What guests are saying
It was a shame that our entry was delayed by the extra cleaning required from the previous guests, as a result the extension of a hour for our leaving was a bonus.
This is a nice large house and good for our family get together, apart from the relatively small fridge / freezer. We enjoyed our time here and the reception rooms were more than adequate to accommodate our party size enabling the conversations and fun.
Overall, our stay at Grove house was decent.
The location is in a good place in a small town with good access to the western lakes. The house is really big, as you’d expect with that many bedrooms, but be aware that three of the bedrooms are on the “ground floor” which very much feels like the basement and unfortunately does smell like damp, despite being well furnished with modern furniture etc. Everything was very clean and comfortable, but we did feel like the pictures did a better job at advertising the property in a very high standard, whereas it was actually missing things from the photos like decorative plants, flowers, cushions, certain pieces of furniture, et cetera. This is very common with holiday homes but we felt like the property felt a little lifeless and could’ve done with some caring touches around the home to make it feel less like a churn of guests in and out where they couldn’t leave disposable things that couldn’t be cared for or replaced instantly. We were a little disappointed with the games room out the back which is looking and feeling worse for wear. None of the LED signs, which we know are decorative and for show, worked at all, the table tennis bats were in bad condition and the whole setup of the games table felt a bit janky. There are a few other tiny things to mention such as some plug sockets not working, peeling wallpaper in various places around the house, but really these are minor things that we are nitpicking on but for the price of the stay would expect to be better maintained. FYI, unlike most large houses that we have all stayed in around the country, there was no welcome basket, drinks, basic food left for us to get our trip started or as a “welcome” after our 8 hour drive. Again, this wasn’t advertised or necessarily expected, but given that this is very common practice across other large properties in the countryside, we were a little bit disappointed to not see even a bottle of milk and some bread, basic condiments etc left for us. These things cost the property management virtually nothing in the long run but make a world of difference for guest satisfaction. So to summarise, the property is very spacious and can accommodate loads of people for a long-term stay, but could do with a little bit more care and attention on the maintenance side - so we just can’t justify a five star experience for the price, especially when other properties of a similar size in different parts of the country are cheaper, better maintained, don’t have a damp lower floor and have basic extras included in the price.
The property is a lovely old house with plenty of space for all guests which was great ,the hot tub and games room a brill addiction ,although a dart board would have been good .
The house its self is in need of some Tlc ,taps in bottom bathroom sink do not work ,house checker was informed, also dining room is definitely in need of decorating and a new carpet ,it was thread bare in the door way ,this was a shame as it let the house down made it look shabby on first impression. Also we were asked to put laundry into yellow bags ,but no bags were provided And only 1 tea towel provided for 14 guests Just one other thing to mention the house has no sign to say grove house or if it does not one of us saw it . Thank you Mel close
