    “The Graythwaite cottages were absolutely gorgeous and in the perfect peaceful setting.”

    added bonus of the farm shop and swimming pool to enjoy, just disappointed we missed out on the pizzas! We had only one tiny issue with the oven not working - but this was simply that the power had been turned off and the clock needed setting for it to work. Quick text to one of the numbers in the info booklet and we had an answer. WiFi didn’t work and signal is an issue there however we were happy for the tech break. Have recommended here to lots of people and will hopefully be back in the ...

The property

Newlands is a first-floor apartment situated in Hawkshead, Cumbria.

It is set in a 5,000 acre private estate of quaint cottages and has views across the rolling countryside beyond.

Internally, the owner has renovated the property, but have kept many of the old features, such as the original stone fireplace which give the cottage a mass of character.

The open-plan lounge has a range of furniture delightfully arranged, with the focus point being the stunning woodburning stove.

The matching sofas and carpet, give the room a rustic cottage feel.

Meals can be enjoyed at the dining table, with seating for up to four people.

The kitchen has a wonderful set of wooden units coinciding with the hardwood flooring, as well as plenty of counter space to prepare all types of home-cooked meals.

The property has two bedrooms; one king-size with an en-suite shower room and one twin.

There is a separate bathroom with a bath and shower over, to suit your needs.

The bedrooms are minimally decorated with a selection of wooden furniture and lovely matching bedside tables and a chest of drawers which also acts as dressing tables.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy!
