The area on your doorstep is stuffed with excellent walking routes; no need to drive to a starting point. Lake Windermere or the passenger and car ferry taking you across to the more lively side of the lake, providing access to shops, restaurants, hire boats and Lake District family attractions in Bowness - including the Royalty Cinema, Old Laundry Theatre and the famous World of Beatrix Potter attraction. (Please check the times of return ferries). The Cuckoo Brow is the nearest country pub offering great food, with the Tower Bank Arms only a short drive (couple of minutes). The close-by hamlet of Near Sawrey was the author's home, and her traditional Lakeland cottage can be visited at Hill Top. Moss Eccles tarn was another of her favourite places and it’s a lovely walk over Claife Heights.
