Moss Crag is a delightful Lakeland house situated near Ullswater in the Lake District National Park, offering guests a relaxed and well-equipped Lakeland home, ideal for family and group getaways. Tucked into the centre of Glenridding, with peaceful views over the river and rooftops of
the village, Moss Crag is a bright and welcoming Lakeland home, perfectly placed for exploring the Ullswater valley and Helvellyn range. With seven bedrooms set over three floors, a sociable dining space, two lounge areas and thoughtful touches throughout, it’s a fantastic choice for families or friends looking to enjoy time together in one of the most beautiful corners of the Lake District. Inside, the house is bright and simple in style, with a focus on comfort and practicality. The kitchen is compact but modern and well equipped, making it easy to whip up everything from quick breakfasts to relaxed evening meals. A spacious utility room sits just off the kitchen, with a washer/dryer, sink, and dedicated drying area, perfect for muddy boots and wet coats after a day on the fells or by the lake. The dining room seats fourteen around a large table, making it a great place to gather, eat, chat, and plan your next adventure. After dinner, you can unwind in the sitting room with its TV and log burner, or head into the second lounge, which offers a selection of board games and books, ideal for rainy days or quieter moments. Bedrooms are spread out across several floors to offer flexibility and comfort for everyone in your group: On the first floor, there’s a super king-size bedroom with an en-suite (walk-in shower, basin and WC), a king bedroom also with an en-suite, and one bedroom with a large bunk bed sleeping 2 people, perfect for adults sharing or children who want a room of their own. On this floor, there is also the family bathroom, which includes a bath, basin, and WC. On the second floor, you’ll find another king-size bedroom and a double bedroom both with an en-suite (walk-in shower, basin and WC) and another bedroom with a large bunk bed sleeping 2 people. At the back of the house on a separate landing, another super king bedroom can be found on the first floor, with a downstairs bathroom. Outside, the house has a small, natural garden with steps leading up to a raised area, an ideal spot for a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Enjoy glimpses of the surrounding hills from the house, especially from the upper floors, where you can look out over the river and rooftops of Glenridding. You’re only a 2-minute walk from The Ramblers Bar, a friendly local serving homecooked pub classics and a great selection of drinks. For something a little more special, The Inn on the Lake is just a short walk away too, offering everything from casual lunches to more formal dining with lake views. Don't fancy cooking breakfast? The Inn on the Lake are happy to welcome you for morning coffees, pastries or a full English. Step outside and you’re at the foot of some of the Lake District’s most iconic landscapes. Whether you’re setting off on the route to Striding Edge and Helvellyn, heading for a waterside walk along Ullswater, or visiting the nearby Aira Force waterfall, adventure is never far away. There are also plenty of water sports available on Ullswater, along with lake cruises, local shops, and cafés to explore. With a homely feel, flexible layout and unbeatable location, Moss Crag is a wonderful base for making memories with the people you love.

We loved our stay at Moss Crag.
It was in a perfect location and had plenty of space for a family of three generations. The rooms were quiet and it was great having so many bathrooms and such a well equipped kitchen. We walked and swam and paddle boarded and took a trip on the Steamer. All in all we loved it. The only improvement would be a curtain in the front room so when the automatic lights come on in the corridor it isn’t so distracting.
We were a multigenerational family visiting Glenridding and Patterdale- a place of many happy childhood holidays - and MossCrag was perfect for us.
The location was fantastic - a few doors down from ice cream and provisions but still nice and peaceful. Come out of the front door and turn left for the fells and right for the lake. The rooms were comfortable and well furnished. Most with en suites. There is a big dining table (fitted our 11) and the two lounges enabled us to have one area for the kids and one that was the ‘quiet room’. The kitchen is small but has everything you need and there is a big utility (perfect for boots and dry paddle boards etc) with washer and dryer and an airing cupboard for drying damp things. The front patio is nice for a cold drink when you arrive back from your adventures and for stargazing at night. We loved it and would be back in a flash.
Overall the property was decent and clean, satisfied our needs (we were a large party of 11) and was largely as advertised.
It was a special family gathering and we enjoyed our time at the house. The location in the village is fantastic. Some downsides were a lack of any kind of welcome pack and core items. When staying at high quality holiday homes I have frequently found a welcome pack with milk, a few teabags or coffee, at times even cake or biscuits to help get started. Tea towels, a little washing up liquid, a couple of dishwasher tablets would have been welcome and often included elsewhere. The kitchen is very small for the size of house so planning with large numbers of people staying is needed. Finally the drive only accommodates two cars which is as described. However for such a large house you would expect visitors to come in more cars and it would have been good to have some sort of residents pass if possible. We came in four cars two of which we needed to pay for parking over the weekend.
