“Fairy Glen is in a great location and has loads of space.”

It was helpful having so many bathrooms too. However, many of the reviews before are correct that the property is in need of some TLC (especially when reflecting on price and similar properties). This didn’t impact our stay aside from the heating which is unworkable once on and the lounge becomes like an oven! The gaps in floorboards is odd especially in one of the en-suites where you inevitably drip water on the floor and therefore through the gaps. I get it that the property is old but ...

This didn’t impact our stay aside from the heating which is unworkable once on and the lounge becomes like an oven! The gaps in floorboards is odd especially in one of the en-suites where you inevitably drip water on the floor and therefore through the gaps. I get it that the property is old but some flooring would make more sense as noise anywhere in the house reverberates around. As the property is dog friendly, allowing guests to take the back door key out may make more sense as this means a dirty/wet dog can more easily come in this door and stay there until dry.

Walks from the door are too many to mention with both rambles and high level peaks accessible. Grasmere makes a splendid base for a holiday in any season and is always sought after being right in the heart of the lakes. Rowing boats are available on Grasmere Lake in season - beautiful for a picnic on a sunny day. Accommodation: The house is on three floors. Front door entrance with room for jackets and boots leads into the welcoming hallway with rooms to either side. The main sitting room to the left has plenty of comfy seating and an impressive wood burner to keep you cosy on the coldest nights (Flat screen TV and free wi-fi). Extra comfy seating makes this a very sociable space, perfect for family gathering, relaxed dining and socialising. The rear hallway beyond the kitchen has a separate utility room, store room and more hanging space. Back door to small rear yard. The first floor has four bedrooms, three doubles all have character brass bedsteads and stylish en-suite shower rooms whilst the twin has use of the family shower room on the split landing. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
