    “Lovely cottage - very comfortable and clean.”

    The only thing I would say is that when advertised, it doesn't point out how close the owners' home is - when you step out of the property, their kitchen window is right in front of you, which meant we felt a bit overlooked and didn't get that feeling of privacy everyone craves when staying in a cottage. Apart from this aspect, it was lovely.

Tipsy Gin Cottage takes its name from the wonderful, albeit potent, damson gin that was made, to a special family recipe, every autumn by the current owners Mother from the plentiful supply of damsons that grow in the numerous orchards across the valley.Today this luxurious cottage, brimming with charm and character is a popular retreat for couples in beautiful surroundings. Nestled alongside a whitewashed farmhouse in the Lyth Valley, which has recently been included by Lonely Planet’ Beautiful World List list of the “most beautiful places on earth”, Tipsy Gin Cottage is only 20 minutes away from Lake Windermere and Bowness and a similar distance from the renowned “foodie” destination of Cartmel home to the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding and the acclaimed and Michelin award winning L’Enclume which, in 2017, was named as Britain’s Best Restaurant for the fourth year in a row. The great news is that Tipsy Gin Cottage is only a 5 walk from the popular Lyth Valley pub and excellent restaurant. == Accommodation in detail From the driveway the front door opens to a porch and beyond, the beautiful sitting room with original oak beams and an imposing feature fireplace. Comfortable leather sofa and armchair are arranged around the cosy log burning stove and a large screen Smart TV, making it the ideal to just relax in the evening with a glass of wine, or damson gin, in front of the fire to enjoy your favourite film. The smart farmhouse kitchen, with slate flagged floor, is well equipped with contemporary fitted units with granite work top and complemented by a traditional farmhouse breakfast table, Equipped with a four ring electric hob and oven, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Though there is no washing machine the owners are able to arrange a laundry service on guests behalf. The back door from the kitchen leads to a small east facing patio area with garden furniture and a private parking space for one car. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere. The valley is known for its serene agricultural landscapes, its vibrant damson blossom (and harvest – look out for locally made damson jam and damson gin from the valley in the local artisan food and farm shops) in spring, and its widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite and The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.
