Holmrook 3.1 miles. Nestled in picturesque Ravenglass, the only coastal village within the Lake District National Park, with panoramic views over the estuary at the confluence of 3 rivers, Waterside provides a comfortable and stylish retreat from which to explore the beautiful local coast and countryside or simply savour the views from within and soak up every sunset. A former boat house and sail loft on the site of a Roman quay and warehouse, Waterside offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a holiday with family or friends literally at the water’s edge. Upon arrival, park in your allocated parking space, round the corner and climb up a couple of steps to reach your front door and make your way into your new home from home to be charmed by the thoughtfully laid-out open-plan, cosy living space, traditionally decorated with exposed beams and a rustic woodburning stove. Perch at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine as the designated chef makes use of the fantastic range of amenities provided in the kitchen to prepare a hearty meal before gathering together to recount the day’s adventures at the dining table as you indulge. Settle down for the evening in a sumptuous spot on the sofa, flicking on the Smart TV with a Sky TV Q box to watch your favourite movie as the room is gently warmed with the glow of the woodburning stove. Escape the excitement and head upstairs to pour in the bubbles and soak your muscles in the family bathroom, or opt for a quick rinse by making use of the en-suite shower room.
When sleep calls, retire to one of the three well-presented bedrooms to rest your head, with the choice between a king-size, a small double and a twin, providing flexible sleeping arrangements for a variety of party makeups.
In the morning, enjoy a leisurely wake-up maybe enjoying a coffee taking in the estuary views across to Drigg Dunes Nature Reserve from your bed or step outside to take a seat at the patio table. Stroll from your front door to discover the remains of the Ravenglass Roman Bath House, established in 130 AD, from which the Hadrian’s Wall cycle track starts. Catch a hawk flying display at Muncaster Castle, or wander along the banks of the estuary and finish with a Ravenglass ice cream taking in the varied sights and sounds of marine bird life on the waterfront green. For those seeking adventure, embark upon one of the many mountain bike, road bike or walking routes departing from your front door. Alternatively, if water is your thing with 3 rivers meeting in the estuary there is wide scope for paddle boarders, canoeists or kayakers.
Board the heritage, narrow-gauge steam train at the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway to enjoy a scenic ride through the picturesque countryside into the heart of the West Cumbrian fells. On your return there is a choice of pub or hotel restaurant serving delicious food and local ales. Make memories that will last a lifetime with a stay at Waterside.

The property left a lot to be desired including a lounge with an amazing view that you couldn’t see when sitting down, an en-suite shower room so small it was barely usable, stained sofas, dirty cushions, wardrobes that held almost nothing and little or no heating unless we fed the wood burner at our own expense.
I would not recommend this house to others and would not stay again myself.

The heating is fully adjustable and together with a quick guide at the side of the thermostat, our welcome note encourages guests to contact us if they experience any problems. It is such a shame that you didn't as we could have adjusted the temperature to meet your needs. The log burner is a lovely extra facility to have. We do provide a generous starter pack and leave it laid ready to light. With regards to the mark on one of the sofas - it had been through the washing machine. I was waiting for a spare day between bookings to have a more intensive go and am pleased to report that this time it has been successful. In hindsight a reassuring note, that the matter was in hand, would have been beneficial. It's great that that you took in the amazing views for which we get so many compliments. I enjoy the views from the sofa and other guests have as well but we are very sorry you were not able to enjoy this. The en-suite is an added bonus for a cottage. Our second stay in this very special cottage.
Perfectly located to enjoy the ever-changing estuary vistas and dramatic sunsets. Stylishly furnished, cosy and well-equipped. There's much to do in the immediate area. A miniature railway runs from the village into the heart of one of the Lake District's most beautiful valleys. And the village's several inns offer a warm Cumbrian welcome and good food. Highly recommended.

This was one of the cleanest and best equipped properties we have ever stayed in.
Add to that a big comfy bed and a view to die for...well some days we had to force ourselves out! Lovely walks from the door, fantastic food at The "Inn at Ravenglass" and of course we had to go on the train. We'd love to go back some time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Fantastic stay in a wonderful property.
We loved the peace and tranquility of the views and the house. The whole house was cosy and comfortable, plenty of space for four people. The kitchen had everything we needed. The master bedroom is exquisite such a restful space to spend time. Pennington Arms is just across the street, friendly and cosy bar. Walks around the house are fabulous. We would love to return here.

Fantastic property location.
Car didn't move for several days as used La'al Ratty to get about for walks around Eskdale. Pennington food superb as was the Santo Bridge. House very comfortable and well equipped. Thank you for another excellent stay.

Waterside felt like a proper home - it has all the home comforts you could possibly want and the views from the picture windows are truly wonderful.

An absolutely beautiful cottage in a peaceful unique waterside setting.
We loved watching the tide come in and out on the estuary and saw many shore birds. The cottage is 5 star and has wonderful finishing touches for every comfort.

We stayed at this beautiful cottage over the Christmas period and had a very pleasant experience.
The property was spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped with ample facilities, and the cottage was warm and welcoming, particularly with the log burner. The television provided a full range of channels, which was appreciated. The location was ideal for relaxation and walking, and the surrounding views were truly spectacular.

This is our second time at waterside and it didn’t disappoint.
It’s an absolute gem, a real home from home, Sarah has thought of everything to make your stay as easy and as comfy as possible. Waking up in the morning and looking out over the water after a restful nights sleep in the most comfortable bed and bedding, will always be one of my favourite memories, then you get to go downstairs, open the shutters to that view that is so picturesque, light a fire and make a coffee in the fully equipped kitchen, who can ask for anything more relaxing. As for Ravenglass it’s a hidden spot in the lakes but not to be over looked. The pubs are great as is the railway and the walks directly out of the cottage are breathtaking.

What a find!
As regular visitors to Cumbria, we wanted to try a different area, and Waterside ticked all the boxes. The accommodation is clean, modern (with original features), warm, easy to find, easy to park, and what a great location. We loved the views from the property and the local walks/pubs. Easy driving to most places and a quiet little village base. The accommodation was well-equipped and comfortable. I would highly recommend it.

What a beautiful property Waterside is.
From start to finish it felt like a home from home. Wonderfully decorated, very comfortable, well equiped and with amazing views. I could have watched the water coming in and out of the Estuary all day long, in fact sometimes I did. The master suite is gorgeous and so nice to sit in the window seats with a book watching the water. . Like Arnie, we will be back :)

We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful holiday home.
The whole place was squeaky clean. We chose to eat at the house several nights and the kitchen had everything needed to easily cook family meals. The local area was lovely and peaceful and wow- that view from the living room was windows was just breathtaking-I miss it!! Thank you for a perfect stay.

What an absolute gem of a property.
Comfortable, clean and wonderful panoramic views of the estuary from both downstairs and the master bedroom. The owners have obviously taken great care to furnish and equip the house as we had no issues cooking in a couple of nights - a four slice toaster is all that we felt we missed. We have stayed in Ravenglass several times and it never fails to be just so relaxing, with the birds on the estuary and the sunsets over the waters. La'al Ratty means that we can leave the car parked yet still walk within Eskdale and the Pennington (almost opposite) serves fantastic food. Ventured a little further afield too - Hardknott Pass to walk Crinkle Crags and Bowfell and Elterwater, Grange Over Sands, Hodbarrow Lagoon at Millom (ideal for a bigger shop as there is a Tesco store). We hope to be back next year. Thank you for the drinks and biscuits.

Excellent holiday cottage with fantastic views of the ever changing sea.
There is everything you need at the property and the location is amazing. Ravenglass had 3 eating/drinking outlets, 2 railway stations but no shop (only 2 miles down the road though). I would thoroughly recommend this property. It’s not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Waterside is a lovely comfortable place to stay, well placed on the western side of the Lakes.

What a superb place, everything was spotless, and waking up to the views every morning was a bonus.
From the outside it resembled the TARDIS, but inside was huge with plenty of room for a family to have their own space. Sarah was very helpful sending e-mails with pictures as to where to park etc, and a folder full of useful information and another with all the Instructions for all the appliances, We cannot rate this lovely place highly enough, we didn't want to come home.

All I can say is WOW.
Waterside is amazing, as soon as you walk in you feel at home, the cottage is so clean we felt like the first people to ever stay there, it has everything you need, plus a lovely welcoming note and gift, then you lift the James Bond shutters and the view hits you and you never want to leave. But you do because the surrounding area has so much to offer. We stayed for our 25th wedding anniversary and had a lovely time with a mixture of chilled days and days out, finished off with drinks and food in one of the 3 local pubs. The information given from the owner before coming up about local roadworks was invaluable as well. Thank you Amazing cottage and hosts. Already booked for next year can’t wait

An excellent cottage.
Plenty of room, well equipped& warm. Amazing estuary views from the large picture windows. A nice welcome gift & note from the owners. Two comments for consideration by the owners. The mattress on the main bed is very firm. We used the duvet covers from the two single beds to make a mattress topper. The cottage should have some basic cooking staples - salt, pepper & cooking oil as a minimum. All in all, a high quality cottage in a lovely location. Recommended.

All the beds do have Dorma Full Forever mattress toppers on them to give guests some flexibility. Glorious, well maintained property in a superb location with an incredible view over the estuary.
Sarah was very accommodating with regards our requirements for non-feather bedding/cushions and went out of her way to keep us informed of potentially disruptive work next door. We will certainly look to coming back in the future and highly recommend Waterside to anyone looking to stay in Ravenglass.

Waterside is a really comfortable house in a beautiful location.
Waking up to the ever changing beauty of the Estuary every morning was a delight. The house was presented in pristine condition. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends and hope to be able to stay again next year.

There's no doubt that Waterside is an amazing place to stay.
It is fantastic to watch the tides and to see the sun and moon set over the estuary and sand dunes. When the tide is really high, as it was when we were there, it's wonderful to watch shoals of fish dart around the grass and rocks. The house is stylishly decorated. The only down sides were that the loo didn't flush very well and the garden is overlooked and tatty and is the location for the bins. We weren't inspired to sit there. There is a military firing range near to the property. This didn't cause any problems whilst we were there but it would be useful to mention this on the listing as I found out a few days beforehand and was really anxious in the days leading up to the holiday as we always choose somewhere that is really quiet. So overall Waterside is a wonderful place to stay but very much overpriced compared to other cottages we've stayed in with Sykes.

Thank you for also highlighting some areas that will allow us to review and improve where possible - steps are already underway. My neighbour's cottage, that backs onto the patio, is being painted and we have repositioned the bins and used a wooden screen to improve the aesthetic while maintaining ease for guests to recycle. We are also pleased that the firing range did not turn out to be a problem for you despite it be being operational for part of your stay. We did feel confident in our reassurance that we gave to you, prior to your arrival, which was based on our experience at the property and local area together with the fact that no other guests had raised an issue about the firing range. With regard to the price - the timing of your stay is still considered peak season and the prices drop off considerably through the winter out of peak times. All the best Sarah and John
We had an amazing week away at waterside from the day we arrived till the day we left.
The property was spotless, well furnished and had all we needed to make our week away an amazing experience, the extra touches such as condiments, cleaning supplies, books, leaflets, instructions for the property and welcome basket was much appreciated. There were no negatives to raise only positives and good feedback from us all, the property, views and layout of the property only enhanced our experience we did not want to go home. The attention to detail in the cottage was wonderful, everything we wanted was there, clean and in good condition.
The only vaguely negative comment we had was the cutlery - whilst abundant was very lightweight. The views were amazing and it was great to be able to see the changes in the tides and watch the many birds - all from the comfort of the cottage. It was a pleasure to stay there.

Waterside is a brilliant cottage, a real home from home, from a well equipped kitchen to lovely comfy beds.
The cottage was absolutely spotless and beautifully furnished. We had two very high tides during our week and it was amazing hearing the water lapping just outside the window and to see the wildlife at low tide. The wine and biscuits were a much appreciated bonus, as was the little note from Sarah and John and apart from the weather, we couldn't have asked for a better week. Waterside is an absolutely beautiful property.
The location is outstanding and the views over the estuary are wonderful. We came here to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, what a special place this is and we were so lucky with the weather. Went to Wastwater, a very special place. The beach on the opposite side of the dunes, Drigg, a lovely place to walk. Didn't feel the need to go far and we would definitely love to come back. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief 2 night stay at Waterhouse in early February 2024.
We arrived just in time to watch the sun set over the estuary with amazing views from the house and so peaceful. The house itself is extremely welcoming, cosy, well equipped and warm. Everything has been considered for guests to have a comfortable stay. We enjoyed our time in the house sitting in front of the wood burner and playing the games provided whilst watching the flow of the estuary. Ravenglass is a lovely little village, we walked up to Muncaster Castle, through the woods and finished with the local ice cream at the little cafe on the main street (highly recommended). We will definitely be booking again in the near future. Thank you Sarah for the excellent customer service and it was lovely to meet you on the day of our departure.

Beautifully renovated historic house right on the estuary with absolutely amazing views, especially for sunsets over the water.
Everything needed for a comfortable stay is provided. Excellent communication with the owner and very helpful information provided in advance made for a seemless arrival. Ravenglass itself is a characterful village, very welcoming local people, three pubs serving food (although check ahead on opening times out of season) and amazing walks from the doorstep

Everything was exactly as advertised and we had a lovely break to see in the New Year.
Even though the weather was a little dreary, we were able to get outside and enjoy trips to Eskdale and Wastwater. We particularly appreciated the open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area for cooking, jigsaw puzzles and relaxing with a cosy fire and beautiful views over the estuary. The communication was excellent and the owners were in touch with us to make sure we had all the details we required before we arrived.

Waterside was absolutely perfect for us, with brilliant walks from the house, or just a short drive.
The house just about had everything we needed, and more, made good use of the garage for the bikes too, although we did more walking than cycling, we did manage a brilliant ride up to wasdale head for a cup of tea. Just to watch the tide coming in and out, and all the wading birds was awesome. An added bonus was the Xmas fare in the village hall, coffee and cake was really nice, as was the locals, who made us really welcome

What a marvellous stay at Waterside!
The owners have thought of everything and made the accommodation very comfortable and welcoming. The views across the estuary from the panoramic windows downstairs and the bay windows in the master bedroom are amazing: it was very therapeutic to watch the tide moving in and out. Sarah and John's excellent communication and provision of little touches (such as everything needed to start the holiday straight away) were much appreciated. One of the best holiday accommodation we have ever had.
Exactly as described, beautiful property, fully equipped with everything you might need and amazing views. Owners replied quickly to any queries. Downstairs bedroom perfect for our teenagers that might want to stay up a bit later and open plan lounge/kitchen meant we were all together as a family while cooking and eating. Ravenglass is gorgeous with plenty of walks. We enjoyed a trip on the ratty and used the train to visit St Bees, Seascale for fish and chips, and Whitehaven and had a drive in to Keswick so great location. We would absolutely stay at this property again if we were to return to the area.

We absolutely loved staying in waterside, everything we could possibly need was to hand and we immediately felt completely at home.
Our weather during the week was a little unpredictable but with the ever changing views out of the windows we really didn't mind staying indoors sometimes, it was a bit chilly a couple of nights which gave us a great excuse to light the fire,a novelty for us! Ravenglass itself is a lovely little village and we enjoyed eating and drinking in each of the inns/pubs.We also sampled the excellent ice-cream. All in all we had a lovely time and would recommend a stay in Waterside to anyone thinking about heading that way.

When we walked into "Waterside" we were very pleasantly surprised by the open planned living, dining area and kitchen, and as we looked at each of the three bedrooms, we found them to be just as lovely.
We were particularly impressed with the master suite, amazing. "Waterside" is a peaceful, relaxing and very comfy house to stay in. The views from the picture windows are amazing. All rooms are light and bright and look out onto the estuary where the beautiful panoramic scene is constantly changing. "Waterside" is located in Ravenglass, a beautiful, peaceful an ideal place to stay if you want to relax and unwind. But, there's also lots of places to visit and explore too in the area. We had a delightful holiday which was enhanced by staying in "Waterside" of which we highly recommend.

What a delightful place.
We would go back any time. You can if you wish spend the whole week watching the tide go in and out, creeping up on the wall of the house. You can spend all your time looking at the numerous birds following the tide. There are many walks from the property. The stove is wonderful to return to after time out in the cold, though in all honesty the heating in the property is totally adequate. A magical place.

Absolutely stunning holiday home in a pretty village.
The house is extremely well equipped and very clean and comfortable. The views across the estuary are breathtaking. The welcome gift was also much appreciated, thoughtful and kind. I highly recommend this holiday property for a relaxing break for all ages. I would probably take more provisions if I was going again as we didn't want to travel far for shops

Beautifully furnished and well-equipped. Located in an out-of-the-way place but gives you access to coast and southern Lakes. The ‘Ratty’ recommended for an easy trip into the hills, and Muncaster Castle- brilliant.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage.
The view and surroundings are great and the house is comfortable. The owners are very helpful. We made the trip by public transport and this worked out perfectly well. We made trips by train to St Bees and Eskdale and by bus to Wasdale. Tesco delivered groceries at our doorstep.

Lovely, well appointed cottage in a great location.
The owners made us feel like nothing was too much trouble, even offering fans during the hot weather Ravenglass is a small village but there are three eateries within 200 yds of the cottage offering good food. Fantastic holiday, stunning views. Definitely recommend. We hope to return one day.

Waterside is a gem.
A beautifully renovated, tastefully decorated home in a spectacular setting. The house is well equipped, and the owners were friendly and easy to deal with. I have already recommended this property to friends. It’s a great place to get away from it all, and wind down.

The wow factor when we walked into the cottage was well deserved.
The cottage cleanliness was exceptional and there were clear instructions for use of appliances, with the wood fire already made up for use - bonus! Lots of walking and cycling guides to choose from and the view of the estuary which was ever changing was wonderful day and night during sunshine and rain. The cottage was well situated for cycling, walking and ease of visiting other attractions. When I contacted the owners they were very quick to reply and answered all questions. A wonderful stay.

We loved our stay at Waterside, from the moment we arrived everything was thought of.
From the beauty of the property to the wonderful views of the estuary and the surrounding countryside, we can't wait to stay again. The house was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The only thing we couldn't find was the washing machine, but we're sure it's there somewhere! The binder with local info was so useful and really thoughtful, it made our stay a lot easier and enabled us to experience as much of Ravenglass and beyond as possible. We miss watching the amazing sunsets, tides and birds from the living room windows. We shall definitely re-book again for next year. Stunning!

What an amazing property in such a stunning village!
We were absolutely delighted by everything to do with Waterside during our stay - the views from the picture windows were incredible in sunny or rainy conditions, the property was immaculately clean, and we were astounded by attention to detail. All the beds were incredibly comfortable, and we could sit on the sofas looking out of the windows all day. The kitchen had every utensil and piece of crockery that you could need, and the owners had thought of everything from dishwasher tablets to locally sourced soaps at each sink. Waterside exceeded our expectations and we fell completely in love with the property and the village of Ravenglass, so much so that our children cried when we had to leave! Thank you, Sarah and John - your communication was fantastic throughout our entire stay, and your efforts enabled us to create such beautiful memories. We will absolutely be back!

A wonderful cottage, a well equipped kitchen, high quality fixtures and fittings and the view of the estuary is breathtaking,especially at sunset.
The owners have renovated it to a very high standard and provided everything that you would need for a relaxing break. The village is lovely with 2 places to eat and lots of great walks from the doorstep. We have stayed in lots of cottages and we would definitely put Waterside at the top of the list.

Waterside is a lovely cottage.
It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard but still retains a cosy feel. The views over the estuary are beautiful especially at sunset. Ideally situated for access to the coast and West lakes.

We enjoyed a fabulous week in Waterside cottage, the weather was kind to us and we enjoyed the hospitality of the Ratty Arms.
There is also a good restaurant opposite the cottage and the Bryer Cafe is excellent. Ravenglass is a jewel of a town/village in Cumbria with walks straight from the door. The views from the windows are memorable, especially first and last light. The cottage has good heating complimented by a fabulous logburner for those cosy nights in. I have only awarded Waterside cottage four stars as there is room for improvement eg:- I would change the latch on the door of the master bedroom as it's very noisy, this easily wakes up a light sleeper. I would change the toilets as I didn't like how they flushed, the toilet bowl fills up with water displaying it's contents before emptying. If a safety fence was fitted to the roof of the downstairs bedroom it would make an excellent sun terrace. Minor points I know but as the cottage commands a premium price I feel it just falls short of five stars. ****Having said all that, we would not hesitate in booking it again.**** We have been visiting the Lakes twice a year for more than twenty years and have only returned to one property (Seaside cottage at Coulderton), so Waterside cottage is on a short list of just two cottages that we would book again. Thank you Sarah and John for providing such a delightful holiday cottage in a superb location, it was clean, quiet and very comfortable. Mike & Marion

Lovely very clean property.
Very comfortable. The only negative I would give this property is the heating was inadequate. Underfloor heating not good enough for the time of year we went. Very cold in the morning and being open plan hard to get warm unless the wood burner was lite.

We do say to guests that we live nearby and if they do have any issues to let us know and we would be happy to help and try to sort things out. The holiday cottage was perfect, in a fantastic spot with great views, very clean and well maintained.
My only complaint would be the checking in and checking out times, for me 4pm is a little late and 10am is too early. We did enjoy the stay though and would recommend others to use the cottage.

Waterside is nothing short of perfect!
Everything is of the highest quality to make the stay comfortable. The views are amazing and the local people are very friendly too especially at the Ratty Arms and train station. We had a wonderful weeks stay here and experienced a wide range of weather and changing light, all stunning to watch from the living room with the fire blazing.
It's a really homely place to stay with lots of thoughtful touches. Very quiet and sleepy village - we live in the city and really wanted to be away from everything so was perfect. There are some local walks from the house or many more a short drive away. The hosts Sarah & John live locally and were very quick to help with any queries/issues. All in all, a lovely relaxed week away!
