was everything we wished for and more.

Very clean everything we needed. The gardens the surroundings and the chickens were fantastic !! The weather was amazing not a drop of rain all week. Will definitely return.
