    “WOW! What a place!”

Absolutely stunning. We loved staying here for a week. All the rooms were gorgeous and very spacious. The decor is done throughout the house beautifully.

The property

Recently renovated to the highest standard, Ben House is an exceptional early Victorian property which offers spacious, elegant and luxurious holiday accommodation in a peaceful corner of Grasmere. Originally built as a gentleman's residence in the 1830s, the house benefits from many original features: a beautiful tiled hallway and kitchen, high ceilings, large windows, feature fireplaces and imposing staircase. However, it also incorporates bespoke luxurious bathrooms with the comfort of underfloor heating, a designer kitchen, local slate floors, quality furnishings and Herdwick wool carpets. You will be able to relax in the elegant sitting room, socialise in the spacious dining room and retreat to welcoming and comfortable bedrooms. The short stroll down the lane or across the fields brings you into the heart of Grasmere village with a fine array of tea rooms and shops, and a range of places to eat from local bistros to traditional village pubs, and the Michelin-starred Forestside just across the lane from the property. Walks abound in this central part of the Lake District. There are gentle rambles along the lakeshore and up Easedale or you can head higher onto the fells; Fairfield, Helvellyn and Helm Crag are accessible from the door. == Accommodation in detail A traditional gate opens onto a secluded garden and easy parking for 3 cars. Enter the property through the Victorian-style sun room and from here, step into a beautiful hallway; the original tiled floor leads to the imposing staircase to the first floor. On the ground floor there are two stunning, generously proportioned reception rooms. The bright and welcoming sitting room has comfortable sofas, feature fireplace with log-burning stove, Smart TV, beautiful parquet floor, high ceilings and tall windows complete with original shutters allowing the light to flood in. The spacious dining room is ideal for every occasion, from special family dinners to hearty breakfasts before a day on the fells. During the day, the comfortable armchairs in the south-facing bay window are ideally placed so that you can relax and enjoy the view. On cooler evenings, a feature gas fire adds to the atmosphere, making this room cosy whatever the time of year. The designer kitchen is equipped to a very high standard with gas hob, slide and hide electric double oven, microwave, dishwasher and larder fridge/freezer. The utility room has a washing machine, a tumble drier and a drinks fridge. The cloakroom with additional WC is also ideal for drying all your boots and coats. Upstairs on the first floor there are three beautiful bedrooms. The master bedroom, with lovely views, has a kingsize bed and a spacious, luxurious ensuite bathroom with free-standing feature bath, walk-in shower, basin and WC. The second bedroom can either be a superking or twin room (please specify when booking) and also enjoys lovely views. The final bedroom is a little smaller but offers excellent views from the window seat to the mountainside that rises high above the valley. This room has a kingsize bed and a smart ensuite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. Finally, there is a spacious, luxurious family bathroom with double ended bath, walk-in shower, basin and WC. All bathrooms have the benefit of underfloor heating. Ben House has a mature, secluded garden, a wildlife pond and a generous south facing patio with outdoor furniture, perfect for alfresco dining. There is a second sitting-out area with seating which catches the morning sun. Private parking is available for three cars and there is a garage with ample bike storage. The owners respectfully point out that as the wildlife pond in the garden does not have a cover, parents are requested to remain vigilant and not leave young children unaccompanied in the garden. Location Nestled in the very heart of the Lakes, Grasmere is a truly delightful place for a holiday in peaceful surroundings. With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to stroll around Rydal and Grasmere lakes or perhaps venture up Silver How and Helm Crag. Rising behind the property is the impressive Fairfield Horseshoe - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice. However, a holiday in Grasmere isn't just for walkers. This historic Lake District village is famous for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth. He lived in the village at Dove Cottage which is open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. The National Trust's Allen Banks can also be visited and there are several art galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of guest artists. The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the heart of the Lakes, from local shops and a supermarket to quaint tea rooms and acclaimed restaurants, including the Good Food Guide listed Jumble Room and the Michelin Star Forestside. The famous Swan has a cosy bar and Tweedies offers an impressive range of craft beer and live music. Grasmere is ideally situated for exploring the Lake District with Rydal Water, Ambleside and Lake Windermere to the south, or Keswick and Derwent Water to the north. The breathtaking Langdale Valley and the Lake District's third largest lake, Coniston, are also easily accessible by car.
