“This apartment is in a great location and spotlessly clean.”

Whilst the view is great the photograph in the Sykes listing gives the impression that the apartment is at the front looking down on the lake. In fact there ar two blocks one behind the one shown in the photograph. Waterhead Retreat is the end apartment to the right of the rear block. However this did not affect our enjoyment as the view up the lake is wonderful. We would love to return in the future and cannot recommend it highly enough

The property

A superb 3rd floor penthouse apartment with a lovely view which has to be seen to be fully appreciated and forming part of this select development at Waterhead on the fringe of Ambleside.

Waterhead boasts two delightful restaurant / bars overlooking the lake together with a few shops and as its name suggests there are steamers regularly coming and going from the head of Windermere Lake to take you to a variety of destinations.

Ambleside village is but a short stroll away teeming with excellent restaurants, local shops and pubs to tempt you out and walks are in abundance straight from the door including Jenkins Crag, Todd Crag and Loughrigg Fell.

The beautifully landscaped two acre gardens circumscribe these apartments and lead to many vantage points, with strategically placed seating to further enjoy the wondrous scenery.

Situated on the third floor, this beautiful retreat can be approached by stairs or lift making it an ideal holiday home for young and old at any time of the year.

== Accommodation in detail A private parking space is just outside with further spaces available; a security entry system and choice of stairs to the third floor or a lift.

A private entrance leads into a spacious hallway and space for walking gear; open into the light and airy open plan living space and catch your first sight of that wonderful view, wander out onto your balcony and gaze out over Lake Windermere.

Comfy furnishings to relax in and admire the views and dining also overlooking the lake.

The kitchen has everything you need.

There are two bedrooms, one double with en-suite power shower room and one twin which has its own bathroom with bath and show attachment.

Outside the gardens are a real feature and yet another place to admire the scenery. Location This super-stylish Ambleside holiday bolt-hole takes a fantastic location; only 50 metres from Lake Windermere's shore and Windermere Lake Cruises at Waterhead Pier.

The property is located on the main route through the Lakes making it ideally positioned for travel to all the sights of the Lake District.

It is also just a very short stroll from the centre of Ambleside village.

On the northern shores of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is one of the Lake District's most cosmopolitan communities.

You'll lose yourself in sophisticated shops, sample local produce in cafes and delis, and try acclaimed Lake District restaurants - favoured even by Gordon Ramsay!

Surrounded by Lakeland Fells and walking routes, Ambleside village is a traditional gathering point for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

You'll pick up all sorts of tips in the expert outdoor shops, and find route guides available at the Ambleside Tourist Information Centre.

If you're looking for historic interest or a bit of culture, there's plenty to see.

The village's much-photographed 'Bridge House' is one of the oldest and smallest houses in the Lake District.

The Roman fort Galava is just hundreds of yards from this property, and poet William Wordsworth's former family home can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens.

With the A591 providing easy access to historic Grasmere and beyond, you'll find endless Lake District attractions within reach.

Our tip is to take a Sunday drive from Ambleside over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass - your scenic route to Ullswater with lunch on the shores of yet another picture postcard lake.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
