“The lodge was badly needing an up date.”

Unable to open the left hand patio door. Lounge & kitchen were very tired, kitchen table badly marked, sofa not very good condition, lack of cushions. Curtains covered in mould around the hemline. Some of the pots were dirty. Lack of kitchen cleaning items, 1 very thin cloth, 1 pot cleaner, bin liners and a few dishwasher tablets. No washing up liquid or surface cleaner. Had to buy cleaning items and cloths. No hand soap in any of the bathrooms nor the kitchen. Mattress on right hand side in ...

Mattress on right hand side in twin room isn’t fit for purpose. I tried twice to contact you regarding this and eventually gave up after being on hold for ages. The en suite shower is filthy. Mould on the tiles, black around the seal and the plug hole. Also very slow to drain. Charger point not working. Nothing to clean the bathroom with, again we bought stuff to do this ourselves. I wouldn’t even touch the toilet brushes, they were disgusting. Skirting mouldy and rotting in places. Window sill covered in dust. Curtains in king bedroom also mouldy, mould on the carpet at the window. All bedroom carpets were badly in need of a clean. Outside furniture is also needing to be replaced. We were very disappointed with the lodge, we have stayed in an other lodge on this site and 1 on the site at the other side of Hawkshead and there is no comparison. Definitely not a 5 star lodge.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
