Raybarrow

We had a fabulous stay at Raybarrow.

It is extremely well equipped and very well laid out. We were a party of 7 adults, 1 baby and a dog. The only small niggle is the mattresses on the single beds were not that comfortable, 1 had a deep dip in and probably needs replacing. This certainly didn’t stop us having a wonderful time and I would recommend this cottage to anyone. It is very well placed for the town of Windermere and lots of lovely walks. As we had 3 vehicles between us, we parked one car on the Broad Street car park for the week for £46. This isn’t that far away from the property and worked well. ( I think we could probably have found a space on the side of one of the roads for free if we’d tried ).

We had a great week at Raybarrow, it is well located for an easy level 5 min walk into Windermere, and the nearest bus stop.

We travelled by bus all holiday so this suited us well. Internally the accommodation is decorated to a high standard. The kitchen is lovely, very well designed, there's a lovely big dining table, and huge sofa in the lounge too. All bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely too, although some of our party found the beds uncomfortable. There's a small garden with the property, which was great for our dog, but it's very overlooked, so we didn't use it much. Also just around the corner is a fantastic community park, which again was great for dog walking, but this would also be great if you have small children. It wasn't mentioned in the listing that the house was in the middle of a residential council estate. There was some noise at night, mainly from neighbours dogs barking. However, we had such a lovely time, and internally the house is lovely, plus you would spend at least another £1000 to have a view/ garden, so I think the price reflects the location.

Fantastic home we loved our stay.

Lucky with the weather so we enjoyed the garden. Excellent location, the house was gorgeous inside just like the pictures. Very clean and what I loved was it wasn’t cluttered sometimes rentals have so much stuff/ornaments/things in cupboards just not needed The house worked well for us and our mums and we had the most relaxing stay. We hope to be able to stay again.

Had a great Easter weekend- 10 of us including 4 children.

Very comfortable house with plenty of space - so we could retreat to our own space when needed. Would definitely book again.

Didn't get good impression of sykes customer service .

Property was excellent but parking issues need addressed that's for sure. Down stairs toilet could maybe do with some hand rails for elderly guests . Apart from that really liked the accommodation and it lived up to expectations. Recommend it to friends of ours who are interested.

This house is absolutely gorgeous.

It is done to such a high standard. 9 of us stayed here for a 40th birthday celebration and it really was wonderful. The only downside is there isn’t much parking, but as we had 4 card to park, that’s not a surprise. Highly recommended.

This was the second time staying in Raybarrow, it is in the ideal location with parking which is a bonus as not many places have parking included.

We were a family of 8 adults a toddler and new born baby, the cottage met all our needs and the garden was perfect for sitting out in the day and early evening. The cottage has everything you require for your stay. It is close to the shops, bus station and railway station and there is a regular bus into Bowness, it is not too far to walk to Bowness either. I would definitely recommend staying there if you are a large family. We will be booking the cottage for our next stay in Winderemere

Lovely property in walking distance of Windermere.

Extremely well equipped, lots of crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment to cater for six or more people. Beds very clean and comfortable. Owners very helpful, the grass was quite long after a very wet rainy spell and I asked if it was possible to have it cut as the weather improved and they arranged for it to be cut that day which meant we could enjoy the enclosed very dog friendly garden. Although dog friendly there was no evidence that this was a dog friendly accommodation as it was so clean. Would definitely recommend and book again.

Had an amazing stay at Raybarrow, its a great cottage with a central location just off the high street.

There were 7 of us, and its a good size with plenty of room. Would highly recommend

Absolutely lovely place!

Perfect for the weekend. A bbq in the garden would have been nice but we managed to acquire some disposable ones. Everything else was perfect!

Raybarrow was perfect for our large family group.

The kitchen was very well equipped and the whole place was spotless on our arrival. We found it very peaceful and yet so near to the shops and a park for the children. Would definitely recommend it !!

Great house in good location.

Loved having the private parking and enclosed garden. House was super cosy and very well equipped. One of the best houses we've been in for the quantity of good glasses and plates! Bedrooms good quality, all with plenty of storage. Great bathrooms and piping hot water immediately available. Cleanliness could've been better, quite a few cobwebs!

Stayed for a two night break with the extended family.

The ground floor had plenty of room and the layout was great with the kitchen and dining area being open plan. The kitchen was fully equipped and we’ve stayed in a number of houses over the years, with basic kitchen equipment so this was definitely thought out. The TV snug was brilliant for the kids and I’m so glad there was no TV in the dining/kitchen area so the grown ups could chat. All bedrooms and bathrooms were nicely decorated, furnished and clean. If I had a complaint and I definitely don’t, then I would leave the operating instructions for a short cycle on the dishwasher. I couldn’t find a manual, but I didn’t really look that hard. The house is literally spitting distance from Windermeres main strip but tucked away enough, for no street noice. I would definitely recommend.

Only issues we had were with the en-suite bathroom.

The radiator was piping hot for 90% of our stay, the only time we found it cold was at 4am, it seemed to be red hot even when the rest of the radiators were cold. There was nowhere in the en-suite or the shower cubicle for any toiletries, even a little stick on corner shelf in the shower would be useful. The property was beautifully clean in a lovely quiet street

Lovely warm cosy cottage with everything you could need.

Kitchen well equipped, comfy settee and beds, and excellent enclosed garden for the dogs. In a good position for exploring the area with the car hardly used.

We returned after two years and the radiator in the dining room still not working, The Twin room with bunk beds the heating was not working and with Minus temperatures the kids were freezing.

Comfortable property it needs some money spent to get things working and update the furnishings.

Amazing property which has been well thought out.

Plenty of space for 10 people and had everything we needed. The bath is a 10 out 10! Will definitely be coming back for another stay!

A really lovely house in a perfect location for easy access to exploring the Lake District with or without a car.

The owners seem to take on board previous comments and suggestions and rectify them which is great. A nice enclosed garden and a really comfortable lounge. We loved the double blinds set-up in the bedrooms. Would highly recommend to any groups looking for a Lake District holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay at Raybarrow with our family and three young grandchildren.

The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen lay out and equipment suited us. Our constructive criticism is that we removed the sheepskins from the benches and also the slate placemats from the table during our stay as these are not child friendly. Given it is a property that sleeps ten, there were a few items short of ten and maybe it would be useful to provide a few more plastic plates, bowls and beakers for children or make it clear that families need to bring their own, as our family did. In general though, the kitchen was very well equipped. It was a really nice peaceful area of Windermere village, three minutes from all the central shops, cafes and restaurants and two minutes from the park, which all our children enjoyed.

Lovely cottage stay.

Couple of very minor points to make. - property was super clean apart from large cobwebs around ceiling in bedroom. -website listing did not mention that dogs would not be allowed upstairs.This was a factor in booking this property over others (which did mention this limitation)as the dog does sleep upstairs in the same room as us at home. However we made this work with the downstairs bedroom but sadly this was the smaller bedroom without ensuite -front Door is stiff to close and very noisy.Not ideal if the dog needs a wee in the early hours of the morning and you don't wish to make noise. Otherwise a lovely property and looking forward to booking again.

The property itself was lovely.

It is beautifully maintained, very comfortable and in an ideal location. My only tiny comment would be that it would be nice if the folder included instructions regarding the appliances and heating/hot water controls. Also a direct phone number for the owner (given that it proved almost impossible to speak to anyone from Sykes Cottages) My experience of Sykes Cottages administration and service on the other hand was far from satisfactory. On the Sunday before my booking on the following Saturday I telephoned the office with a few simple queries. The person I spoke to promised to get back to me by email the next day. By Wednesday I still hadn't received a reply so I telephoned again - this time following a long recorded message describing alternative methods of communication I was simply cut-off. I therefore send a message via WhatsApp - someone replied asking for a booking reference which I gave but again no response was forthcoming. Somewhat annoyingly the only message I got 2 days later was to say there was a high volume of queries and did I still require an answer - my reply was a resounding yes! On the Friday before my departure I telephoned again and the only way I could communicate with a person was to select a different option (one for individuals who have a property to let) and then ask to be transferred to customer services. The person I spoke to in customer services made a note of my queries and I emphasised that I needed someone to get back to me by the end of the day. I did get an e-mail that day but two of my queries (in relation to crockery and cooking utensils and parking for a third car) remained unanswered apparently because the local office failed to respond. However I did receive an answer to my third query confirming that the main bed in the family room would be made up as a super king rather than twin beds. Unfortunately when I arrived at the property the next day this had not happened. After an interminable length of time I finally got through on the emergency number and was assured someone would attend the next day to rectify the error. This did indeed happen but unfortunately there had been a miscommunication and they arrived with single bedding as they had been told they needed to convert the bed from a super king to twin beds. I have booked cottage accommodation with a number of companies and have never had such a poor experience. I would add that there was no option for early check in or late check out and no welcome pack, both of which have been the norm with every other company I have booked with. Further to add insult to injury on the last day of our holiday I received a terse communication describing everything we were required to do before leaving the property and telling me if we left anything behind it would cost a minimum of £30 to return. Unfortunately much as we loved Raybarrow I am very unlikely to book again with with Sykes. There is a lot you could learn from your competitors - Coquet cottages for example who provide an exemplary service and never fail to communicate with their customers.

We had a fabulous stay at this beautiful house for Easter.

Everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds are so comfortable. The kids absolutely loved all being together in 1 room. Would highly recommend.

Stayed at Raybarrow, with 8 adults, 2 children an our dog, this place was spotless, it had a warmth about it, an loved the long dining table were we could all sit around, I would have no hesitation recommending this place to stay in Windermere, also close to all amenities

Great holiday in Windermere again, Raybarrow excellent not far off main shops, and eating out places Raybarrow very nice just a couple of suggestions kitchen only thing missing was a crockery drainer on the sink drainer.

There did not seem to be any information what to do with bedding and towels on end of holiday. Otherwise would gladly go back again

We had a lovely stay at Raybarow as a family of six.

We made the use of the ground floor bedroom with shower room which was well appointed however could do with a non slip mat as my 80 year old in-laws found it quite slippery. The garden is well kept as was the whole house. You can walk down to Windermere and the local shops were well positioned. We can honestly say we had a fantastic time.

Raybarrow was a fab place for our group of nine.

What lovely well presented house Raybarrow is and the location is ideal for local shops etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending! The only down side was the wheelie bin being full on arrival (Friday) and emptied on a Monday which sadly meant that the bin was also full on our departure - I’m sure a second bin would rectify this! This was the only negative so overall A+A+A for Raybarrow and Windermere!

Loved the property.

Front gate does need to be sorted as it was very difficult to open. House was very comfortable and close to all shops and restaurants in Windermere. Had a great holiday.

Lovely property and garden, and well equipped but very overlooked.

Our request (3 weeks prior to arrival) that the family room beds be linked to a super king was not carried out but we managed to do it ourselves. As it is recommended for the elderly and less able, the downstairs bedroom would benefit from a chair.

Excellent property

Well designed and furnished property.

Useful cloakroom and entrance hall to store coats/shoes/prams. Kitchen and dining room well appointed and spacious. Living room very useful to relax and read a book. Bedrooms were great and well designed; beds comfortable and linen fresh. Bathroom appears to be recently remodelled and felt very luxurious. Only issues would be with amenities - only 4 toilet rolls supplied (including none in the downstairs loo); no oil, sauces or anything for cooking (which means you have to buy a whole litre just for one week); no kitchen roll supplied; and there could be more bin bags (only 2 supplied for the whole week). Be warned, there is also no option to recycle anything. This means that the bin fills up very quickly and it's disappointing that recycling isn't available at all. However, all said, we loved our stay and would recommend (just remember to bring your own cooking oil!).

Fantastic location, very clean and lovely decor. A few things which unfortunately let the trip down: - not enough toilet rolls for the whole stay/amount of people - only one key for the whole group - no dish cloth/tea towel or disinfectant spray Overall a great stay and would return

We really enjoyed our stay and the property!

The location was brilliant, a great size for 6 adults and very clean with modern bathrooms. My only pieces of criticism is that I think a padlock would be good to be placed on the gate to the entrance of the property. It didn’t feel overly safe that somebody could just open the gate and enter the property with ease, a simple lock would fix that. Overall we had a brilliant stay and highly recommend

Fantastic property, just a small observation that I feel would improve it, outside bench and light and power socket, fire pit if possible, some radiators were hotter than others, beautiful dining table, needs sanding and waxing please, before it’s too late, all in all a great property, would recommend without hesitation.

The cottage was very comfortable for the six of us and the two four legged friends.

Lots of space in the communal spaces and bedrooms. We loved the kitchen /dining area. The beds were very comfortable and showers hot and powerful. It was a wonderful place to return to after a long day of walking. Only issue we had was with the parking bollard which sprung up when we reversed and scratched the side of our car. Also when we returned one evening the cleaners for the cottage next door where parked in our allocated space. When challenged they said that it was a public parking area and did not belong to Raybarrow, which left us no where to park until they left. There are signs that clearly state that the spaces belong to Raybarrow so it was quite upsetting that they challenged this.

Such a beautiful house, in an amazing location.

Bin overflowing on Friday arrival - bins are collected on Mondays so nowhere to put wknd rubbish for 10 people.

Raybarrow is a lovely property in a quiet location.

It was very clean on arrival with most amenities that you would need (except for a tumble dryer) The listing does not state there is a washing machine either. Our only feedback is: The kitchen area is very cold if the fire isn’t lit, of which you have to buy your own logs, kindling and fire lighters. Heaters were provided but the area in the kitchen just didn’t hold any heat. But then upstairs was sometimes unbearably hot in the night and we couldn’t suss out the heating, as there was no clear instructions how to turn it down. The dishwasher leaked when it was on. Iv informed of this already. We had a lovely 3 night stay.

Lost property was left and it has been a nightmare to say the LEAST!

Cottage was lovely and clean in a nice quiet area would highly recommend it.

Raybarrow was perfect for our family staying 2 nights in Windermere.

It is so central to the centre, just a short walk to the top of the street where all shops, bars and restaurants are. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Whilst overall the property was lovely and refurbished to a high standard there were a few things that should have been picked up / rectified prior to our arrival.

Back gate damaged. Downstairs toilet seat loose. We did call and you did put right. Downstairs toilet roll holder loose. Still loose ! Downstairs toilet door had dropped (screws missing - only 2 in hinges) still outstanding as didn't have a philips or would have rectified myself. Cooker 'Timer" knob missing. Bollard damaged and code not required to lock. Obviously with a £300 house keeping bond in place it would have been nice for someone to check us in and out when holiday completed so any issues could be raised at the time. These issues did not spoil our holiday but as it was an expensive high end property we feel these should have been rectified prior to our arrival. Would we stay again - yes absolutely. Great property, house is amazing and comfy, location was good shops and pub nearby but a bit of a walk to the bottom for the boats etc with kids.

Loved our stay at Raybarrow cottage.

Very close to the amenities, and Windermere was walking distance. Garden was brilliant for the two dogs to explore in. The cottage didn't get 5 stars as the ground floor sink was very small, shower made up for this. Will book to stay there again.

Our stay at Raybarrow was like home from home.

All facilities necessary are there. A lot of attention to detail.. The only negative was that the beds were a little hard for our liking. But nonetheless a very enjoyable stay. Thank you

The house was perfect for our stay - comfy beds, a lovely big bath, great entertaining space, and cosy living room.

The log burner was also a really welcome addition! The kitchen was ample to cook a dinner party for 6 adults, with plenty of crockery etc, and it was so handy having a great park right at the end of the road for the kids. We were 3 couples with 3 kids between us, and all would return for another trip.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Raybarrow and what a beautiful cottage it is.

We all had a fabulous time and the cottage was perfect for our family needs. Beautifully decorated and well equipped with a nice sunny garden. The cottage is in a great location, 5 minute walk into windermere and also a good size park with stream at the other end of the road to let the kids & dogs run around . Would definitely return to Raybarrow.

Nice and close to local amenities, yet also close to Windermere and in the heart of the most beautiful place in this country. The cottage was gorgeous and beautifully decorated. Amazing.

7 of us stayed for 2 nights, when arriving everything was clean and ready for us to start our holiday!

Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were, the size of the kitchen which had a really good sized oven and fridge for all the food we needed! The garden was lovely too however the weather wasn’t always the best to enjoy it unfortunately. We would happily stay again!

We loved our visit to Raybarrow.

It really is luxury accommodation, with absolutely everything you might need to enjoy your stay. Ample room for multi generational families to get together. Just a short walk into Windermere and all its facilities. Having parking at the property was such a bonus as the town does get very busy and nearby streets have restrictions on length of parking. Beds and sofa were very comfortable, showers highly efficient, cooking in the kitchen was a pleasure and the level of equipment was perfect. The crockery and glasses cupboard was a joy to behold! Absolutely beautiful cottage set in lovely grounds, decorated to a very high standard.

All the bedrooms were very comfortable and we loved the flow of the house. The open fire in the lounge made our stay complete on a wet, rainy Sunday. Plenty of bathroom facilities for all guests and the main bathroom was just delightful with its walk in shower and roll top bath. Impressed with the ease of check in and contact from the host. Plenty of parking and the centre is less than a stone throw away, great location for walks and sightseeing. Can't wait to stay again soon

We stayed at Raybarrow for 3 days early March, it was our first trip to the lake district and the superb weather was an added bonus.

The house is literally a five minute walk into the centre of Windermere so no driving to the shops, pubs and restaurants. 2 parking places (3 at a pinch) there is an enclosed garden and seating area so its safe for the kids to play, although there is a park just round the corner two minutes walk away for them to really let off steam. The house had recently been refurbished and I was really surprised that the house is really as nice as the pictures (which is not always the case) There is a great social space in the dining/kitchen with a cosy log fire for the colder times. Alternatively a smaller lounge with tv and log fire. The house was spotless and really couldn't fault it. There are plenty of glasses, cutlerly,pots and pans etc so no need to take any of that sort of thing with you. We had a cross section of age groups at our visit and the house and area seemed to suit everyone. Will defiantly be back, (oh and the lake district around there is beyond beautiful.) Paul
